I think Kate Winslet would be the perfect choice to play McPherson in a movie.
" By the spring of 1926, McPherson had become a phenomenon—a household name across America. So it came as a surprise to the faithful on May 18, 1926, when McPherson did not arrive at the temple to preach the scheduled sermon and her mother stood in. By the next day, the entire nation was in shock at the news that Sister Aimee had disappeared and likely drowned."

Cool New Lego Set
"The most recognized work of architecture on the Australian continent has joined the LEGO Architecture series, the new LEGO Sydney Opera House. This 20th century marvel has been re-created in nearly 3,000 bricks of various shapes, sizes and colors. In a matter of hours, fans of the Sydney Opera House can reconstruct its architectural glory in a scale model of their own. While the image above does look detailed, it belies just how large and involved this remarkable LEGO set will be when completed. This latest addition to the LEGO Architecture series will begin shipping in September for $320, just in time for the start of the holiday shopping season."

I need some advice from gamers who have an Android tablet. The Spiderweb software games do have my interest. I am not a huge fan of JRPG's. Any suggestions ?

More original programs from Netflix are on the way. This time they are geared for children. Good move for both Netflix and DreamWorks.

" As a follow-up to our article on the history of Daily Planet building in Superman comics and a response to a few comments, I thought we’d take a brief look at some of the Art Deco buildings used to represent the offices of the Daily Planet in live action film and television depictions of Superman. I am a wimp when it comes to bourbon. I have to mix it with coke. I am sure purists find that revolting.
" Though the Filson Historical Society is home to bourbon labels printed as early as the 1850s, he says, “the story that the name ‘bourbon’ comes from Bourbon County doesn’t even start appearing in print until the 1870s.” Instead, Veach believes the name evolved in New Orleans after two men known as the Tarascon brothers arrived to Louisville from south of Cognac, France, and began shipping local whiskey down the Ohio River to Louisiana’s bustling port city. “They knew that if Kentuckians put their whiskey into charred barrels [which gives whiskey flavor] they could sell it to New Orleans’ residents, who would like it because it tastes more like cognac or ‘French brandy’,” says Veach."

I have watched Trading Places many times and never get tired of it. Eddie Murphy was great in this movie.
" Trading Places is a goofy movie that makes a clear, crucial plea: by 1983, it was well past time to let go of racial bias. It was well past time to level the playing fields between races and classes. Trading Places, for all of its broad comedy and wacky costumes, is nothing so much as a morality play. You’re wrong, Ophelia. Trading Places is Shakespeare. Shakespeare as interpreted by John Landis…and the guys who wrote Space Jam."

ESPN just figured this out ? I don't think anyone fell for the hype a couple of years ago.
" That was ESPN talking about the future of sports in 3D back in January of 2010, when it announced it was launching a channel dedicated to them, ESPN 3D. It went live on June 11 of that year. And now, almost exactly three years later, the company has apparently concluded that 3D sports don’t have much of a future. It’s decided to shut down ESPN 3D by the end of this year, blaming low demand among consumers for the channel’s brief run."

I enjoy taking this road. It's not the fastest road in the area and there is always a radar set up but the vegetation makes the drive more serene.

I enjoy reading articles such as this. It reassures me that the public has always craved a juicy court case no matter the time period.
" She was born Emma Augusta Hempstead in the mid-1810s in Brooklyn. When she was 19, she met and married George Cunningham, a businessman some 20 years her senior, and the two lived in relative style in a rented house near Union Square in Manhattan. But he proved to be less than adept at handling money, and by the time their fourth child was born they had moved back to Brooklyn to live among relatives. When he died, Emma Cunningham inherited his property (meager), accounts (empty) and a life-insurance policy worth $10,000. She knew that wouldn’t be enough to support her family indefinitely, especially not if she wanted to move back to Manhattan and live as a proper lady.
Using a portion of the money to outfit herself in the latest fa... more »

Temperatures in the Sonora Desert are expected to be around 110 over the weekend.
" A study released Wednesday by Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner and the Binational Migration Institute at the University of Arizona, found the typical migrant to perish in the desert is a man, around 30 years old, from central or southern Mexico who had succumb from exposure while trying to evade law enforcement. Women made up 20 percent of the deaths; children and teenagers as young as 10 accounted for 13 percent of deaths."

I use to wear the shirts back in the 80's. I do find them very comfortable but way overpriced now. I buy my polo shirts at Target now. Yes, I am cheap with no fashion sense these days.

"From a civil liberties perspective, the program could hardly be any more alarming. It's a program in which some untold number of innocent people have been put under the constant surveillance of government agents," said Jameel Jaffer, American Civil Liberties Union deputy legal director. "It is beyond Orwellian, and it provides further evidence of the extent to which basic democratic rights are being surrendered in secret to the demands of unaccountable intelligence agencies."

Good information for PC desktop gamers looking to upgrade.
"Haswell is all about power-saving and improved integrated graphics. In other words, the 4th Generation Core architecture is built for mobile computing, not the humble ol’ desktop where we wont see the funky new Iris Pro graphics except in BGA trim.
On the desktop things haven’t really moved on since Sandy Bridge arrived on the scene many moons ago. And to be honest if you’re sat on an i5 or i7 Sandy Bridge chip then you’re arguably better off sticking with your current CPU/mobo configuration and spending the cash on something like the Nvidia GTX 770 if you’re after a gaming boost. Lists like this are always fun to debate. I do agree with the number one pick. I would have put The Wire at number 2 though.

Tomorrowland remains my favorite part of Disneyland mainly because of Space Mountain but New Orleans Square is a close second mainly because of the atmosphere.

It's hard for me not to think of Fantasia when I do hear Rite of Spring.
"The score has survived constant choreographic reinterpretation, endless analysis and exploitation in the movies – even being featured in Walt Disney's Fantasia. Stravinsky apparently hated how the cartoon cut and represented his ballet. I, for one, cannot fully disassociate the piece from the gaudy though enthralling images of dinosaurs and volcanic eruptions that so entranced me as a small child."

I do enjoy hot and spicy peppers but I think I will pass on these peppers.
"What accounts for the seemingly vast range in people’s tolerance for cap- saicin? Some of it, of course, is genetics. Just as the number and density of taste receptors varies from tongue to tongue, so does the pain receptor count. (But not in a correlative way; so-called supertasters are not necessarily more sensitive to capsaicin.) According to Bryant, tolerance is more built than born. Just as bagpipes and muskets may damage auditory nerves, capsaicin gradually destroys the pain receptors that respond to it. Bryant gives the example of Mexican children introduced to capsaicin as young as 4 or 5, in the form of chili candies. By the time they’re adults, their receptor load has been devastated. “What would scorch your palate off is a pleasant burn to them.”

"Some estimates say that the Brits handed out 72 million amphetamine doses to its military. Speed was a regular part of US Army supplies. Japanese kamikaze pilots would be hopped up before their suicide missions. And not to be outdone, the Germans were handing out not amphetamines but methamphetamines - crystal meth, as known to Breaking Bad fans, first synthesized in Japan in 1920 - to its panzer divisions. Some say that Adolph Hitler took a half dozen injections of meth every day."

I don't think I will order a scotch on the rocks if I am ever in NJ. I have a feeling though that this is a common practice done all over the US. Maybe not the rubbing alcohol part, but switching premium brands with house brands.
