Daria Musk3,547,009Expand to read the story and learn how to join live!Three years ago to the day, I stood in front of my computer - a guitar in my hands, songs in my heart, fingers trembling - about to press a button that said, "Hangout". I was still waterlogged with rainy nights of lugging my amps into tiny clubs and tears from the not-knowing-what-would-happen to my dreams. That night, when I hit "Hangout" you saved my dreams, you saved me. Your faces popped in. We sang all night. Six hours later my heart was six million times bigger and I would never be the same. Every year I want to celebrate that day. I want to thank you face to face. I want to meet back at our special place and sing your praises. It's time for Hangoutiversary III. PLEASE, BE CELEBRATEDSo please, meet me on July 16th. Christina Trapolino54,573#CircleSunday  November 18, 2012It's been several months since I last shared this Circle with you guys, but I'm really glad to be starting it up again.  I have been taking your suggestions into consideration, but this week I'm sharing three people with you who have been on my radar for some time:---+Isabelle Fortin is someone I found through a neat hashtag event called #MovieMashupTuesday .  The idea...well, you can find it by clicking on the hashtag.  Some of the images they come up with make me laugh out loud... IRL.  ;)  Isabelle's stream is also just plain interesting -- she is a self-confessed foodie (and so am I), and one of the few people whose Instagram posts don't annoy me.  I'm certain she'll add some quirky fun to your streams.I've been following +Ralph Roberts for quite some time -- he worked with NASA on the Apollo program (*dreamy sigh*), so you can take posts with titles such as "Does chocolate make you clever?" very seriously in his stream.  Furthermore, ever since I got an iPad, I've found Ralph's posts to consistently liven up my feeds with beautiful images.  If you're from Austin and you know who John Aielli is, you might understand why I freakin' love Ralph Roberts.Last but not least is +Chris Hoeller, who has been in my Circles for a very long time.  His posts are sometimes a lot like reading a Twitter feed -- short and funny -- but he also makes incredibly thought-provoking posts about technology and social media.  I suspect that if you enjoy my posts on the subject of communication, you'll like Chris a lot.---That's it for this week! Please feel free to recommend yourself or others for a #CircleSunday   feature by using the "Send an email" button on my profile or sending a tweet to @cmtrapolino-- make sure you include a link to the profile you're recommending, as some names are not unique.Happy Plussing, everyone!2012-11-19 03:11:2212014227

