Ubuntu 14.04 seems pretty nice, though my USB 3.0 3TB drive isn't loading. Dmesg shows some I/O buffer errors. Was working just fine before I started using 14.04. Hopefully I can find a solution soon.

That moment when you realize the Youtube large player is now smaller than the small player. Looks like their still messing around with the size values. I liked the new "take up most of the window" feature they were going with, hope they bring it back. In the meantime, the small player is now almost as good as the old large player, so I'll just use that for now.

Just rediscovered this gem

"8. Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone."

The chromium team takes great pride in making Chrome OS an operating system for everyone¹. And today, they're taking another step in the spirit of this philosophy by extending Chrome OS support to our beloved furry friends.

Starting from a long-standing feature request², a cat-friendly on-screen keyboard input has been designed based on extensive Animal-Computer Interaction (ACI) research. You or your cat can install the kitty keyboard from the Chrome Web Store and try the four pawing modalities and mouse mode using your trackpad or the touchscreen.
But this is just the beginning: input research is underway for other pet users, including dogs, fish, hamsters, and dinosaurs.

Figured I might as well let someone make use of these Helpouts codes if they want. I could probably care less about the reward from it myself, but if you're wanting to do a free helpout (as long as it's $25 or less), this code will do it for you.

Here's $25 towards your first Helpout: use code STEVEN556.

Of course, if you wanted to do a JavaScript helpout with me, you can schedule one here: https://helpouts.google.com/114460704588764618094/ls/81a0d72f92d8d74f

For the first time ever, astronomers have discovered a ring system surrounding an asteroid.

The finding is a complete surprise to planetary scientists. The cosmic bling was found around an object named Chariklo, which orbits in a region between Saturn and Uranus.

At 155 miles across, or about the length of Massachusetts, Chariklo is the largest known asteroid in its neighborhood. The ice rings reflect light like a mirror. As Chariklo moved through its orbit, its ring system turned edge-on when viewed from Earth. As they turned back to face us with their flat side, they reflected light toward our planet and Chariklo’s brightness grew by 40%.

There are only four other known ring systems in our solar system — around Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and, most dramatically, Saturn — and all the other ones have formed around planets. >>

I've been using Digital Ocean for hosting for the last month, and all I can say is that it's the best service out there!

I've got a little VPS with them hosting my blog (and some other random stuff), and it's so awesome. The SSD storage is just amazing, I've never dealt with any server like it. The speed of transferring files is just amazing.

Pricing is almost impossible to beat, it's great service, and you can even host your DNS with them. Their interfaces are awesome, they have an API that let's you do anything you can do through their control panel, and they have two-factor auth for security!

I highly recommend them to anyone wanting a cheap server to throw up a site, blog, or do some development stuff on. They charge per hour, but it's capped to keep it at a flat monthly rate if you want to have it always on. Some of their mid-sized... more »

Nintendo shouldn't worry about 3rd party devs really. Their whole thing is their first party titles. Just look at WInd Waker HD. The controls are so awesome for that. I think it's just taken Nintendo too long to get good first-party games out.
