matthew rappaport147,898499 +Google+ ers that are RELEVANT to me according to the PLUSarithmThis MEGA +Shared Circles on G+ is literally the 1st 499 names that are listed when RELEVANCE is selected and 'Your Circles' is clicked under https://plus.google.com/circles (very close to it!)There are 15 that I didn't include in the circle but made the cut that are celebs or pages that I will list below as I wanted to share more users overall in this #sharedcircle  which is almost entirely full of WIN.It is interesting that the first couple of rows are a mix of people I spent more time with in the beginning and with people I spend more time with now (which has interlap!) and of course how does one define 'spent time with' when talking about a social network place but the stream, hangouts, gtalk, +H.I.R.L., etc. The algorithm is not there yet to take note of all the data let alone measuring offline interaction but I tend to +mention people (a page in the Top 499, left out of this circle) a few people now and again, it seems the more you do that with a person or page, the more relevant they are to you in this list. I wonder if that data showing how many times you tagged someone and them you will be available in the future and if so, everyone can expect that number to be high for most from me!I do find it curious that +G+ Interviews which is a page started by +Peter G McDermott that I was helping with takes up my number 3 spot when I haven't tagged it in so long or done much with it in a bit nor felt I ever interacted with it to any level compared with those surrounding it. It's not a perfect system for sure and we all might have ones that slip through the crack that make us go, "Why is this person more relevant or WHO is this person?!"I am the +1 in this circle but everyone else is the +1000 zombies that +byron rempel will turn UNDEAD  +1000 that rocks the PLUS. I can vouchfor almost all the content being interesting, all the people though, that might be another ... WOAH :)~+Having said that, I will produce the next 500 Relevance Ci2013-01-04 19:14:28499413145

Louis Gray115,286Shared Circle: Engaging Women On Google+Last night +Daria Musk highlighted the top 50 women on Google+ who bring great content to her stream. As you can imagine, all users of Google+ bring unique value, but what I've found from having a circle dedicated to some of the great women on Google+, even as that circle has grown to hundreds, is incredible diversity and discovery of new interests. That's not to say men are boring... but... I digress. Here is my updated circle of great ladies on Google+. Add as many or as few as you like, and be prepared for some fantastic content and smart people.2012-04-13 17:44:35382272152
Jimmy James1,980Ok... Here is what I consider to be a valuable circle indeed. My first shared circle, so why not start with the Best ....Ladies . If you know the G+ Men to Women ratio.... you know there are too few ladies out here so far. Add this circle to balance your stream a bit. There are some very interesting people in here. I left it at 400 to start in case I miss any ladies who want to be added. If I missed you and you would like to be in this circle... let me know. ....this circle includes 1 really cool guy.... the guy all these fantastic Ladies have in common2012-03-16 18:31:504001457
Andrea Memenas4,752It stinks that I can't share this entire circle (it's up to 605 and G+ only allows you to share up to 500) with you, but 500 smart chicks is better than none. Happy International Women's Day! Please circle these kick-ass females!2012-03-08 23:09:13500505
Liz Krane8,299In honor of International Women's Day, I'm sharing my circle of sciencey/techy/geeky women who are also active G+ users. :) Some are scientists, programmers, engineers, science writers, math lovers, lovable geeks and nerds... and all of them will contribute some great posts to your stream.I first shared this circle to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day, and it has grown a bit, but I know it's missing a lot of people! So please shout out who else I should add!2012-03-08 17:22:41138171130

Chris Hoyt1,112Circle Back to GoogleLooking for people who work at Google? Here's a great circle that's a strong addition to any search you've already performed on Google Plus and that I'd include with any other search for Googlers that you've already conducted. What's interesting to me (and that I'm getting around to pointing out) is that whether you're just looking to expand your network as a member of Google+ or actively #recruiting and #sourcing online, I believe that you'll find infinite value from the proper care and feeding of Google Plus circles. In fact, if done correctly (and maintained) it's a fantastic way to filter your Google Plus stream and check the pulse of any company, organization or interest group. In the event you missed it, I did an article back in August that mentioned my interest in Circles and how I'd be exploring the management of them. (http://www.recruiterguy.net/recruiting-management-circles) So far, I've not been disappointed in the ability to really hone in on an area of interest by filtering my streams based on these circles and simply watching the conversation flow. Of course, being able to quickly see all of the updates from a particular company or interest group is just the start. The more proficient we get with our filtering, the easier it is to get the latest from fun entrepreneurs, CEO's, diversity interest groups, active and passive jobseekers and more - these are just a few of my own circles, mind you. You have the ability to filter by profession, seniority, geography, language, etc.The possibilities are endless!I'd love to hear how you, or others, are using circles to manage the information stream you've found in G+ so far.2012-01-04 20:07:36348211

Drought in California - my home

The picture shows snow in the mountains of California, 2013 and 2014.  Snow usually provides 30% of California's water, so that was bad news.  But 2015 was much worse.