Christina Trapolino48,549July 15, 2012 #CircleSunday  It has been storming for almost a whole week in Austin!  Those of us who remember the wicked drought from last year (I wasn't a resident then, but a visitor several times) are grateful beyond words for the lower temperatures and the higher water levels in the lakes.  I am especially grateful for the storms because I can actually get more than 4 hours of sleep when it's raining.Stormy Sundays are probably the best thing ever (apart from brunch), and I've spent most of today browsing G+ and adding new folks to my 'potential Circle Sunday' list.  Here are the pleeps I've chosen for this week:---+Lil Peck has a slight obsession with horses.  I don't share that obsession (although I do like horses, and spent many summers as a little girl learning to ride them), but Lil Peck's Stream is just so dang interesting that I read it obsessively, anyway.  My favorite content of hers is tech-related -- especially when it's Google+ related.  Her latest post is an example of this (it's about how to make sure your Stream is drama-free): http://bit.ly/NvrXZV+Rachelle Doorley is an arts educator.  She also publishes something called Tinkerlab, which is actually pretty fascinating even if you're not a DIYer.  Speaking of DIY, my favorite part of Rachelle's profile is her suggestion of which Circles to add her to.  She lists DIY twice!  Whether it's intentional or not, I got a chuckle out of it because that's actually a fair analysis of her content: it's a lot of DIY/crafts stuff.  That said, I keep her in my "awesome A-list" Circle because her posts are fresh and unique.  Check out her latest post here: http://bit.ly/NJMquE+Jonathan Abbey is a testament to the power of the Nearby Stream.  By that, I mean that I found him through the first version of the mobile app for G+ -- he was posting from near my location, and I added him on a whim.  Several months later, and he's still on my read list!  He posts a lot of political stuff (fair warning if you like Romney -- Johnathan's Stream is unforgiving), but he's not preachy.  Talk about a rare find.  Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/NqjhFk---That's it for this week! Please feel free to recommend yourself or others for a #CircleSunday   feature by using the "Send an email" button on my profile or sending a tweet to @cmtrapolino-- make sure you include a link to the profile you're recommending, as some names are not unique.Happy Plussing, everyone!2012-07-16 01:21:3911718125
Christina Trapolino47,824July 1, 2012 #CircleSunday In a few days, it'll be my one year anniversary on Google+, but the platform itself celebrated its birthday this past week.  As a result, lots of people posted fantastic stories about their time here (check the #MyFirstPost  hashtag to peruse the Stream of posts), and I made a lot of new friends.  All three of my Circle Sunday recommendations below are a direct result of that.  I hope they bring something fresh to your Streams, as they have mine.  :)---+Mark Bruce is a regular #ScienceSunday  contributor who came to me via a shared Circle this past week.  If you're looking to beef up your science Circles, you can file Mark under awesome.  He hails from Adelaide in South Australia, which is where I went to some university a few years back.  It's a great, albeit quiet little town full of smart folks like Mark, IIRC.  Extra cool points awarded due to his self-proclaimed enthusiasm for transhumanism.  Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/LJ9YLLI have never recommended a Page in my Circle Sundays, but that's changing this week.  I stumbled across a Googler's new yoga page -- +Quantum Yoga -- during my Stream surfing this week and fell in love.  I want to get into yoga, but I've had some trouble making time for it.  +Brandon Seils' Page is helping me to increase my interest in the practice by highlighting its geeky side.  Maybe my next step will be to find a good yoga Hangout!  Check out the Page's latest post here: http://bit.ly/MNqKNf+Ivan Yudhi is more proof that commenting thoughtfully will get you noticed and Circled by people with common interests.  I found Ivan while hopping around several I/O conversations.  He posts a lot about sports as well as different smartphones and their creators (and other tech, in general).  His profile indicates he's into photography, and while I don't see a lot of his photos in his Stream, I'm hoping he'll take some pictures soon and share them!  Check out Ivan's latest post here: http://bit.ly/LYLBek---That's it for this week! Christina Trapolino47,287June 17, 2012 #CircleSunday Hello again, Google+!This month has been tremendous for me -- as I continue to search for cultural clues that prove my hypothesis that society is evolving its use of social media, I've learned a great deal about the relationship between brands and bloggers (or, as I like to call them, citizen journalists).  More on this later in the week, when I share my takeaways from the Blog Her Food '12 conference in Seattle. For today, I'm very pleased to share these fine folks with y'all for Circle Sunday!---First up is +John Maguire, who is a clinical researcher at the University of Kansas. John livens up my Stream with fantastic posts about all sorts of topics (seriously, they range from sports to outer space), but my favorite thing about him comes from his profile: "Being green is [sic] doesn't have to reflect one's political status, rather learning how [to] better our way of living and sustaining a better place to live for future generations." Hear, hear! Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/MzMHzrI have well over 500 photographers in my Circles, and they are all super talented.  They certainly remind me that my Instagram account is strictly amateur.  Many of them have enormous followings, but some have been less exposed than others.  Case in point?  +Rainer Steinke is a street photographer whose taste and style are, in my opinion, spectacular. This is my favorite of his recent posts: http://bit.ly/MXbUkM+Kyle Sullivan is an exobiology major (bonus nerd points) whose posts are endlessly interesting.  I like Kyle's Stream so much because he mixes NASA information with a quirky sense of humor (he initially caught my attention when I saw some re-shares of his #AwayTeamPorn posts -- y'all know how I feel about Star Trek).  Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/M5sdws---That's it for this week! Jadey A-S Wilson3,457My Artists/Writers CircleI suppose it's a little late for Circle Sunday in most parts of the world but I've been meaning to share this mixed Circle for quite a while. Some of the people within it are purely artists, others are writers, but so many are both that I've never really sat down to sort them out into separate ones. A great number of the people here are wonderful engagers, as long as Masters of their crafts – which are often many and varied. Others are more reticent, but that might well just be my experience – yours may differ...Any road, I hope you'll find some interesting and inspiring people within this group:+Loren Groves _; you were looking for artists and +Lord Parker; I've owed you some Circle shares for a long time, here's a start._2012-06-04 04:14:51246611
Christina Trapolino46,899June 3, 2012 #CircleSunday  Hello again, Google+!  I've been a very busy girl for the past couple of weeks, but I've still been surfing my Streams and looking out for great people to feature for Circle Sunday.  Today, I'd like to share the latest three additions to my #CircleSunday  Circle:---+David Garcia has been in my Circles for a long time, and I've been meaning to feature him for much of that time.  His posts are uplifting and his message is something we can all relate to from time to time.  David has a blog called, "Keep it up, David!" and it's about his battle with losing weight.  He's doing a great job, which is nice to see, but what makes his approach really special is that he doesn't focus on weight all the time.  Rather, he chooses to highlight great things to eat for their taste and nutritional value, which makes his content engaging for anyone -- trying to lose weight or not.  Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/LrbDGU+Gunther Cox only has about 1,100 followers and I have no idea why he doesn't have way more than that, so I'm hoping this feature will help spread his content to a larger audience.  Gunther posts about what is probably the coolest thing ever -- robots.  He makes them and posts about them!  Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/Le1mBLI'd like to let +Jonathan Chalker's profile speak for itself (boy, I love when people really take the time to fill that sucker out): "I am a proud first generation G+ user. In G+ I write articles about science, technology, music, design (web and product), philosophy, media, and customer service in the digital world. I also follow quite a few people, read most of their posts, and actively comment (yay, me)."  He really is an interesting guy to follow! Check out his latest post here: http://bit.ly/KZtWV6---That's it for this week! Christina Trapolino44,279April 8, 2012 #CircleSunday First of all, happy Easter (or Zombie Jesus Day, depending on your preference), everybody! Yesterday was my birthday, so I drove to Dallas to see some friends and am currently in recovery mode after having a large amount of celebratory champagne (shhh, please pass the Advil). Regardless, I'm happy to share three of my newest Circle Sunday recommendations with you all!---+Bud Gibson is a business professor who specializes in technology and online marketing. His Stream, however, is mostly filled with rather pretty photographs and interesting notes about social platforms. Check out one of his latest photographs here: http://bit.ly/Hq1v3J.+Melissa Bryan is a self-labeled "geeky gamer girl," and as a former gamer myself, I find her Stream to often feel like a kindred's. She's got a great sense of humor and her posts will add a nice dash of comedy to your Stream. Check out her latest, Easter-themed post here: http://bit.ly/Hq3iWt (it makes me giggle).I've been paying more attention to my Photography Circles lately, and +Jacob Dix has been posting some of the more unique photos I've seen in the past couple of weeks. He often posts photos with a #MobileOnly tag, which is not something I was previously familiar with. The effects, however, are really more interesting than I would have thought (obviously, I know nothing about photography!). Here is my favorite recent photo of his: http://bit.ly/IcQPRU.---That's it for this week! Alvin Stearns11The Boss or Bust Train Keeps A-Rollin'! #BossOrBust +Ryan Van Sickle and Bruce Springsteen: Let's get these two together to say hi.Look, we have a circle now! If you're not in it and want in, gimme a shout. Everybody into the pool! We've had shares, +1s, some great original content including a graphic and a hashtag. We've got a Plus peep willing to face arrest to slip a copy of Ryan's CD under Mr. Springsteen's door! (Dear relevant Plus member, please keep one of us on speed dial so we know where to contact the bail bondsman.) In short, we as a community have shown a tremendous outpouring of support to get our guy, Ryan, a meeting with his lifelong musical inspiration, Bruce Springsteen. However, it hasn't happened yet, and there's no indication yet that The Boss even knows about this effort -- so, we keep pushing! Let's make some noise, Plus peeps. What better way to show the world that our community, Plus, is not ghost town, not the sound of crickets, but a vibrant, creative, resourceful, colorful, and a community that can't be ignored? We put one of our favorite sons (Ryan) in front of one of the world's favorite people (Bruce). The most often repeated request in this has been, "I want to help! Tell me how!" It's easy! -- Share this posting with your circles;-- Create your own original content about this effort and I'll share that with my peeps;-- +1 everything related to this effort;-- Encourage others to do all of these things.-- KEEP DOING ALL THOSE THINGS UNTIL WE REACH OUR GOAL.There is no Great Leader in this. It's all of us. The circles community, the Republic of Plus. We do it, together. This isn't over until Bruce Springsteen hears about us, says, "Wow, look at how much people want me to meet Ryan Van Sickle" and Ryan is on his way to a meeting. And, oh my gosh, some of you start writing about this yourselves! lol. If you don't, my essays may become novellas, and nobody wants that. : )Tremendous thank you to all of you have made great creative efforts in this: +annie bodnar +stephanie wanamaker +Peter G McDermott +Randall Gygi +Sean Cowen +Mike Elgan +Euro Maestro +2012-04-05 00:34:00238151214
