Gailen Mapes69,130Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera A-C - 14 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to October 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting September 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles #pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcircles             Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +2014-10-14 10:53:56206001

The details of Arthur's story are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention, and his historical existence is debated and disputed by modern historians.[2] The sparse historical background of Arthur is gleaned from various sources, including the Annales Cambriae, the Historia Brittonum, and the writings of Gildas. Arthur's name also occurs in early poetic sources such as Y Gododdin.[3]Arthur is a central figure in the legends making up the so-called Matter of Britain. The legendary Arthur developed as a figure of international interest largely through the popularity of Geoffrey of Monmouth's fanciful and imaginative 12th-century Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain).[4] In some Welsh and Breton tales and poems that date from before this work, Arthur appears either as a great warrior defending Britain from human and supernatural enemies or as a magical figure of folklore, sometimes associated with the Welsh Otherworld, Annwn.[5] How much of Geoffrey's Historia (completed in 1138) was adapted from such earlier sources, rather than invented by Geoffrey himself, is unknown.Although the themes, events and characters of the Arthurian legend varied widely from text to text, and there is no one canonical version, Geoffrey's version of events often served as the starting point for later stories. Geoffrey depicted Arthur as a king of Britain who defeated the Saxons and established an empire over Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Gaul. Many elements and incidents that are now an integral part of the Arthurian story appear in Geoffrey's Historia, including Arthur's father Uther Pendragon, the wizard Merlin, Arthur's wife Guinevere, the sword Excalibur, Arthur's conception at Tintagel, his final battle against Mordred at Camlann and final rest in Avalon. The 12th-century French writerChrétien de Troyes, who added Lancelot and the Holy Grail to the story, began the genre of Arthurian romance that became a significant strand of medieval literature. In these French stories, the narrative focus often shifts from King Arthur himself to other characters, such as various Knights of the Round Table. Arthurian literature thrived during the Middle Ages but waned in the centuries that followed until it experienced a major resurgence in the 19th century. In the 21st century, the legend lives o2014-10-08 16:43:27500937688

Gailen Mapes67,830Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera A-C - 14 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to September 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting August 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles #pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcircles             Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +2014-09-14 10:21:35204029

I am watching you!
- During a very hot Indian summer day, this female tiger was in a pond with another female same age (probably sisters) having a bath, the temperature was about 42-44 degrees Celsius. All this was happening just 5-6 meters away from the open jeep on which I was standing up shooting with a 80-400 mm lens at 370 mm. This is not a cropped image.

The Bengal tiger is the most numerous tiger subspecies. Its populations have been estimated at 1,706–1,909 in India, 440 in Bangladesh, 163–253 in Nepal and 67–81 in Bhutan. Since 2010, it has been classified as an endangered species by the IUCN. The total population is estimated at fewer than 2,500 individuals with a decreasing trend.

Just like a pussycat
The mane of the adult male lion, unique among cats, is one of the most distinctive characteristics of the species. It makes the lion appear larger, providing an excellent intimidation display; this aids the lion during confrontations with other lions and with the species’ chief competitor in Africa, the spotted hyena. The presence, absence, color, and size of the mane is associated with genetic precondition, sexual maturity, climate, and testosterone production; the rule of thumb is the darker and fuller the mane, the healthier the lion. Sexual selection of mates by lionesses favors males with the densest, darkest mane.

The lion is a very vulnerable species, having seen a major population decline in its African range of 30–50% per two decades during the second half of the 20th century.

These little children were playing in the streets of Bhaktapur, and they wanted so much be photographed. So I shot a few frames and show them at the back of my camera. They were so happy...

Bhaktapur is an ancient Newar town and the third largest city in Kathmandu valley. Once it was the capital of Nepal during the great Malla Kingdom until the second half of the 15th century. Sitting on the dock of the bay
Last summer, a late afternoon at Livadhi Gheranou beach in Patmos Island. Just a few minutes before sunset...
Patmos is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea. One of the northernmost islands of the Dodecanese complex, it has a population of 2,984 and an area of 34.05 km2 (13.15 sq mi). Livadhi Gheranou is a lovely beach with calm environment. Although it is not organized, it gets pretty popular in summer. It is one of the most picturesque beaches in the island, this sandy and pebbled beach almost always has calm waters due to the shielding offered by its parallel island of Agios Giorgios (St. George) which was named after the small church built on it.

