Photo Theme Based Circles4,903New Circle Based on Former Photo Exchange Club MembersBased on some recent comments to a May 2014 circle share by +Photo Exchange Club http://goo.gl/qagSvg I figured I would release this out into the wild. The name reflects all the effort +Malthus John put into making this circle a high point on G+Users like +Michael A Koontz, +David D previously expressed interest in getting this going but like many side efforts it never found the goal line.  If anyone would like to help and possibly become a co-manager of this page let me know.So below is the verbatim boilerplate rules previously used by the PEC.  I will not setup the contest or worry about tracking the largest ripple at this point.  Let's just see if there's renewed interest.-------------------If you're new to G+, or you just love beautiful photos, add this curated circle, and enjoy viewing their posts in your stream! These people exchange photos here, and are active on G+.  If you are a photographer of any level, you may qualify to be in the club.  You need at least 25% of your posts to be either your own photos, or credited work of others. (preferably G+ users!)This circle is shared every 2 weeks, and if you want to be in the next one, add a URL to a recent G+ photo from your stream  in the comments below.  Mingle through the comments, click on some links to other people's shots and get to know some new people with similar interests.   Please do not add more than 1 photo per week here!-------------------As a side note +Grant Stringer has a good thing going with +Exposure running these type circles with a corresponding contest so be sure to check that out! #circleshare #curatedcontent2015-04-22 16:05:22386471534

Dubie Bacino135,930Inspiring on Google+ Curated by +Dubie Bacino  (18th Edition)This is the circle I go to when I find myself in need of beauty and inspiration. It's made mainly of photographers, but also other people who I find post intriguing, provoking, and inspiring content. This is a very colorful group. One thing they have in common, besides me, is inspiring content that will enhance your Google+ experience. -----------------------------------------When it comes to #CircleSharing, my practice is to share only two of my circles every month:  - ENGAGERS: this is a way of saying thank you to those who have interacted with me in some way (either by plussing, commenting, and/or sharing my posts, or by participating in my communities), and- INSPIRING: mainly photographers, but also other people who I find post original and interesting content. To get into my circles is real simple: either engage with my posts, or keep sharing quality content. If you want me to notice you, be active in one or all of my communities (see below).-----------------------------------------To connect with me, the best place is my appearoo page: http://appearoo.com/opajdara or http://www.opajdara.com/ -----------------------------------------If you are on #TSU, connect with me: https://www.tsu.co/opajdara. Up in the sky
Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world and the biggest ruminant, reaching up to 5–6 m (16–20 ft) height and has an average weight of 1,600 kg (3,500 lb) for males and 830 kg (1,830 lb) for females. The giraffe has an extremely elongated neck, which can be up to 2 m long. There is the "competing browsers hypothesis" which was originally suggested by Charles Darwin and it suggests that competitive pressure from smaller browsers, such as kudu, steenbok and impala, encouraged the elongation of the neck, as it enabled giraffes to reach food that competitors could not. There is also research suggesting that browsing competition is intense at lower levels, and giraffes feed more efficiently (gaining more leaf biomass with each mouthful) high in the canopy.

Mother care
One bright summer morning we were on safari in Etosha National Park in northern Namibia, when suddenly a large herd of zebras blocked our way, so we stopped our vehicle. We looked closer, and what a wonderful surprise, there were a lot of lovely young foals and their mares in the herd.

Female zebras mature earlier than the males, and a mare may have her first foal by the age of three. Males are not able to breed until the age of five or six. Mares may give birth to one foal every twelve months. She nurses the foal for up to a year. Like horses, zebras are able to stand, walk and suckle shortly after they are born. A zebra foal is brown and white instead of black and white at birth.