Sophie Wrobel6,893Cream of the cream: My mentor circleThis is my first circle share. I've been rather hesitant to share circles as I feel that circle shares are incredibly impersonal: you get a pile of suggestions without any real idea why, or where they fit in your world. Then +Gideon Rosenblatt proposed a wonderful idea: a Google+ Mentors Circle. The idea being, you add people to this circle who you want to be your mentor, target them by following their posts and building a relationship with them so that you can win them as your mentor. And: what a circle to share! That is the 'cream of the cream' circle. While I don't follow that definition so strictly - I've always been one to silently observe and pick and choose qualities that I'd like to attain, and then copy particular 'role models' without necessarily asking for a more formal relationship - I did start collecting people whom I want to learn some particular quality from into a circle. Potential mentors, you could say. And then I realized: This wasn't a circle I could share. Some of those people were G+ lurkers. Others were using G+ as a Twitter-crosspost-outlet or Reader-sharing-outlet without actually engaging in conversation. So I removed them and was left with a circle of people whom I want to learn something from, who post insightful content and who respond to conversations actively. And that, fellow readers, is this circle. Since these people happen to also be 'big noisy people' on the most part, I expect you are already following some of them. If not, feel free to meet and greet, and/or guess what I'm trying to learn these days. :)I'll share a second circle, one with my favorite 'not-so-noisy' people to read based on content quality, later - again, as an attempt to counter the trend of sharing circles with too much noise.2012-04-01 22:44:0518303
Simone Oech750This is a circle +Moan Lisa shared. I could not figure out in that moment how to share the actual circle so I added it to my circles and now am resharing it.... it only looks like "My" circle. Since Moan tends to collect interesting people, cirlce these and make up your own mind if you want to see the postings. I know ther are very interesing people in the circle, 'cause I have a number of them in mine. #moanlisa2012-03-30 06:43:264993212
Christina Trapolino43,425March 25 - #CircleSunday I hope y'all had wonderful weekends. I spent mine with the Italian side of my family. We celebrated a very early Easter and ate plenty of Italian food, so I'm pretty worn out. Luckily, I've had most of today to rest. And it being Sunday means that it's time for me to share my picks for you to add to your Circles this week!---+Jason Salas is someone I've been following since my first week on Google+. He's a very sharp guy who posts at the most ridiculous times possible (well, for me -- but I live in Texas and he lives in Guam!) but always has something funny, fascinating, or insightful to say. The content he curates is usually of interest to me, but I think my favorite thing about him is that he's a Bob's Burgers fan. It takes a special kind of humor to like Bob's Burgers, and Mr. Salas shares it with me. Maybe you're into quirky comedy, too? You'll like Jason, then. Check out one of his latest posts here: http://bit.ly/GRgLGF.+Lizzy Miles caught my attention by making clever comments on some interesting discussions and I added her to my Probation Circle (if you don't know what that is, jog your memory here: http://bit.ly/uJNTzm). She's got a very interesting Stream full of well-curated content and a really robust profile, although I especially agree with this part: "Lizzy Miles changes her mind frequently about her career identity, but has always held true to her enthusiasm for written and oral storytelling." For a sample of what Lizzy has to offer, check out one of her latest posts here: http://bit.ly/H2YO75.+Jadey A-S Wilson has been in my Circles for a long time, and her posts have always been a welcome part of my Stream, even though she clearly refuses to fill out her profile (or make it public, I'm not sure which is the issue). ;) Her thoughts and commentary are usually a departure from the norm, which is what makes her a permanent resident in my "Recommended" Circle, which is publicly visible on my profile. Check out her latest post here: http://bit.ly/GRO4Ul.---That's it for this week! Jessica Clark-McDowell4,603I recently went through and cleaned all of the inactive people out of my landscape photographers circle. And, this circle is special because it's not full of the same old people that you see in every other circle so you'll get to see some new work and fresh ideas :) If you want to be in this circle and aren't simply re-share and click add yourself, then I'll add you to it before I share it again next time.2012-03-07 16:30:2033711611
Sean Manley89I recently was seeing a few Photographers circles floating around, one dedicated specifically to females. I'd prefer just being able to click to see all photography, myself, so I combined them into a massive one. Since you can only share up to 500 people in a circle at a time, here is Part 1. Part 2 will be coming in the next few moments. If you want, just combine them into one once you've accepted the share.2012-02-28 22:30:24500345