Prowling
Lion, the king of the African carnivores, eats everything from tortoises to giraffes. When prey is plentiful, it spends 20 hours per day conserving energy, becoming active in early afternoon and late at night. This is the circle I go to when I find myself in need of beauty and inspiration. It's made mainly of photographers, but also other people who I find post intriguing, provoking, and inspiring content. This is a very colorful group. One thing they have in common, besides me, is engaging content that will enhance your Google+ experience.
-----------------------------------------

When it comes to #CircleSharing, my practice is to share only two of my circles every month:

- ENGAGERS: this is a way of saying thank you to those who have interacted with me in some way (either by plussing, commenting, and/or sharing my posts, or by participating in my communities), and

- INSPIRING: mainly photographers, but also other people who I find post original and interesting content.

To get into my circles is real simple: either engage with my posts, or keep sharing quality content. If you want me to notice you, be active in one or all of my communities (see below).

To connect with me -@Opajdara, the best place is my xeeme page: http://xeeme.com/opajdara or http://www.opajdara.com/

Moon over Astypalea
Astypalea is a Greek island with 1,238 residents. It belongs to the Dodecanese, an island group of twelve major islands in the southeastern Aegean Sea. The Island is 18 km. long, 13 km. wide at the most, and covers an area of 99 km2. The capital and the previous main harbour of the island is Astypalea or Hora, as it is called by the locals.
In Greek mythology, Astypalea was a woman abducted by Poseidon in the form of a winged fish-tailed leopard. The island was colonized by the Greek city-state of Megara, and the Roman emperors recognized it as a free state.
During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Byzantines until 1207, when – in the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade – it became a fee of the Querini, a noble Venetian family, until 1522. The island remained under Italian governance until WWII. In 1947, together with the whole Dodecanese, it joined Greece.

Erechtheum in Acropolis of Athens
The Erechtheum (Greek: Ἐρέχθειον Erechtheion), is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece. The temple as seen today was built between 421 and 406 BC. The sculptor and mason of the structure was Phidias, who was employed by Pericles to build both the Erechtheum and the Parthenon. On the south side, there is a large porch with columns, the famous "Porch of the Maidens", with six draped female figures (caryatids) as supporting columns, each sculpted in a manner different from the rest and engineered in such a way that their slenderest part, the neck, is capable of supporting the weight of the porch roof while remaining graceful and feminine.

Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery in Amorgos Island
The most famous monument on Amorgos Island is the monastery of Panagia Hosoviotissa embedded in the rock, 300 m above sea level, visible only from the sea. It was founded by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komninos in 1088. It was built in order to protect a religious icon, dating from the year 812, from intruders. The icon is on public display today inside the monastery. Visitors are stunned by the mystic ambience, the historical and architectural interest as well as the rare relics found here.

Reflections
-We found this family of langurs drinking water by a man made waterhole in the Ranthambore National Park in India. The heat was unbearable so they were very thirsty but also very careful while drinking. There was always at least one or two of them looking around for predators.

Common or Hanuman langur is a large primate which is venerated by Hindus as a god. It is known for its unique association in the forest with the cheetal (or spotted deer), each warning the other of the approach of predators, mostly tigers and leopards.

Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), being the fastest mammal on earth (it can develop an up to 110 km/hour speed limit), is by far the best hunter among the African big cats. Its successful attempts are mostly due to cheetah ’s approaching the prey hidden and certainly due to its unrivalled speed.

Founded in Namibia in 1990 by Dr. Laurie Marker, Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is the global leader in research and conservation of cheetahs. CCF is dedicated to saving the cheetah in the wild. Today it is an internationally recognized center of excellence in the conservation of cheetahs and their ecosystems. The Parthenon in Acropolis of Athens
The Parthenon (Ancient Greek: Παρθενών) is a temple in the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their protector. Its construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece and its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments.
The Elgin Marbles are life-size pediment sculptures from the Parthenon which now are in the British Museum. For many years there is a dispute around the Parthenon Marbles removed by the Earl of Elgin, which are in the British Museum. A few sculptures from the Parthenon are also in the Louvre in Paris, in Copenhagen, and elsewhere, but over fifty percent are in the New Acropolis Museum in Athens. A few can still be seen on the building itself. The Greek government has campaigned since 1983 for the British Museum to return the sculptures to Greece. The British Museum has steadfastly refused to return the sculptures, and successive British governments have been unwilling to force the Museum to do so.

