Giant Ammonite Fossils
A few weeks ago Ferrebeekeeper featured a post about belemnites, extinct cephalopods from the Mesozoic which teemed in immense schools through the reptile-haunted oceans of that bygone era. Yet belemnites were certainly not the only cephalopods which swam in the Mesozoic seas. Numerous shelled cephalopods—the ammonites—were widespread in every sort of marine habitat.
Ammonites are personal favorites of mine so I am not going to write a comprehensive explanation/description of the subclass. Instead I wish to provide you with an idea of how big ammonites could get by providing a few pictures of large ammonite fossils which have been discovered.
Imagine these monsters jetting through the water with huge tentacles and big intelligent eyes scanning for giant predatory reptiles and you will have a better idea of the Mesozoic Oceans!<... more »

Mission 5 : Spontaneous Spring
+G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers
The second portion of the mission had us… ‘Go out with your camera and just shoot……whatever catches your fancy!’
So for this series I literally spontaneously walked out my front door and captured SPRING… the best part, I managed to produce a similar feel to my winter fog series and I definitely didn't plan it that way. Two seasons complete… how cool is that!

Mission 5 : Intentional Jen
+G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers
For the first part of our Mission, +Ron Clifford had us decide what we were going to shoot, how we wanted to shoot it, WRITE it down and share it with our mentorship community… THEN go and get it!
This was my shared intention:
Maybe not the same as having a place in mind, yet for me it requires a lot of intention to shoot a selfy… so I am going to take on creating a self portrait. Not just A self portrait… something that captures who I am at heart, expresses a passion, and reveals more about being Just Jenuine. I have to be honest and admit… I have not formulated WHAT that shot is, I am just sharing my intention and having faith that as intimidating as that is for me, I will produce something jenuine.

Mission 4 : Four Prospectives
+G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers
Okay, this Mission took a long time for me. I drug my heels like never before, had the commitments in my life exponentially explode (in a positive way), and got to have a breakthrough in grasping although my body demanded more rest/therapy than usual (might as well be honest… I lost use of my right arm due to pain) it does not mean I am broken. And to take it a step further, I published these photos in my mentorship community over three weeks ago and it's time to publish Mission 5… and although the thought of sharing them public still stifles me, here it goes.

To deepen our mentorship's discussion around 'focus', Ron shared the story of his teacher placing him inside a refrigerator box... no joke, he was/did, ask him to tell you the story. He shared how focus is commonly a struggle for creatives and drew an analogy between mental focus and camera focus... how we've come to believe a 'good' picture is 'as sharp as possible' and that brought to mind the bubbles we ALL live in. How now more than ever, we create our own realities, place ourselves inside a bubble with a few key strokes, Google searches, and POOF everything we believe comes to be... yet it all lacks clarity. So of course being me, I took the analogy further and challenged my camera/photography skills to focus on the symbols I use to find mental clarity through BUBBLES.

Intentional Living Fulfilled
As some of you may be aware... I am an environmental geologist, who while embracing my physical disabilities, transformed my life into a nature photographer. What you may not know though, is that in addition to developing my photography skills, I am aiming to grow my business into becoming a social media coach/mentor and much more.
In order to powerfully create the life I desire, I crafted a planner as a tool for intentional living. In the world where my time commitments quite conveniently exist in the electronic ether, I discovered I needed a sacred space to express that which I desired to manifest in my life; to document the significant occurrences, triumphs, losses; a marker of dates that I wanted to celebrate and/or remember; and a record of the journey one intentional year of life can create.

The landscape around Granada Nicaragua is a photographer's dream. Where else can you find a pristine lake, a lagoon in a volcanic crater, and not one, but two volcanos within miles of the town centre?
Well, The Giving Lens Nicaragua team is quickly realizing what makes Nicaragua such a unique and beautiful place. After yet another sunrise at Lake Granada, the team kept experiencing the region's natural marvels with the photography students of Empowerment International by visiting the amazing Volcan Masaya for a sunset tour. Unlike most active volcanos, the Volcano Masaya is continuously emitting carbon sulfur dioxide gas, which gently sweeps through the Santiago crater, positioned perfectly in front of the western sunset. This unique geological feature creates the perfect storm for photographing the sunset. The smoke from the crater helps light the cloudy sky on fire as the sun dips below... more »

Habits… we’ve all got’m. Rather than share all the ones I have, the ones I like, the ones I make wrong, I will instead dive right into the one selected for development through this program… my voice. Somewhere along the way through life, I lost my written voice. Don’t get me wrong, its silence served me well in my environmental report writing and emails with engineers, yet in the process left me personally unexpressed. Now I have full freedom in the world to share, both literally and figuratively, and expressing is the hardest part.