Billy Wilson30,332Interactive People on G+: Part TwoThe other day I asked people who they thought was the most interactive person they have found on G+ and since then I have gotten around 1,000 responses and more than 1,000 people have been suggested. Since people from many different communities responded I ended up with a sampling of people from across a lot of the G+ world. There was interest in having a circle created of the people nominated in my threads and this is the second circle I have produced. There are still more nominations to go through and this is a testament to the community here on G+! Once I'm done working through more nominations I will have another circle ready to share. You can still nominate people on this thread or on this one: http://goo.gl/gkE1d #CircleShare2012-02-01 21:24:0850114466129

You know you played Plague Inc. too much when you read the news about Ebola and you kind of get concern when you read phrases such as "exponential growth", "the first patient in X country" (the US, Spain, the countries in Africa, I can almost hear infection bubbles popping up =S), that it appears to be aerosol airborne, and that it appears to travel on planes. And specially when you see the world not caring too much yet about some decease in West Africa.

Well, that was kind of fun. I was with no Internet for a couple of hours but with some work to do that would be easier if I had more than one hosting space available, and the weather outside is not particularly nice, so, what to do with no Internet?, well, why not make one?

I had Apache installed in a computer, I could create a wireless access point from the cellphone (all computers have wireless), so I kind of created a couple of users, folders in those users, and a couple of virtual hosting setups and even played a little with the hosts file. So, I had it all, hostings, domains (I kind of made life.me, matrix.net, sparta.org, and a couple other silly names I rather not share xD), subdomains were also available; in the imaginary domain where I was setting up projects to test I made one subdomain and hosting folder per project, updated my upload script(s) which work using rsync over SSH, and I... more »

I suppose it was good, my to-do list app is being built by me and works locally, and my window with cookie clicker works offline too (yeah, I am on that); except for being unable to do "git push", and I have been using a little google keep too, which can work offline. I honestly forgot I was offline, and with absolutely no distractions and pretty much no upload time, I had quite an overly productive time.