Backlit Springbok
Springboks are between 70 – 87 centimetres tall at the shoulder, depending on the age, weight and gender of the particular antelope, they weigh between 26–40 kg for the females and 33–50 kg for the males. They inhabit the dry inland areas of south and southwestern Africa. Their range extends from the northwestern part of South Africa through the Kalahari desert into Namibia and Botswana. Springboks can meet their water needs from the food they eat, and survive without drinking water through dry season, or even over years. They may accomplish this by selecting flowers, seeds, and leaves of shrubs before dawn, when these foods are most succulent.

Great screen protectors for our cameras!

- A few days ago I had the pleasure to try out some new screen protectors for my DSLR's. A small company based in the UK called Expert Shield UK, sent me some samples in a very beautiful package. I wanted a screen protector especially for my Nikon D7100 which, unlike my other cameras, has no hard cover for the back LCD. The instructions on the package were very simple and clear so I had no problem with air bubbles, something you often get when you are using other products. The LCD screen looks exactly like it was before, but now is also very well protected. A wonderful product with the right price, I couldn't ask for more!

The evening gathering
- We found this big flock of Great White Pelicans in the north-east side of Lake Kerkini near the Strymonas river Delta. These birds are usually found in and around shallow, warm fresh water.

The Great White Pelican, Pelecanus onocrotalus also known as the Eastern White Pelican or White Pelican is a bird in the pelican family. It breeds from southeastern Europe through Asia and in Africa in swamps and shallow lakes. Great White Pelicans are large birds with mass of 10 kg (22 lbs), 160 cm (63 in) long and with a 280 cm (110 inch) wingspan. The Great White Pelican is well adapted for aquatic life. The short strong legs and webbed feet propel it in water and aid the rather awkward takeoff from the water surface.

- One cloudy afternoon we were walking in the middle of the market in the little town of Pisac, when all of a sudden this little guy came out of nowhere...

Písac is one of the villages on the Urubamba River. The village is well-known for its market every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, an event which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cusco.
The Urubamba Valley, also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, is located in the Andes close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient sacred city of Machu Picchu. It contains numerous archaeological remains as well as villages of indigenous people.

Aaargh!!!
Brown bears are mostly solitary, although when they gather in numbers (like here in a zoo) form social hierarchies based on age and size. Adult male bears are particularly aggressive and are avoided by adolescent and subadult males. Female bears with cubs rival adult males in aggression, and are more intolerant of other bears than single females. Young adolescent males tend to be least aggressive, and have been observed in non antagonistic interactions with each other. During combat, bears use their paws to strike their opponents in the chest or shoulders and bite the head or neck.

Spingtime at Lake Kerkini
Lake Kerkini (Greek: Λίμνη Κερκίνη), in Greece, is an artificial reservoir that was created in 1932, and then redeveloped in 1980, on the site of what was previously an extremely extensive marshland. Lake Kerkini is one of, if not the, premier birding site in Greece, as it is situated along the migratory flyway for birds en route to the Aegean Sea, the Balkan region, the Black Sea and beyond. The area surrounding Lake Kerkini has been declared a National Nature Reserve and is protected by the International RAMSAR Convention. The lake is a paradise for bird watchers and nature photographers and presents thousands of birds (227 species), riverside forests, extended areas covered with water lilies and a great fish variety.

Walking in the streets of Essaouira
Essaouira is a city in the western Moroccan economic region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, on the Atlantic coast. Since the 16th century, the city has also been known by its Portuguese name of Mogador or Mogadore. The Berber name means the wall, a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city. From the time of its rebuilding in the 18th century by Muhammad III until the end of the nineteenth century, Essaouira served as Morocco's principal port, offering the goods of the caravan trade to the world. The route brought goods from sub-Saharan Africa to Timbuktu, then through the desert and over the Atlas mountains to Marrakech. The road from Marrakech to Essaouira is a straight line, explaining the King's choice of this port among the many that the Moroccan coast offers.

Up in the sky
Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world and the biggest ruminant, reaching up to 5–6 m (16–20 ft) height and has an average weight of 1,600 kg (3,500 lb) for males and 830 kg (1,830 lb) for females. The giraffe has an extremely elongated neck, which can be up to 2 m long. There is the "competing browsers hypothesis" which was originally suggested by Charles Darwin and it suggests that competitive pressure from smaller browsers, such as kudu, steenbok and impala, encouraged the elongation of the neck, as it enabled giraffes to reach food that competitors could not. There is also research suggesting that browsing competition is intense at lower levels, and giraffes feed more efficiently (gaining more leaf biomass with each mouthful) high in the canopy.