Fennec fox
The fennec fox (Vulpes zerda) is a small nocturnal fox found in the Sahara of North Africa and Asia. The range is from Morocco through to Egypt, as far south as northern Niger and as far east as the Sinai Peninsula and Kuwait. Its most distinctive feature is its unusually large ears. The fennec is the smallest species of canid in the world. Its coat, ears, and kidney functions have adapted to high-temperature, low-water, desert environments.
The fennec fox weighs about 1.5–3.5 lb (0.68–1.59 kg), with a body length of between 24–41 cm (9–16 in); it is around 20.3 cm (8 in) tall. It is the smallest species of canid in the world. The tail has a black tip and is 18–31 cm (7–12 in) long, while the ears can be between 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) long. The coat is often a cream color and fluffy, which deflects heat during the day and keeps the fox warm at night. The fennec's characteristic ears are the largest among all foxes relative to body size, and serve to dissipate heat, as they have many blood vessels close to the skin. The ears of a fennec are sensitive enough to hear prey that may be underground, It mainly eats insects, small mammals, and birds.  The soles of its feet are protected from the hot desert sand by thick fur.

Anglewings
The Comma (Polygonia c-album) is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Nymphalidae. Its irregular wing edges are characteristic of the Polygonia genus, which is why they are commonly called anglewings. It is found in northern Africa and across Europe from Portugal through Asia as far as Japan.
Polygonia c-album has a wingspan of about 45 millimetres (1.8 in). Its dorsal wings are colourful but the underside is a dull brown colour, with a small white 'C' shaped marking resembling a comma (hence the common name). The wings have a distinctive ragged edge, apparently a cryptic form as the butterfly resembles a fallen leaf. These butterflies hibernate, so they could be seen all around the year, but the active flying period extends from April to November, depending on location.

On the prowl
Lionesses do the majority of the hunting for their pride, being smaller, swifter and more agile than the males, and unencumbered by the heavy and conspicuous mane, which causes overheating during exertion. They act as a co-ordinated group in order to stalk and bring down the prey successfully. However, if nearby the hunt, males have a tendency to dominate the kill once the lionesses have succeeded.

Snake charmers
Snake charming is the practice of pretending to hypnotise a snake by playing an instrument. The practice is most common in India, though other Asian nations such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia are also home to performers, as are the North African countries of Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. Many snake charmers live a wandering existence, visiting towns and villages on market days and during festivals, the charmer typically sits out of biting range, and his animal is sluggish and reluctant to attack anyway. More drastic means of protection include removing the creature’s fangs or venom glands, or even sewing the snake’s mouth shut. The most popular species are those native to the snake charmer’s home region, typically various kinds of cobras, though vipers and other types are also used.

Sunset in Meteora
The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα, “suspended rocks”, “suspended in the air” or “in the heavens above” – etymologically similar to “Meteorite”) is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. The nearest town is Kalambaka. The Metéora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Access to the monasteries was originally (and deliberately) difficult, requiring either long ladders lashed together or large nets used to haul up both goods and people. This required quite a leap of faith – the ropes were replaced, so the story goes, only “when the Lord let them break”.

Love bites?
The plains zebra is highly social and usually forms small family groups called harems, which consist of a single stallion, several mares, and their recent offspring. Groups of all male "bachelors" also exist. These are stable groups of 2-15 males with an age-based hierarchy lead by a young male. These males stay in their groups until they are ready to start a harem. The bachelors prepare for their adult roles with play fights and greeting/challenge rituals, which take up most of their activities. Multiple harems and bachelor groups come together to form herds.

Temple of Hephaestus in Athens
The Temple of Hephaestus, also known as the Hephaisteion or earlier as the Theseion, is the best-preserved ancient Greek temple and it remains standing largely as built. It is a Doric peripteral temple, and is located at the north-west side of the Agora of Athens. Hephaestus was the patron god of metal working and craftsmanship. There were numerous potters' workshops and metal-working shops in the vicinity of the temple, as befits the temple's honoree. The temple was officially inaugurated in 416-415 BC.