"We're not only setting a new low; we're completely obliterating the previous record," said the chief of the California Department of Water Resources.  There's now only 5% as much snow as the average over the last century!

California has been hit by new weather pattern: the Ridiculously Resilient Ridge.  It's a patch of high atmospheric pressure that sits over the far northeastern Pacific Ocean and stops winter storms from reaching California.  It's been sitting there most of the time for the last 3 winters.

We did get 2 big storms this winter.  But the water fell mainly as rain rather than snow, because of record-breaking heat.  It was enough to half fill Shasta Lake and Lake Oroville.  But it didn't help the snow pack, which holds more water.

For the first time, the governor has imposed mandatory water restrictions: a 25% cut in water use in every city and town.   This will save about 1.8 cubic kilometers of water over the next 9 months - nearly as much as Lake Oroville now holds.

He said:

People should realize we're in a new era. The idea of your nice little green grass getting lots of water every day - that's going to be a thing of the past.

But what about agriculture?   In California, about 50% of water is used by "the environment": rivers, wetlands, parks and the like.  40% is used by agriculture.  10% is left for businesses and residents.

Brown didn't impose any cuts on agriculture!  That sounds unfair, and people are complaining.   More water is used to grow walnuts than to keep Los Angeles going!

We definitely need to improve agriculture.  But don't forget: for the second year in a row, farmers in California's big Central Valley are getting hit with big water cutbacks.  The ones who get water from the State Water Project will receive only 20% of their usual amount.

Is all this due to climate change?  I heard a wise answer to that question:  instead of a definite yes or no, just: this is what climate change looks like.  This is the kind of thing we can expect.

And on the Road to Paris, this week the US submitted a plan to cut carbon emissions by 25% by 2030... but that's another story.  Or another part of the same big story.

More on the Ridiculously Resilient Ridge or Triple R by Daniel Swain, the guy who coined the term:

http://www.weatherwest.com/archives/tag/ridiculously-resilient-ridge

In February he wrote:

In this sense, the Triple R of 2014-2015 is notably different from 2013-2014. California has certainly received more precipitation this year on a liquid equivalent basis, though we’re once again falling rapidly behind average as February turns out to be mostly dry. The extreme warmth and low snowpack, however, are very reminiscent of recent winters–as is the occurrence of infrequent but intense warm storms. It’s interesting to note that nearly the entire western United States has been exceptionally warm in recent months, while the eastern part of the country remains locked in a recurring nightmare of extreme Arctic outbreaks and almost inconceivable snow accumulations in parts of New England. This overall setup–with a big Western ridge and a deep Eastern trough–has become known as the “Warm West/Cool East” dipole pattern, and it has been a common feature of recent winters in North America. There are a number of hypotheses currently being investigated regarding the causes of an apparent recent increase in the occurrence of this pattern, though there’s not yet compelling evidence pointing to a singular cause (that’s a topic for a future blog post!).

What is more certain, at least as far as California is concerned, is that our severe long-term drought is unlikely to improve substantially until this newly-invigorated pattern of persistent West Coast high pressure is no longer dominant.___!!!

When examining the chain of events that led up to an airplane accident, the accident report looks at every step in the chain of decisions that led up to it. We rarely do so for car accidents -- but this PSA (masterfully done) and this article suggest why we should.

This is really one of the best-made PSA's I've ever seen. It's terrifying.___"We know that nearly 100 Americans will die today in car accidents. We also know that we're not likely to be one of those. "A Woman Found Her Ring 16 Years Later, Growing on a Carrot"

A Swedish woman named Lena Paahlsson lost her wedding ring long back in 1995. She took it off while baking and never found it. The ring was searched meticulously back then, even beneath the floor tiles.

Here’s the bizarre part; the ring turned up recently, 16 years after she lost it. Lena was picking up carrots in her garden recently, and found the ring stuck in the middle of a carrot.

The ring was donning a carrot which was pretty unbelievable. What can be deduced is that 16 years back the ring might have fallen into the sink with the vegetable peelings. The peelings might have composted beneath the earth, but the ring stayed; only to appear again after 16 years.