And yes, I have set up tiny intranets in the past, just not for me, not at all like this, and certainly not this fast. This Sunday is far from over, but I already feel it has been awesome xD, I hope everybody's Sunday is great too =)

But now back to work.___

I really need to go north this winter...

Ole Salomonsen of Tromso, Norway, captured an auroral outburst in this photo, which he calls Emerald Dynamite. The aurora was due to what is called a solar sector boundary crossing. This is when Earth passes through a change in the interplanetary magnetic field direction allowing particles to stream down Earth's magnetic field near the poles. These particles, mainly electrons, interact with oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere producing the auroral lights. credit: Ole Salomonsen and spaceweather.com___I really need to go north this winter...

Ok, I thought I was imagining it, but I am dying, and I got to the stage where I have delusions such as the chemical weapons in Iraq being real and under control of ISIS/ISIL and Fox News  using facts against fear spread by the media. I'm out.

It feels very weird to be posting a video from +Fox News and encouraging everyone to watch it. I'm not sure if I'm in the Twilight Zone or what the hell is going on. But I do know this: if you know anyone that is freaking out over the whole Ebola thing, sit them down and force them to watch this video. If they're still arguing after that, make them watch it again. This is about as period point blank about the insanity of the Ebola scare in this country that one could ask for. Just still surprised about the source!___Ok, I thought I was imagining it, but I am dying, and I got to the stage where I have delusions such as the chemical weapons in Iraq being real and under control of ISIS/ISIL and Fox News  using facts against fear spread by the media. I think it's fair to say that the whole mess in the middle east is a complete, absolute and ridiculous joke, which would be funny if it weren't for how much pain and suffering it has caused.

And I'll say it I don't care how I'm labelled: I think the whole ISIS/ISIL whatever it is called now, is just another invention from powerful people to keep the conflict going there. I don't know who, but I'm willing to bet the same people who benefited from 9/11, the war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, the war in Syria, and so on and on is the same people benefiting from the existence of ISIS/ISIL and the conflict that ensued.

This just gets better daily, doesn't it?!

Coast of Plymouth City, UK - acrylic painting
This painting shows a scene at the City of Plymouth, Devon in the UK. The view is looking west on the edge of the City, with Hoe park behind the viewer and Grand Parade on the right. This part of the coast received a severe battering during the storms of February 2014.
It is a hot summers day and people are to be found swimming in the bay. Drake's Island can be seen in the background and Deer Park further still.
The painting is painted on a canvas board measuring 20” x 16”, and using acrylic paint.

You know, I am happy to see her cry too, it made my day actually.

Woman who refused to bake wedding cakes for gay couples cries.

Fighting a $150,000 fine in Oregon for discrimination after refusing to bake a lesbian couple a wedding cake, this woman broke into tears describing her process at the Values Voters Summit (a Republican summit as exemplified by the clapping in the video). What's funny to me is that it appears her "values" aren't about her intricate process of making people happy with highly personalized cakes, but rather with discriminating against certain people who aren't like her. Oregon, obviously, agrees. Sorry Republicans. You don't "own" values.

Now, this makes me happy - and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Is someone sad? Yes, absolutely. Are sad people good? No, not always. Don't try to be politically correct by saying, "You shouldn't relish in anyone's unhappiness." Untrue. What you're witnessing when you're watching this is someone experiencing a consequence. This person is realizing that her actions are not socially acceptable and not in the greater interest of their declared values. While I'm not saying we shouldn't be empathetic at the risk of making these people double down, we need to realize that moments like this advance equality across the nation. It's not an easy realization for everyone to make.

In a post on Facebook she quotes evangelical pastor Rick Warren in response to her bakery shutting down: "...to love someone means that you must agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate." Well. Yes. Yes actually you do. What a dangerous, dangerous belief if helping people is your honest motive.

So, sorry for your loss baker Melissa Klein. I hope you learned something and that you don't become a super villain out of spite.