Fruits of Platanus orientalis in the morning light
Platanus orientalis, or oriental plane, is a large, deciduous tree of the Platanaceae family, growing to 30 m (98 ft) or more, and known for its longevity and spreading crown. The oriental plane is found naturally in riverine settings, together with such trees as alder, willow and poplar. However, it is quite capable of survival and success in dry soils once it is established. The tree is capable of being grown in most temperate latitudes, though it benefits greatly from warm summers. As a very large and wide tree with broad, thick leaves that tend to orient horizontally, it is especially prized for the shade and coolness it provides during the hot season.

Tibetan girl
We stayed for two nights in Zhangmu village near the Nepal-China (Tibet) borders having very bad weather. Then on the third day, we heard that the passages were open and we should try to go further to our journey to Tibet via Friendship Highway to the great city of Lhasa. So we gathered our gear and got on a 4WD with a chinese driver. After a few kilometers we discovered that the road was closed once again, like it was two days ago. We got out of the car to take some pictures in the snow, on an altitude over 3,000m / 9,850ft and then we turned all the way back to Nepal borders. Maybe next time...

At 2300 meters above sea level, Zhangmu has mild and humid subtropical climate, which is a rarity for Tibet. Chinese trucks travelling on the Friendship Highway offload goods at Zhangmu and transfer them to Nepalese trucks.
The Friendship Highway (also known as the China-Nepal Highway) is a 800 kilometres (500 mi) scenic route connecting the capital of Tibet Lhasa with the Chinese/Nepalese border at the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge between Zhangmu and Kodari. It crosses three passes with altitude over 5,000m before dropping to 1,750m at the border.

The lake is a paradise for bird watchers and nature photographers and presents thousands of birds (227 species), riverside forests, extended areas covered with water lilies and a great fish variety. Another unique feature are the buffalo herds in the surrounding area; furthermore, there are at least 10 amphibian species (frogs, salamanders, tritons), five snail species, 19 reptile species (lizards, snakes, turtles) and a great variety of insects, which play an important part in the food chain.

The church of the Hodegetria, or "Aphentikon" in Mystras
Brontochion Monastery (Greek: Βροντόχιον, Μονή Βροντοχίου) was the oldest, largest and richest monastery in Mystras, Greece. The abbot Pachomius incorporated into it the small church of the Hodegetria, or "Aphentikon", as the monastery's catholicon. The church was reconstructed and completed around 1310, with some scholars giving 1308-1312 as the construction dates and others 1310-1322.

Okavango Delta
- On a great sunny day we were in Maun, the main city in Okavango Delta Botswana and we wanted to have a “mokoro safari”. So we got on board on an aluminum motor-boat to take us to the place. After a few minutes we arrived to this meeting point here, where everybody was switching boats and getting in wooden mokoros to start the safari.

It is formed where the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari Desert, where it creates a vast seasonal swamp and one of the most important wet lands on earth. Its north part, the one that looks to land, is covered by a heavily fortified acropolis. A stone-paved stretch leads over a small bridge to the small fortified islet of Bourtzi. This is the place where many soldiers and inhabitants of Methoni were slaughtered, when the Turks occupied the fort in 1500.

Bhaktapur is listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal, pottery and stone artwork.

Sitting on the dock of the bay
Last summer, a late afternoon at Livadhi Gheranou beach in Patmos Island. Just a few minutes before sunset...
Patmos is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea. One of the northernmost islands of the Dodecanese complex, it has a population of 2,984 and an area of 34.05 km2 (13.15 sq mi). Livadhi Gheranou is a lovely beach with calm environment. Although it is not organized, it gets pretty popular in summer. It is one of the most picturesque beaches in the island, this sandy and pebbled beach almost always has calm waters due to the shielding offered by its parallel island of Agios Giorgios (St. George) which was named after the small church built on it.

