Multiplication in mathematics is wrong. Why? Logic.

If I have one person and they multiply once then I have two people. If I have two people and they multiply twice then I now have six people. And if any amount of people multiply zero times then I still have the original amount of people.

Thus:
1*0=1
1*1=2
2*1=4
3*1=6
And so on and so on.....

2*0=2
2*2=6
......

Oh and if I have nothing there is nothing to multiply thus 0*0=0 but infinity*1=infinity_doubled.

The idea that if I have one person and they multiply zero times that they vanish and become nothing is illogical!

Okay, NOW the Internet is EVERYWHERE: Huggies Tweetpee connects your baby's diaper to the Internet ... Dvice - "If you think that your parents showing people your baby pictures is embarrassing, imagine how mortifying it might be if they could show off Twitter messages detailing your first tinkle into a diaper. That's the goal of a new concept device being shown off by the Brazil division of Huggies. Called TweetPee, the concept device is a clip-on humidity sensor that would send an alert tweet to the parent when the baby's diaper needs changing. There's even a dedicated TweetPee website that shows off an interactive model of the device as well as a diagram of how it would work with smartphones. ..." more: http://bit.ly/15GkkMv

"(Phys.org) —Harnessing the unique features of the quantum world promises a dramatic speed-up in information processing as compared to the fastest classical machines. Scientists from the Group of Philip Walther from the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna succeeded in prototyping a new and highly resource efficient model of a quantum computer – the boson sampling computer. The results will be published in the upcoming issue of the renowned scientific journal Nature Photonics."

In a study by a pioneering multi-institution consortium, researchers identify parameters of toxicity of certain nano materials

"For the first time, researchers from institutions around the country have conducted an identical series of toxicology tests evaluating lung-related health impacts associated with widely used engineered nanomaterials (ENMs). The study provides comparable health risk data from multiple labs, which should help regulators develop policies to protect workers and consumers who come into contact with ENMs."

THE ANCIENT BANYAN TREE ... Twisted Sifter - "aken on Hawaii’s Big Island, this beautiful photograph of an ancient Banyan tree was sent to the Sifter by professional photographer James Brandon, who recalls: “This massive banyan tree is located at Rainbow Falls on the Big Island of Hawaii. ... It was unbelievably huge. The tree is somewhere in the ballpark of 500-600 years old and is actually not even considered a tree anymore. The tree was overrun by the figs which attach themselves and send their vines down to the ground. Eventually the tree gets completely covered up. You can actually walk inside of the trunk and disappear! ..." http://twistedsifter.com/2013/04/ancient-banyan-tree-big-island-hawaii/

Time passing more slowly and different processing of cues from environment

[...]

_Dr Msetfi's analysis showed that when there were longer delays, either between opportunities to press the remote button or between pressing the button and the music turning on, depressed people responded differently than others. Interestingly, with these longer delays, their judgements were actually more realistic than those of the healthy volunteers.
This finding supports other studies which suggest that people with depression experience time as passing more slowly; they also tend to process cues from their environment and context differently to people without depression._

"When depressed people have more time to process information about cause and effect, due to their slower perception of time they tend to take more notice of their environment which is often beyond their... more »

Interfering with RNA: Part 2, Dicer and the Argonautes

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post explaining the process of gene silencing, or RNA interference (http://goo.gl/RLZ5j). I wanted to expand on that further today by diving in a bit more into the molecular details of exactly how this happens inside a cell.

• As I explained earlier, the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology is DNA --> RNA --> Protein. This means the DNA blueprint makes a sequence-specific copy of RNA, which in turn acts as a blueprint for a specific sequence of amino acids which make up a protein. So if you could somehow destroy the RNA blueprint (known as the messenger RNA, or mRNA) for a particular protein, this would prevent the protein from being made - no blueprint, no protein. This is what RNA interference, or gene silencing is.

• How does this work within the cell? Howcan... more »

Wow, I've been kind of away from ability to update Google+ much, or to see the traffic. Why does it feel like much of the content has went from awesome like it was when it was in beta to a slightly Facebook feel? Is it that the average education level of its users dropped drastically after the beta ended?

The blue luminescent, high-resolution image of a diamond formed over a billion years ago reminds him of some paintings from Picasso's Blue Period. Like a cubist masterpiece, its striking irregular and anomalous features carry timeless secrets and yield new perspectives on life and the Earth's early history."