This is an example of bravery, and why I truly admire the women in Iran. Many are removing the obligatory hijab in private places, where no one can see them; but then some do it in public: in buses, in shops. The woman in this picture walked like this on the streets for two hours, passing many people, facing their looks, and aware of what the consequences would be had she been stopped by the moral police (they have a moral police in Iran that can deprive women of their liberty for not dressing "appropriately").

In most countries women walk like this unafraid, but not everywhere; in some places the thought of doing it is just terrifying, and it must be horrible to live under that sort of fear, hiding under layers of clothes to not upset the opposite gender who can decide what you wear.

I agree. The problem of gender disparity is basically men getting preferential treatment and women trying to achieve equality; it makes sense that the word describes that.

It is a misconception that feminism is about inverting the situation; and not just men, there are also women who have argued with me because I used the term feminism at some point, but feminism is the movement for equality, not for inverting the roles and have women with preferential treatment and men discriminated.

And here is the thing: countries with more equality are doing better than those where machismo is still prevalent; such as, sadly, Mexico.

So they thought that it was a good idea to enter this man's house through the window at 5:30 am, and now they want to execute him for doing what I think many would have done in the same situation: to think that it was a burglary and defend your house.

I am really hoping that all the charges are dropped so the police learns a lesson that may prevent this from happening again. But if they sentence him to dead, ..., I don't even know what to say, you just won't feel safe anymore, because you will have to defend your house but hope that it is not a police raid; the burglars may harm you, but the authorities may kill you.

Where are all the pro-castle doctrine/stand your ground supporters now? This is the American Justice system. The same state that let a wealthy teenager that killed three people while joy riding go because of his, "Affluenza;" wants to murder a man for defending himself against what he thought was home intruders.

How can there be peace when there is no justice?___So they thought that it was a good idea to enter this man's house through the window at 5:30 am, and now they want to execute him for doing what I think many would have done in the same situation: to think that it was a burglary and defend your house.

They are supposed to be public servants, but some of them are horrible human beings, the character of the person is not even considered before they are given power and a gun =/

One post, two examples of abused by police.  One took place three days ago, the other seven years ago.  In both cases the police used the phony excuse that they mistook these women of color to be prostitutes.

In the first example, the supposed hooker was a 12 year old in her own yard, and the police attempted to grab her out of that yard without performing a proper arrest, which strongly suggests they were actually seeking to abduct her, and used their position as police officers to try to justify their actions.

In the second example, an actress was arrested, handcuffed and taken away by police who claimed she was a hooker.  Her story is ongoing in the pages of facebook.  She's not keeping quiet about it, nor should she.

This is the second time this week I've read of police or other security personnel accusing black women of being hookers for no reason other than that they are dressed well and looking happy.

Space travel isn't about making a rocket full of fuel that gets burn all the way to the target, the amount of fuel to even get to an object as "close" as the moon would be exorbitant.

What is done instead is to use the gravitational pull of other celestial objects, such as planets, to accelerate; and the fuel is used to control the angle at which the probes or spaceships approach the object.

If the probe gets in the wrong angle, it will either get captured by the gravity, or it will just pass by nearly unaffected, but on the right angle, it accelerates as if it were falling into the celestial object (which technically is what is happening), only it misses and ends up leaving from that object at a higher speed.

For instance, going to the moon and coming back required a gravity assist from the earth to get to the moon, and I believe that it was 2 or 3 from the moon to get to... more »

I will persist until I succeed.

Henceforth, I will consider each day's effort as but one blow of my blade against a mighty oak. The first blow may cause not a tremor in the wood, nor the second, nor the third. Each blow, of itself, may be trifling, and seem of no consequence. Yet from childish swipes the oak will eventually tumble.  So it will be with my efforts of today. I will be liken to the rain drop which washes away the mountain; the ant who devours a tiger; the star which brightens the earth; the slave who builds a pyramid. There's a reason Iceland is referred to as the land of fire and ice. The hot glow of the eruption from the Icelandic volcano Bardarbunga is seen underneath the cool and ethereal haze of the aurora borealis. #iceland   #aurora

Inventor Nikola Tesla was one of the most brilliant minds of all times. The inventor spoke eight languages, and had a photographic memory—he could memorize and recite entire books, as well as visualize and build devices without writing anything down.