National Library of Greece
The National Library of Greece (Greek: Εθνική Βιβλιοθήκη) was designed in 1888 by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen and its construction supervised by Ernst Ziller, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings, one of the major landmarks of Athens, including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University. The National Library of Greece was founded by Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of state of independent Greece (1827–33) and the founder of the modern Greek State.

The new wonderful photographers' circle from +Peter From

The NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle | APRIL 2014 | READ THE WHOLE POST BEFORE ASKING FOR INCLUSION

The first PAC (March 2014) was a great success and I want to thank everybody who participated in it! Like my old APC Circles, this new April PAC is full of great photographers! I have checked EVERY SINGLE ONE of them and guarantee that your feed will flood from quality images when you add this circle.

How To Qualify To Future PAC Circles

If you're a professional or an amateur photographer mainly sharing your own original work in your feed, then you're eligible to ask for inclusion in the May PAC.

The difference between this circle and the old APC is that I now will be giving away FREE accounts to the Pixativity Photographer's Directory every time I share this circle. I will pick three photographer's from the circle and add them to the directory while I compile the circle (you will be notified).

(For those of you not remembering the _APC, it's one of my most shared and popular circles since I started here on Google+ a couple of years ago. Many participants have received thousands of new followers and some of the people I helped promote in the APC now boast more followers than I do! I love that! It speaks for the positiveness and quality of this circle. The PAC will be of the same high quality!_

The Guidelines

Yes, there are rules and guidelines. :) If you want to participate in the PAC you need to do the following:

1) Plus and comment this post to show that you want to participate (you must do that here on the original post). Please state what kind of photography you're into in your comment. You also may tag friends of yours to help promote them as well. I'll add them too if they meet these guidelines. Tagging friends increases your chances of being added.

2) Reshare this post to help promote your fellow G-plussers. That way YOU will receive more attention once the circle is released. If you do not reshare, I probably won't add you to the circle since this is a joint effort to promote good photographers. YOU deserve to be reshared, right? So does your fellow G-plussers.

The post must be reshared in your personal feed and publicly.

Pages will NOT be accepted into the circle.

3) Please do NOT add external or internal links to albums, websites, blogs etc. in the comments. This post is neither the right place for advertisement nor for spam. Thanks.I will check your feed anyway, be sure of that. :)

4) Premium Members of the Pixativity Photographer's Directory website are automatically included in the circle. Still members should reshare this post and  let me know that you did so in the comments.

(How to obtain a Premium account to the PPD can be found here: http://maps.pixativity.com/join/).

Please Note

If I do NOT add you to the circle there's always a reason for that. 1) You do not mainly share your own original work in your feed, 2) You are a web marketeer, SEO-specialist etc. or 3) I did not like the mix of your feed (yeah, I know, it's a very subjective thing to create circles like this) or 4) I just missed your comment of some reason – mistakes happen, I am only human.

Another thing: I cannot add everybody in one circle but be assured that I check ALL feeds and you are welcome to ask for inclusion in the next edition of the PAC.

Release Date

The next circle will be released in May. Keep an eye open for the up-coming Announcement Post.

Now, let's make this April PAC another success story. :) Add the circle and reshare it.

Cheers!___The new wonderful photographers' circle from +Peter From

Mother care
One bright summer morning we were on safari in Etosha National Park in northern Namibia, when suddenly a large herd of zebras blocked our way, so we stopped our vehicle. We looked closer, and what a wonderful surprise, there were a lot of lovely young foals and their mares in the herd.

Female zebras mature earlier than the males, and a mare may have her first foal by the age of three. Males are not able to breed until the age of five or six. Mares may give birth to one foal every twelve months. She nurses the foal for up to a year. Like horses, zebras are able to stand, walk and suckle shortly after they are born. A zebra foal is brown and white instead of black and white at birth.

The good, the bad and the ugly
A full grown wildebeest can be 4 ft 2 in (1.27 m) to 4 ft 10 in (1.47 m) at the shoulder and weigh 265–600 lb (120–270 kg). They inhabit the plains and open woodlands of Africa, especially the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tanzania, Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya and Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia. Wildebeest can live more than 40 years, though their average lifespan is around 20 years. The wildebeest have a broad muzzle shaped like a lawnmower which helps it with eating short grass.