Lion, the king of the African carnivores, eats everything from tortoises to giraffes. When prey is plentiful, it spends 20 hours per day conserving energy, becoming active in early afternoon and late at night. Inspiring on Google+ Curated by +Dubie Bacino  (11th Edition)
This is the circle I go to when I find myself in need of beauty and inspiration. It's made mainly of photographers, but also other people who I find post intriguing, provoking, and inspiring content. When it comes to #CircleSharing, my practice is to share only two of my circles every month:

- ENGAGERS: this is a way of saying thank you to those who have interacted with me in some way (either by plussing, commenting, and/or sharing my posts, or by participating in my communities), and

- INSPIRING: mainly photographers, but also other people who I find post original and interesting content.

Moon over Astypalea
Astypalea is a Greek island with 1,238 residents. It belongs to the Dodecanese, an island group of twelve major islands in the southeastern Aegean Sea. The Island is 18 km. long, 13 km. wide at the most, and covers an area of 99 km2. The capital and the previous main harbour of the island is Astypalea or Hora, as it is called by the locals.
In Greek mythology, Astypalea was a woman abducted by Poseidon in the form of a winged fish-tailed leopard. The island was colonized by the Greek city-state of Megara, and the Roman emperors recognized it as a free state.
During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Byzantines until 1207, when – in the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade – it became a fee of the Querini, a noble Venetian family, until 1522. The island remained under Italian governance until WWII. In 1947, together with the whole Dodecanese, it joined Greece.

Erechtheum in Acropolis of Athens
The Erechtheum (Greek: Ἐρέχθειον Erechtheion), is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece. The temple as seen today was built between 421 and 406 BC. The sculptor and mason of the structure was Phidias, who was employed by Pericles to build both the Erechtheum and the Parthenon. On the south side, there is a large porch with columns, the famous "Porch of the Maidens", with six draped female figures (caryatids) as supporting columns, each sculpted in a manner different from the rest and engineered in such a way that their slenderest part, the neck, is capable of supporting the weight of the porch roof while remaining graceful and feminine.

Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery in Amorgos Island
The most famous monument on Amorgos Island is the monastery of Panagia Hosoviotissa embedded in the rock, 300 m above sea level, visible only from the sea. It was founded by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komninos in 1088. It was built in order to protect a religious icon, dating from the year 812, from intruders. The icon is on public display today inside the monastery. Visitors are stunned by the mystic ambience, the historical and architectural interest as well as the rare relics found here.

Reflections
-We found this family of langurs drinking water by a man made waterhole in the Ranthambore National Park in India. The heat was unbearable so they were very thirsty but also very careful while drinking. There was always at least one or two of them looking around for predators.

Common or Hanuman langur is a large primate which is venerated by Hindus as a god. It is known for its unique association in the forest with the cheetal (or spotted deer), each warning the other of the approach of predators, mostly tigers and leopards.

Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), being the fastest mammal on earth (it can develop an up to 110 km/hour speed limit), is by far the best hunter among the African big cats. Its successful attempts are mostly due to cheetah ’s approaching the prey hidden and certainly due to its unrivalled speed.

Founded in Namibia in 1990 by Dr. Laurie Marker, Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is the global leader in research and conservation of cheetahs. CCF is dedicated to saving the cheetah in the wild. Today it is an internationally recognized center of excellence in the conservation of cheetahs and their ecosystems. They develop best practices in research, education, and land use to benefit all species, including people.

The Parthenon in Acropolis of Athens
The Parthenon (Ancient Greek: Παρθενών) is a temple in the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their protector. Its construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece and its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. For many years there is a dispute around the Parthenon Marbles removed by the Earl of Elgin, which are in the British Museum. A few sculptures from the Parthenon are also in the Louvre in Paris, in Copenhagen, and elsewhere, but over fifty percent are in the New Acropolis Museum in Athens. A few can still be seen on the building itself. The Greek government has campaigned since 1983 for the British Museum to return the sculptures to Greece. The British Museum has steadfastly refused to return the sculptures, and successive British governments have been unwilling to force the Museum to do so.

