So, what's been with me?

Settled into a great place for work -- really enjoying myself [and hope my colleagues are putting up with me]. In fact, this is what has been keeping me away from any form of Social Media. That really has to change. Had plenty of compliments on the way to work, stuck in elevators, while wearing my Android Beanie - handing out +Handmade of Awesome cards where I can ;-) [+Julie Murray]

Ubuntu -- 12.04LTS fun. Using it to power a Media Station connected to my TV, and on another computer powering a 'router' that is able to monitor network use-age and tell me which of my internet devices is gobbling up the good stuff. Yet to use it on a day to day basis on my main computer -- I'm still with 10.04LTS for that one. Through no fault of Unity [Lovin' that too], just laziness onmy part ... more »

I wonder just what on Earth the NZMA is thinking ripping off a logo such as this? That advert was from my local newspaper, I immediately locked onto it. One cannot simply rotate a logo and use it in such a manner.

Looks like some other Linux-esk logo's were ripped away in the process. Google Maps Streetview Doesn't Lie!

OKies, thanks MacDonalds Downtown [Auckland] for getting my takeaway order wrong. Now, don't get me wrong, Sarah was as nice a customer service representative as she could be - the folk behind her let MacDonald's down. I asked for a very simple order, that my server, Sarah, got completely correct. That people can't read crystal clear instructions on slips of paper that are attached to the very boxes they are making the burger into is beyond me.

Do you have any explaination for this, +McDonald's ?

The Problem with Google+ on Android, and How I Fixed it

I Like Google

Yes, I really do. My 'love affair' started with google.com itself, when it first really started whacking Alta Vista's [Alta What?] arse, and kicking Yahoo in the balls. Along it came, with a clean and simple interface and got to the nitty gritty without all the fuss. Then [in no particular order] along came Gmail, Docs, Labs, Wave, and Buzz [to name only but a few] - services I've used and liked. Google also has me in the physical world - I love my Pure Android Experience in a phone, an experience that is out smarting everything out there [including iOS].

And then along comes Google+

The Jupiter/Venus Show
Simulated images, as my camera failed to work

So, the planets of Jupiter and Venus decide to have a little dance. This is something I have to watch, and watch I did. Within the red circle In the top half of the image in this post is a Google Maps rendition of where our 'grandstand' [the grassy floor] was. Due to a major mechanical malfunction [I didn't charge my camera battery], I had to rely on Stellarium to provide a simulation of the view +Andrew Birrell and I had of the Conjunction of Venus and Jupiter.

Typical Auckland skies got in the way for part of the evening, but split long enough for us to sit back and enjoy the show. We even listened to Carl Sagan read his 'Pale Blue Dot' commentary - very apt at the time.

Another Year Older
Another Year Wiser?

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted, but it’s time to try and get back in the swing of things. I’ve aged a year, I’m putting my degree to good use, Ubuntu 12.04LTS is getting close to release, I’ve been plugging away CPU power on SETI@home, I’ve been patiently looking into getting Ice Cream Sandwich onto my phone [which looks like it’s not going to happen anytime soon, but no complaints – I may have to get the next Nexus device following the Galaxy Nexus], and a many many other things that I will get around to posting about.

And in the midst of all this I received a wonderful present from a great friend of mine [Katie] – a handmade Android-styled cover for my phone, and a Andy-the-Android handmade card to go with it.