Big Ben
Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower, officially named Elizabeth Tower. The tower was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009.
The Elizabeth Tower (previously called the Clock Tower) named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year – was raised as a part of Charles Barry's design for a new palace, after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by fire on the night of 16 October 1834. The new Parliament was built in a Neo-gothic style.

Himba woman
The Himba people are an ethnic group of about 20,000 to 50,000 people living in northern Namibia, in the Kaokoland region. They are a nomadic, pastoral people and they breed cattle and goats. They wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat and ochre, possibly to protect themselves from the sun. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. This symbolizes earth’s rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty.

Life in the desert
Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes as far as the eye can see, reputed to be the highest in the world, located in the southern part of the Namib Desert, in the Namib-Naukluft National Park of Namibia
The area is characterized by high sand dunes of vivid pink-to-orange colour, a consequence of a high percentage of iron in the sand and consequent oxidation processes. The oldest dunes are those of a more intense reddish colour. These dunes are among the highest in the world; many of them are above 200 metres, the highest being the one nicknamed Big Daddy, about 380 metres high.

Early morning frost
Zagoria (or Zagorochoria or Zagorohoria), is a region and a municipality in the Pindus mountains in Epirus, in northwestern Greece. It is an area of great natural beauty, with striking geology and two national parks, one including the river Aoos and the Vikos Gorge, the other around Valia Kalda, to the east of the imposing snow-capped Mt Tymphe. The 45 or so villages of Zagori were interconnected by mountain roads and traditional arched stone bridges until modern roads were opened in the 1950s. The stone arched bridges were built by benefactions from expatriate merchants in the 18th century and replaced older wooden bridges.

The NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle from +Peter From

Time to share The NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle

Now that we have launched the Pixativity Photographer's Directory, it's time to share the BRAND NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle. This, at the same time, means that I have decided to six feet the old APC. ALL old circles are no more and I have trashed them from my circles.

It was a delight to put this circle together and I have found lots of great photographers. You won't be disappointed. :)

How To Qualify

If you're a professional or an amateur photographer mainly sharing your own original work in your feed, then you're eligible to ask for inclusion in the new PAC.

The difference between this new circle and the old APC is that I now will be giving away FREE accounts to the Pixativity Photographer's Directory every time I share this circle. I will pick three photographer's from the circle and add them to the directory while I compile the circle (you will be notified). The three lucky ones have been notified. :)

The new PAC will be of the same high quality!_

2) Reshare this post to help promote your fellow G-plussers. That way YOU will receive more attention once the circle is released. If you do not reshare, I probably won't add you to the circle since this is a joint effort to promote good photographers. YOU deserve to be reshared, right? So do your fellow G-plussers.

The post must be reshared in your personal feed and publicly.

Pages will NOT be accepted into the circle.

3) Please do NOT add external or internal links to albums, websites, blogs etc. in the comments. This post is neither the right place for advertisement nor for spam. Thanks.

4) Premium Members of the Pixativity Photographer's Circle website are automatically included in the circle.

Please Note

If I do NOT add you to the circle there's always a reason for that. 1) You do not mainly share your own original images in your feed, 2) You are a web marketeer, SEO-specialist etc. or 3) I did not like the mix of your feed (yeah, I know, it's a very subjective thing to create circles like this) or 4) I just missed your comment of some reason – mistakes happen, I am only human.

Another thing: I cannot add everybody in one circle but be assured that I check ALL feeds and you are welcome to ask for inclusion in the next edition of the PAC.

Now, let's make the new PAC a success story. :) YOIU desrve it.

Cheers!___The NEW Pixativity Pro/Amateur Photographer's Circle from +Peter From

Switching boats
- On a great sunny day we were in Maun, the main city in Okavango Delta Botswana and we wanted to have a "mokoro safari". So we got on board on an aluminum motor-boat to take us to the place. After a few minutes we arrived to this meeting point here, where everybody was switching boats and getting in wooden mokoros to start the safari.

Mokoro safaris are a popular way for tourists to visit the delta, much of which is in national parks, but the boats are still a practical means of transport for residents to move around the swamp. The boats are very vulnerable to attack by hippopotamus, which can overturn them with ease. Hippopotamus are reputed to have developed this behaviour after the use of mokoros and other boats for hunting.

A mokoro is a type of canoe commonly used in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. It is propelled through the shallow waters of the delta by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole, in the same manner as punting. Mokoros are traditionally made by digging out the trunk of a large straight tree, such as an ebony tree or Kigelia tree. Modern mokoros, however, are increasingly made of fibre-glass.