Backlit Springbok
Springboks are between 70 – 87 centimetres tall at the shoulder, depending on the age, weight and gender of the particular antelope, they weigh between 26–40 kg for the females and 33–50 kg for the males. They inhabit the dry inland areas of south and southwestern Africa. Their range extends from the northwestern part of South Africa through the Kalahari desert into Namibia and Botswana. Springboks can meet their water needs from the food they eat, and survive without drinking water through dry season, or even over years. They may accomplish this by selecting flowers, seeds, and leaves of shrubs before dawn, when these foods are most succulent.

Great screen protectors for our cameras!

- A few days ago I had the pleasure to try out some new screen protectors for my DSLR's. A small company based in the UK called Expert Shield UK, sent me some samples in a very beautiful package. I wanted a screen protector especially for my Nikon D7100 which, unlike my other cameras, has no hard cover for the back LCD. The instructions on the package were very simple and clear so I had no problem with air bubbles, something you often get when you are using other products. The LCD screen looks exactly like it was before, but now is also very well protected. A wonderful product with the right price, I couldn't ask for more!

The evening gathering
- We found this big flock of Great White Pelicans in the north-east side of Lake Kerkini near the Strymonas river Delta. These birds are usually found in and around shallow, warm fresh water.

The Great White Pelican, Pelecanus onocrotalus also known as the Eastern White Pelican or White Pelican is a bird in the pelican family. It breeds from southeastern Europe through Asia and in Africa in swamps and shallow lakes. Great White Pelicans are large birds with mass of 10 kg (22 lbs), 160 cm (63 in) long and with a 280 cm (110 inch) wingspan. The Great White Pelican is well adapted for aquatic life. The short strong legs and webbed feet propel it in water and aid the rather awkward takeoff from the water surface.

- One cloudy afternoon we were walking in the middle of the market in the little town of Pisac, when all of a sudden this little guy came out of nowhere...

Písac is one of the villages on the Urubamba River. The village is well-known for its market every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, an event which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cusco.
The Urubamba Valley, also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, is located in the Andes close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient sacred city of Machu Picchu. It contains numerous archaeological remains as well as villages of indigenous people.

Aaargh!!!
Brown bears are mostly solitary, although when they gather in numbers (like here in a zoo) form social hierarchies based on age and size. Adult male bears are particularly aggressive and are avoided by adolescent and subadult males. Female bears with cubs rival adult males in aggression, and are more intolerant of other bears than single females. Young adolescent males tend to be least aggressive, and have been observed in non antagonistic interactions with each other. During combat, bears use their paws to strike their opponents in the chest or shoulders and bite the head or neck.

Spingtime at Lake Kerkini
Lake Kerkini (Greek: Λίμνη Κερκίνη), in Greece, is an artificial reservoir that was created in 1932, and then redeveloped in 1980, on the site of what was previously an extremely extensive marshland. Lake Kerkini is one of, if not the, premier birding site in Greece, as it is situated along the migratory flyway for birds en route to the Aegean Sea, the Balkan region, the Black Sea and beyond. The area surrounding Lake Kerkini has been declared a National Nature Reserve and is protected by the International RAMSAR Convention. The lake is a paradise for bird watchers and nature photographers and presents thousands of birds (227 species), riverside forests, extended areas covered with water lilies and a great fish variety.

Walking in the streets of Essaouira
Essaouira is a city in the western Moroccan economic region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, on the Atlantic coast. Since the 16th century, the city has also been known by its Portuguese name of Mogador or Mogadore. The Berber name means the wall, a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city. From the time of its rebuilding in the 18th century by Muhammad III until the end of the nineteenth century, Essaouira served as Morocco's principal port, offering the goods of the caravan trade to the world. The route brought goods from sub-Saharan Africa to Timbuktu, then through the desert and over the Atlas mountains to Marrakech. The road from Marrakech to Essaouira is a straight line, explaining the King's choice of this port among the many that the Moroccan coast offers.

