I know some bigger, scarier scandals are unfolding, but you should spare a little outrage for a local story:

The Selinsgrove [Pennsylvania] Zoning Board voted unanimously Thursday night to have J.C. Carlson remove a partially built tree house from his property.

Carlson started building the tree house last month for his daughter’s birthday. That's when officials told him he needed a building permit, and the tree house violated the borough's zoning laws.

The ten largest metros have recovered 98 percent of the jobs lost during the recession, on average. But Houston, the first major city to regain all the jobs lost in the downturn, has now added more than two jobs for every one it lost after the crash. That's incredible.

I told Toric to clean the pile of Lego pieces off of his desk. His desk has no more pieces, but now the dining room table is covered in random vehicles and hideouts.

The dish towel I made using a basket weave Tunisian crochet pattern. I am really digging this technique of crochet! I look forward to working on something a little bigger.

I guess if you are already a strictly mobile google+ user, this whole change up is not a big deal. It's funny watching everyone freak out and having no context for it.

Here's my complete swatch of Tunisian crochet. It has sections of three different stitch patterns, and you can see one side is tighter than the other... I was trying to loosen my tension after I got the hang of the stitches. I think I may unravel it and use the yarn for something that looks nice now :-D

WIP.... attempting Tunisian crochet for the first time. After practicing and unraveling several swatches, I have decided on this stitch to make a dishtowel with. I figure it's a good practice project, and if it looks really lumpy, the dishes won't care :-D

A few shots of my latest project: a poncho for the girl to wear at the church building. The pattern is the kaleidoscope afghan from Unexpected Afghans, modified to fit the need, and adding in a bit of collar. Good way to use up some yarn I had hanging around :-D

I'm Jen, a homeschooling mom of three munchkins: ages six, four, and nearly one. My husband preaches for a small congregation in rural southeast Texas. I've been a follower of Jesus for most of my adult life, and am grateful every day for the mercy he's shown me and me family.

I needed to do a couple of practice motifs to see if I liked them enough to do a whole blanket with them, so I made some dividers for our mini pizza stones. Side note: Sugar And Cream yarn is so awesome. Cotton feels wonderful to work with.

I let the kids out of the dungeon for awhile for some soshullizayshun. I hate to do that because of, you know, the evil, but I know there is no way they can mature to adulthood unless they spend time with other humans their own age.

Tonight's experiment was a recipe we had requested from a friend about seven years ago, and never actually cooked. Jerked chicken with mango salsa! Turned out beautifully (I dialed back the spice for the kids' sake), though it made me a bit homesick for California.

Hi all. I am a southeast Texas homeschooling mom of three, who learned to cook out of necessity (my husband likes cooking, but I didn't want us eating at 10pm). I have gained a lot of proficiency in the last few years, but have recently decided to shake us out of the recipe rut we had been in. I would love to share my successes and ask for tips on how to make things better. Hopefully I can do that here :)

2013-03-28 15:47:47 (2 comments, 0 reshares, 0 +1s)

I have recently acquired a wok, and I am determined to master some stir-fry techniques. Does anyone have any tips or fantastic recipes they would be willing to share? I have done a few dishes and been pretty happy, but would love to hear any advice more experienced cooks might have.

This is a blanket and hat set I made for a friend recently. The hat has an "a" on it, though my husband informed me that it looks like a fish. Oh well. I am still quite pleased with it.