Clouds over Dimitsana village
Dimitsana village is built on a mountain slope above the river Lousios, at about 950 m elevation on the  mountain range of Taygetus. The village has a school, a historical library, several churches, a post office, an open air water-power museum, an open amphitheater, hotels and a square.
During the Greek independence war of 1821, much of the library was destroyed, as the Greeks needed the paper to make "fysekia" at the 14 gunpowder mills of Dimitsana, who worked day and night supplying the freedom fighters. For this reason Dimitsana called "powder keg of the nation". After 1960 most of the inhabitants, migrated and settled in America, Australia and elsewhere.

Mother care
Female Savanna Baboon typically give birth, usually to a single infant, after a six-month gestation. The young baboon weighs approximately 400 gr and has a black epidermis when born. The females tend to be the primary caretaker of the young, although several females will share the duties for all of their offspring.
After about one year, the young animals are weaned. They reach sexual maturity in five to eight years. Baboon males leave their birth group, usually before they reach sexual maturity, whereas females are philopatric and stay in the same group their whole lives.

Asking for directions
- Midday at Sesfontein settlement, in Northwest Namibia, we stopped to ask for some road directions these two young himba boys. They were very helpful indeed, as you can see in the picture.

The Himba people are an ethnic group of about 20,000 to 50,000 people living in northern Namibia, in the Kaokoland region. They are a nomadic, pastoral people and they breed cattle and goats. Because of the harsh desert climate in the region where they live and their seclusion from outside influences, the Himba have managed to maintain much of their traditional lifestyle.

Lazy sunny afternoon
-Mares and their foals grazing by the lake Kerkini. The human intervention usually retracts or takes negative action against the natural processes, Kerkini lake is a rare example, where the gentle human handling had the exact opposite result.

Lake Kerkini (Greek: Λίμνη Κερκίνη), in Greece, is an artificial reservoir that was created in 1932, and then redeveloped in 1980, on the site of what was previously an extremely extensive marshland.

Kastraki village, Meteora
The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα)  is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. The Metéora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The nearest town is Kalambaka and just under these huge rock pillars is Kastraki village.
Studies suggest that the pinnacles were formed about 60 million years ago during the Paleogene Period. Continuous weathering by water, wind and extremes of temperature turned them into huge rock pillars, marked by horizontal lines which geologists maintain were made by the waters of a prehistoric sea.

Machu Picchu Archaeological site in Peru
A famous UNESCO World Heritage Site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti. The Incas built the estate around 1450, but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham.
Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of what the structures originally looked like. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored. The restoration work continues to this day.

Mature male Warthog
The warthog or common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a wild member of the pig family (Suidae) found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa. A warthog is identifiable by the two pairs of tusks protruding from the mouth and curving upwards. The lower pair, which is far shorter than the upper pair, becomes razor sharp by rubbing against the upper pair every time the mouth is opened and closed. The upper canine teeth can grow to 25.5 cm (10.0 in) long.
The tusks are used for digging, for combat with other hogs, and in defense against predators – the lower set can inflict severe wounds. Although capable of fighting (males aggressively fight each other during mating season) the warthog's primary defense is to flee by means of fast sprinting.
The warthog's main predators are humans, lions, leopards, crocodiles, and hyenas. On occasion, warthogs have been observed charging and even wounding large predators. The warthog population in southern Africa is estimated to be about 250,000.

Etosha National Park
- It's not easy to spot the Giraffe (the tallest animal in the world, reaching up to 5.5 m. height and the biggest ruminant up to 1,900 kg weight) inside that vast savanna area of Etosha NP.

Etosha National Park is in northwestern Namibia. The park was proclaimed a game reserve on March 22, 1907 and spans an area of 22,270 square kilometres (8,600 sq mi) and gets its name from the large Etosha pan which is almost entirely within the park. The park, which is famous for it's wildlife, is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and 1 species of fish (up to 49 species of fish during floods), including several threatened and endangered species such as the black rhinoceros.

"Sorry, I am in a hurry!"
Ostriches usually weigh from 63 to 130 kilograms (140–290 lb), with exceptional male ostriches weighing up to 156.8 kilograms (346 lb). It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs and the ability to run at maximum speeds of about 70 km/h (43 mph), the top land speed of any bird. When threatened, Ostriches run away and can often outrun their predators in a pursuit and can even outpace cheetahs over long distances.
