Grounded
It would be lovely if the weather would cooperate a little bit. Just a little bit...

Yet another arch in Rome while checking the new G+ interface
To be honest I am only sharing this to test the new functions and aesthetic changes here in G+. While uploading this photo, however, I noticed that in the preview its colors have been somehow modified (the yellows washed out and the sharpness applied quite heavily). That being said, I do like what they have done with the user interface far more than what they have done on the previous changes.

Day, after day
It's been a while since my last visit on G+, my excuses but as you also can see I was busy picking flowers and counting clouds and with some other project that is absorbing right about 90% of my time at the moment including the necessity to learn an exciting 3D modeling software...

Bye Bye (Queen) Beaaaaa
It has been an important day today in The Netherlands: Queen Beatrix abdicated in favor of her son, Willem Alexander, now King.
I come from a country where monarchy existed only long ago, so I wasn't quite familiar with the formalities and the structure of the beautiful crowning ceremony. I also did not understand until now how much did the people of The Netherlands love Her Majesty: in her 33 year long reign among many important things, she supported the country during one of the most delicate phases of cultural integration. Bye Bye Queen Bea, you did pretty well!

The rainy night of S.Marco

Something new up there
I fly for many years now, in fact I started flying since the age of 16. Recently I started a new semi-professional activity involving cameras, aircraft's, travels, some large technical infrastructure, intense post production, useful ideas but especially involving a bounch of really extraordinary people (and not only because they are also amazing pilots) with whom I have the pleasure to exchange ideas, resolutions and a fairly large deal of working hours. It will take a little while but we hope to come up with something useful for the community.

Under the bridge (with a view)
I will be travelling to Rome tomorrow so I thought I would post something accordingly. The castle in the background is called Castel Sant'Angelo here shot as viewed from under a bridge right next to it (like most of the bridges in Rome, this serves as shelter to the homeless).

Blue, for a change
Well, I am not a big fun of color manipulation but I thought I would process this panorama with a mood that would remind me of how cold it was when I took it. The entire sequence consists of 9 portrait-oriented shots for a total of 230 mp.

Sailing in the mist
What I admire of professional sailors is their ability to face any weather condition: some are clearly dangerous like thunderstorms and very strong winds, other are subtle and potentially even more dangerous, like this thick mist covering my city and sea tonight (the shot was made a couple of hours ago)

The only spring
I better save this, because so far this is the only spring I have seen here.

Prisoner of your weight
Centuries have long gone by, armies you marched and seen marched
Springs, colors and flavors made you sweet like nowhere
Men made you beautiful like no others
A cross made you eternal
Yet, Rome, prisoner of your weight, you could never escape.
Your son, Vincenzo

West walks - West thoughts
Refreshing, romantic, windy, sun, shoes, cold, dogs, immense, wet, birds, always moving, always there, at sunset. Nobody. Everybody. Everyday.

It doesn't really matter where, why and how. What matters is that it's together.

Happy Easter!
I didn't know about the Easter tradition, if you're interested in the origin of this festivity, here is some more:
The name Easter was originally derived from the word Eostre. Eostre was the ancient Greek goddess of spring. It was believed that every year, Eostre returned to Earth after a long, cold winter and brought along with her the light and warmth of Spring. Thus, ancient Greeks held pagan festivals to welcome Eostre and herald the onset of spring.

Best way ever to test the focus of your lens (and have peace of mind)
I was a little worried about the focus of my lens, so I set up a quick but very effective method that would give me peace of mind on all focus related problems:
1) Order a Buffalo mozzarella
2) Slice it in half, from side to side, and let the milky water drip
3) Now, try to focus as sharp as possible with your camera right on it
4) Have a bite and forget all about the lens, the DOF, composition and megapixels. Be in Heaven and stay there, your lens will focus a lot better after that.
5) Repeat the experiment as often as possible.
P.S. Beware, the process is also very enjoyable.

Announcing Fuming Light Ver 1.1
Free, open source and very tiny web gallery
I am please to announce a new release of Fuming Light. Since the last release, I have now added a navigation function to allow moving from one photo to another without leaving the full view mode.
The main characteristic of this framework lays and on its simplicity: it consists of a single PHP file.
Here is the link:

I love places where I walk and I can hear my steps echoing below the arches, every voice becomes important ever whisper a song, every thought becomes an idea.

The diva on a marble stage
While walking on the streets of Rome in the good company of +Enzo De Martino and +Alessandro Cerè , we passed in front of a portico paved with a typical white travertine marble. Probably all of us were intrigued by
the nice contrast that the light was offering, pooring from the opposite opening and showing an interesting texture on the floor. So we all stood right in front of the doorway for a moment, taking pictures. This lady came by and seening three men so interested in her picture, kindly walked past smiling and saying "don't worry, I am not a diva".
