Starting a nonprofit is a ton of work. With that work comes a whole bunch of emotions. While all the feels are still fresh, I wanted to document them - in GIFs. I may have made it funny, but there's a ton of truth in the worry, hopelessness, excitement, frustration, and joy that comes with starting a company.

Consider this my emotional handbook in what to expect if you too want to start a startup... and enjoy the GIFs ;)

Giant Photo Booth Pictures

This is a fantastic idea for home decoration, and so damned simple. Years ago, I used to hang giant concert posters, and it was so easy (and inexpensive) to get a sheet of foam board and spray adhesive (glue). It was a 15 minute project and the end result looked incredible. You can do the same with blown up photo booth pictures!

Growing Pains - Flickr's Turn

Ah, looks like G+ users are not the only ones complaining about a redesign. Maybe I should just buy and predominantly use a tablet since that's where all the design changes seem to center. I'm not a fan of this trend in development.

Now, as for Flickr, with a terabyte of free storage, I'm planning on giving it another look. I used it pre-Yahoo and a little bit afterwards but it has been a whlie. I'd like to keep everything Google-centric, but honestly find the photo storage with Google/G+ cumbersome.

72,000 Tumblr Imports to #WordPress  in a Single Hour!

It looks like the #tumblr  exodus has begun and people are flocking over to +WordPress, taking all their content with them. 

There has been no official number of how many total imports from Tumblr have happened since Yahoo's announcing the acquisition, but I expect that it is significant. 

As a WordPress fanatic, I see this as a graduation of sorts for users. What do you think?

So, this weekend I took daughter and niece to the mall to hang out. I wanted them to have some independence so I let them walk about on their own and I bee-lined for the bookstore. When they met up with me, they were more giggly than usual and said they had something for me later. Hmm. OK. :-/

So, later that evening they told me to close my eyes. I did. In rapid succession, first I smelled something reminiscent of something good, yet not so much. Then, it hit my lips. Blah! Not! Good! Bacon, but BAD Bacon!

And then, the giggling as I danced around making faces. :-)

Pictured: Bacon Flavored Lip Balm. Made in China. Apply smoothly and evenly to lips. Not to be eaten. ??? Discontinue use if rash, redness, or itching occurs. !!!??? Parental supervision is advised. Also apparently contains nothing akin to, oh, BACON!!! ;-)

Zombie apocalypse? Pshaw. Try a giant chicken!

I have passed by this giant chicken on the highway for years and yesterday daughter and I finally decided to stop and investigate. Daughter stared her down or I would have busted out some ninja moves; it only looks like I am cowering in fear to lure her into a false sense of security. ;-)

How To Teach The English Punctuation System

Did you know that you put in a comma in your writing whenever you take a breath? (I assume that means while reading aloud.) How about a period? Well, I guess that’s a deeper breath.

You might also try putting a period at the end of a “thought.” And what about semi-colons and colons? Well…maybe those are for exceptionally long breaths and thoughts? Okay, I guess you can see that these are no official “Struck and White” rules about usage but rather the kind of myths about standard punctuation that are perpetuated, sometimes by educators, I’m afraid.

Star Wars AT-AT Walker - An Inner Look

Deployed as weapons of terror, the gigantic Imperial All Terrain Armored Transport walkers advance inexorably on the battlefield like unstoppable giants. Of course, some of us know better...

There's something about schematics and cut-away diagrams like this that sings to my inner geek. This one is interesting and it fascinates me. I'm reminded of The Way Things Work by David Macaulay, who piqued my interest as a young kid.

A Tale of Two Mugs

On +Chris Mallory's birthday, the inimitable +Mary C. drew a wonderful portrait of him (http://goo.gl/Nxct1). Always a fan of her attention to detail, I commented on the Squidward coffee mug cartoon Chris was holding. Well, commented, slash, coveted, I suppose. Mary wanted us to arm wrestle, but being as it was Chris' big day (and the fact that youth outweighs geek arms and carpal tunnel) I said that I "wouldst not coveteth his mug... much." Chris, being the uber nice guy he is, offered to let me borrow his mug. Although, now that I think about it, (1) he's in California, and (2) it was a cartoon mug. Okay, definitely putting him on the list for some smarty-pants Photoshop treatment.