Learn just how much the world owes to Tesla's genius:

The beauty of physics

This is a large-scale demonstration of the interaction between period and pendulum length, using 16 bowling balls hung from a wooden frame.

Here are answers to some common questions:

What am I seeing? How does this work?
The length of time it takes a ball to swing back and forth one time to return to its starting position is dependent on the length of the pendulum, not the mass of the ball. A longer pendulum will take longer to complete one cycle than a shorter pendulum. The lengths of the pendula in this demonstration are all different and were calculated so that in about 2:40, the balls all return to the same position at the same time - in that 2:40, the longest pendulum (in front) will oscillate (or go back and forth) 50 times, the next will oscillate 51 times, and on to the last of the 16 pendula which will oscillate 65 times.... more »

Try counting how many times the ball in front swings back and forth in the time it takes the balls to line up again, and then count how many times the ball in back swings back and forth in the same time (though it's much harder to keep your eye on the ball in back!)

Who made this?
This was made by Jeff Goodman, who teaches at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Jeff has some more information and videos about the making of this pendulum wave at http://celophoto.blogspot.com/2012/03...

Why are they not perfect at the end?
This large frame is built from wood and is outdoors, which means it expands, contracts, and flexes. Because the position of the frame changes, the cycle lengths are not perfectly aligned. Variable energy loss due to air friction and the striking of the pipe at the bottom (which creates the music) also contribute to differences. Over time, the minor differences become more pronounced.

How can I make my own? Where can I learn more?
Here are some links to information about the physics behind this. I don’t have the plans for it, but work through the information at these links and design your own - you’ll learn a lot about physics, math, and construction!

Where is this?
It was built on private property in the mountains of North Carolina (United States), near Burnsville. It is not open to the public. However, Jeff Goodman and I recommend some places near this that work to make the magic of the natural world a part of everyday life. The joy and wonder in our world that these places foster is exactly what drives the creation of amazing things like this pendulum wave!
-- For all the kids in your life, check out Camp Celo: http://campcelo.com
This is a farm-home camp for kids 7-12 (and older kids can work there!). It’s a wonderful place for kids to experience the natural world with independence and joy. No electronic entertainment, just the home-grown variety like this pendulum wave. If you don’t have kids to send there, make a donation to Friends of Camp Celo (http://friendsofcampcelo.org) to help send a child to camp who otherwise wouldn’t be able to go. (I am on the Board of this all-volunteer nonprofit and this video was taken at one of their events.)
-- Right next door is the Arthur Morgan School (AMS): http://arthurmorganschool.org
AMS is a progressive boarding and day school for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, located on 100 acres of farm and wilderness. At AMS, students learn to question, evaluate, think creatively and work cooperatively.

If you've read this far, will you do me a favor?
Go to this link and vote for JJ to be the 2014 American Hero Dog: http://www.herodogawards.org/vote/?no...
JJ is a very special little dog who protects a very special little girl named KK's life by doing something just as magical as what you see in this video: JJ uses her nose to detect when KK is having a potentially life-threatening reaction, before any medical equipment can detect it. Her doctors think JJ is so good that they invited her into surgery at Duke Medical Center last December! You can learn more at http://eenp.org/main/KKandJJ. The contest ends on 9/15 and you can vote every day. If you like KK’s & JJ's page, you get a daily picture and reminder: http://fb.me/AngelPawsforKK.

There +Neila Rey, what else you got? ;)

Yeah, I'll pretend that it was nothing to look cool while in reality my arms are completely exhausted, my hands have calluses from the roughness of the floor, my whole torso hurts and I though I would not survive that by day 5 >.<, and I nearly gave up on the third day. That was completely, absolutely insane =S, and I have no video proof but I don't care, I know that I did them >.<
