behind the video: just the way you are (bruno mars cover)

this was such a fun one to make. it started when i was in new york recording some songs for the rerelease of my album stairwells. it was late, someone was sleeping next door, and i just kind of started quietly recording little sounds into garage band. before i knew it i'd layered this fun little version of "just the way you are". the whole thing was recorded with the built in mic on my iphone earbuds... although i THOUGHT i was recording it into a usb mic. once i realized it wasn't plugged in, it was too late (or i was too lazy). another notable fact about this video is that the plant you see in the background ended up dying a slow and painful death while i was away on tour. :( to be completely honest though, it was dying long before that. i've since switched to caring for plants like tiny succulents... more »
