New study shows that on a whole public schools are outperforming charter schools and religious schools are out performing them both. Interesting. I'd like to see how the data was compiled. But given that Jeynes says that the results changed his mind I'm inclined to give it credence.

"Our kids are smart. They picked up on the message we unwittingly taught. If church is simply a place to learn life-application principals to achieve a better life in community… you don’t need a crucified Jesus for that. Why would they get up early on a Sunday and watch a cheap knockoff of the entertainment venue they went to the night before? The middle-aged pastor trying desperately to be “relevant” to them would be a comical cliché if the effect weren’t so devastating. As we jettisoned the gospel, our students are never hit with the full impact of the law, their sin before God, and their desperate need for the atoning work of Christ. Now THAT is relevant, THAT is authentic, and THAT is something the world cannot offer."

You may have heard some folks talking about this, and dismissed it as unlikely and inaccurate. Here it is from a mainstream source - Forbes.

Homeland Security (not the military) has purchased enough ammo to wage a hot war for 20+ years (and "train" at current ammo use levels for over 100 years), and an undetermined number of heavily armored personnel carriers.

At best, it's a monumental waste of money (especially along with their other purchases, like $50 million in new uniforms). At worst, this is really, really, scary. What are they preparing for?

This is a wonderfully written article. Please take some time to read it.

"If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior's path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door."

President Obama’s State of the Union speech was carefully staged to promote his gun-grabbing second-term agenda. Arrangements were made so TV cameras would pan to the faces of victims of gun violence. Emotional drama, as opposed to reasoned argument, is the primary weapon in this administration’s campaign to undermine a fundamental constitutional right.

How I view Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Some of my friends in the tech press have got that Google+ fever, and are running wild with it. But others don't get it. They come to Google+, look around and wonder what all the fuss is about.

Most of these friends really like Twitter, or really get Facebook. So by way of analogy, I'd like to share with them (and you) how I view Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Here's the analogy:

Twitter is Penn Station.

If you're using social media for content discovery (and who isn't these days), you will find very little of that content on Twitter itself. Nearly all the content you get from Twitter is through links on Twitter to content posted elsewhere.

In that sense, Twitter is a hub for people coming from one place and headed to some other place.

Yes,there ... more »
