Half Dome Sunset & Rainbow - Yosemite National Park
The past few days I've been in Yosemite to try and close out a long running project. Most of my work was done at night, but sunset on Monday night was unlike I've ever seen in Yosemite. Below is a cell phone photo a very pink sunset with a rainbow as seen from Glacier Point lookout.
All day conditions were drab, gray and overcast. As sunset neared the the cloud ceiling seemed to rise and a pipe of sunset light hit Half Dome. This alone would be an amazing sight but just as the light turned red a cloudburst struck turning the entire landscape pink and revealing a giant rainbow. Sunsets just don't get better than this. This was one for the ages.
Tonight I'll dive into the DSLR photos of this scene. As it turns out all that night photography can make you tired. Now that I'm caught up on sleep, at ... more »

Year-long exposure of Toronto skyline produces 'dreamy' image via Pinhole camera
Pretty cool to see how the sun tracks across the sky in one photo. I'm always impressed by these type of photos as the logistics and risks make them all to easy to fail.

If you're previewing the new Google Maps, there's an easter egg hidden in outer space. Set your computer's clock back to Thursday, May 9th at 5pm PDT. Then, enter Earth view and zoom out till you see the cloud layer appear over the planet. Now, look northeast of Australia :). You'll see the little surprise we found as we were testing the new maps. And if you zoom out all the way, you'll even see the moon in front of the sun!

Alright so I just posted my first test with this Auto GIF that +Google+ Photos can do do by adding a bunch of photos that are similar. Read more about all the Auto Awesome here: http://bit.ly/YTtfVz
So I really wanted to know what our limit is, how many photos? So I tested it with 49 photos and it seems to be using all of them. THIS is totally awesome.

1000 feet above San Francisco
Today's views while getting in some practice with my DJI PHANTOM
Up until now I've been practicing basic maneuverability with out a camera. Seeing that it's quite windy where I live I've been very apprehensive to hit higher altitudes. Even though it was windy I finally got up about 200 feet in the air to get the views in over San Francisco. Here's a few screenshots from the GoPro 3 Black footage

Photographer Loses Quadracopter on Job in Weird Way
Unauthorized quadracopter filming results in the vehicle getting stuck in the arms of a statue atop the Marion, Ohio court house.
http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2013/05/02/Marion-courthouse-helicopter.html
"Terry Cline, a 57-year-old Marion native and a videographer who owns Challenge Productions, said he has about $1,500 invested in what is commonly called a drone helicopter. Though it is remote controlled, it’s sophisticated: it can fly as high as 900 feet and is GPS-equipped. With the camera, Cline can take still photographs and record or watch real-time video.
He said he was working on a promotional video about the city when the chopper got snagged by the wind: “It was like Lady Justice was a magnet and just sucked it in.”
He swears he didn’t crash it and thinks it’s ridiculou... more »