The National Library of Greece (Greek: Εθνική Βιβλιοθήκη) was designed in 1888 by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen and its construction supervised by Ernst Ziller, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings, one of the major landmarks of Athens, including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University. The new wonderful photographers' circle from +Peter From

The NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle | APRIL 2014 | READ THE WHOLE POST BEFORE ASKING FOR INCLUSION

The first PAC (March 2014) was a great success and I want to thank everybody who participated in it! Like my old APC Circles, this new April PAC is full of great photographers! I have checked EVERY SINGLE ONE of them and guarantee that your feed will flood from quality images when you add this circle.

How To Qualify To Future PAC Circles

If you're a professional or an amateur photographer mainly sharing your own original work in your feed, then you're eligible to ask for inclusion in the May PAC.

The difference between this circle and the old APC is that I now will be giving away FREE accounts to the Pixativity Photographer's Directory every time I share this circle. I will pick three photographer's from the circle and add them to the directory while I compile the circle (you will be notified).

(For those of you not remembering the _APC, it's one of my most shared and popular circles since I started here on Google+ a couple of years ago. Many participants have received thousands of new followers and some of the people I helped promote in the APC now boast more followers than I do! I love that! It speaks for the positiveness and quality of this circle. The PAC will be of the same high quality!_

The Guidelines

Yes, there are rules and guidelines. :) If you want to participate in the PAC you need to do the following:

1) Plus and comment this post to show that you want to participate (you must do that here on the original post). Please state what kind of photography you're into in your comment. You also may tag friends of yours to help promote them as well. I'll add them too if they meet these guidelines. Tagging friends increases your chances of being added.

2) Reshare this post to help promote your fellow G-plussers. That way YOU will receive more attention once the circle is released. If you do not reshare, I probably won't add you to the circle since this is a joint effort to promote good photographers. YOU deserve to be reshared, right? So does your fellow G-plussers.

The post must be reshared in your personal feed and publicly.

Pages will NOT be accepted into the circle.

3) Please do NOT add external or internal links to albums, websites, blogs etc. in the comments. This post is neither the right place for advertisement nor for spam. Thanks.I will check your feed anyway, be sure of that. :)

4) Premium Members of the Pixativity Photographer's Directory website are automatically included in the circle. Still members should reshare this post and  let me know that you did so in the comments.

(How to obtain a Premium account to the PPD can be found here: http://maps.pixativity.com/join/).

Please Note

If I do NOT add you to the circle there's always a reason for that. 1) You do not mainly share your own original work in your feed, 2) You are a web marketeer, SEO-specialist etc. or 3) I did not like the mix of your feed (yeah, I know, it's a very subjective thing to create circles like this) or 4) I just missed your comment of some reason – mistakes happen, I am only human.

Another thing: I cannot add everybody in one circle but be assured that I check ALL feeds and you are welcome to ask for inclusion in the next edition of the PAC.

Release Date

The next circle will be released in May. Keep an eye open for the up-coming Announcement Post.

Now, let's make this April PAC another success story. :) Add the circle and reshare it.

Cheers!___The new wonderful photographers' circle from +Peter From

The good, the bad and the ugly
A full grown wildebeest can be 4 ft 2 in (1.27 m) to 4 ft 10 in (1.47 m) at the shoulder and weigh 265–600 lb (120–270 kg). They inhabit the plains and open woodlands of Africa, especially the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tanzania, Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya and Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia. Wildebeest can live more than 40 years, though their average lifespan is around 20 years. The wildebeest have a broad muzzle shaped like a lawnmower which helps it with eating short grass.

Big Ben
Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower, officially named Elizabeth Tower. The tower was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009.
The Elizabeth Tower (previously called the Clock Tower) named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year – was raised as a part of Charles Barry's design for a new palace, after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by fire on the night of 16 October 1834. The new Parliament was built in a Neo-gothic style.

Himba woman
The Himba people are an ethnic group of about 20,000 to 50,000 people living in northern Namibia, in the Kaokoland region. They are a nomadic, pastoral people and they breed cattle and goats. They wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat and ochre, possibly to protect themselves from the sun. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. This symbolizes earth’s rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty.
