Markus Guhl24,953MY INSPIRATION CIRCLE...for the first time I share my circle of inspiration. It includes the photographers I look at on a regular basis. There is no need to share this circle to get into it...If you comment on my work and I like yours, I'm pretty sure you'll find yourself in my next circleshare.2015-01-21 19:38:10199001
Gailen Mapes75,281Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera A-C - 14 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to January 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting December 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles   #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcirclesNote: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +Gailen Mapes .   Thanks for your cooperation.2015-01-14 11:53:10204000

Alex Rings

Not the kind of photo that I post usually but there's a small story behind this.

I suppose most of you don't know that I'm a goldsmith (and I make specifically wedding rings, selling them wholesale to the jeweller shops)

Last week I had a special order by a client who asked for these extra wide rings from polished rose gold and matte white gold.
Not my everyday workflow and quite challenging to make right, they took me about a whole day to make but they came out really nice so I wanted to photograph them to somehow "document" the whole thing. My setup was quite quick and simple but they don't look too bad...

...and yes in case anyone wonders, my nick-name "alexring" comes from my job...

Partnachklamm

This is the impressive Partnachklamm (the gorge of the river Partnach) near the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany.

The gorge is about 700m long and at places the rock walls are more than 80m high. At its narrowest points you can really reach out of the walkway and touch the other side!

I had first visited the place some 20 years ago and on my second visit last summer (and despite having visited numerous similar gorges in the meantime) it still seemed every bit as impressive!

Abandoned

One afternoon during our recent holidays near Trihonida lake in Greece, we drove pass the nearby lake of Lysimahia and my eyes caught a row of half-immersed trees near the shore. I could not stop at this moment as we were driving along with company, but I found the scenery very interesting so next morning I woke up early and drove back to the place, some 30 km's away from where we stayed.

I was lucky enough to find a path to the place I wanted (as the lake has no real roads around it) and after balancing among mud and ice (as the whole place due to recent rains and snow reminded more of a swamp rather than a lake) I managed to get quite close to the trees and started shooting some photos. Then I noticed a little further away an old boat that seemed to be lying there forever and luckily enough I was able to approach it without getting too wet or (even worse)s... more »

I was lucky enough to find a path to the place I wanted (as the lake has no real roads around it) and after balancing among mud and ice (as the whole place due to recent rains and snow reminded more of a swamp rather than a lake) I managed to get quite close to the trees and started shooting some photos. Then I noticed a little further away an old boat that seemed to be lying there forever and luckily enough I was able to approach it without getting too wet or (even worse) stucking myself in the mud. Weather was not the best I could hope for, but it was my only chance to be there so I did the best I could with those conditions.

I should definitely like to get back there "armed" more properly with wellies etc...

The walking fisherman

This could well be my favourite shot from my whole early morning visit to the town of Messologhi in western Greece a couple of weeks ago.

As I have already written on previously posted photos the light on this particular morning was fantastic and I had already shot quite a lot of different scenes. But the time was passing and I had to drive back the 60 km's to the village we were staying with friends (I had already visions of Manuela and my friends waiting for me there, shouting and cursing...)

Put all my stuff in the trunk and half-heartedly started to drive (saying to myself that I won't stop nowhere else) but right after 200 meters (or about 42 seconds later...) I REALLY had to stop!!

I was passing right next to this little fishing-boats "port" and seeing the light, the boats and the man in the water I forgot all about Manuela, my friends and their cursing and jumped out of the car. This was a scene well worth of some cursing or sleeping at night on the couch ;-)

I started photographing like a maniac following the man in the water who was picking something from the bottom of the lagoon and put it in his bucket. The funny thing is that I started talking to him and he told me what he was picking but it seems I was so absorbed by trying to photograph him right that I don't remember at all what he said, not even if it was some fish or some oyster! (Any Greek here for help??) Since he was using his bare hands I suppose it must have been some oyster or something.

After about 10 minutes I was quite pleased by what I had got and finally left (not really stopping anywhere else!)

And you know what, I didn't slept on the couch at night, seems nobody really cared about my absence!!

Portofino panorama

This is a photo I wanted to process for a long time, shot back in April 2014 at the wonderful fishing village (and now famous resort) of Portofino in northern Italy, during our "Italy Flickrmeet".

The conditions were not ideal, a rather overcast sky and mundane light for most of the afternoon, but a little later the sky became darker and some mild light lit the ground from the setting sun.

The photo is shot from the terrace of Castello Brown which affords the best view over the little bay of Portofino. In order to capture the full view and dynamic range of the scene I had to take 7+7 sequential shots (two shots for each frame, one for the darks and one for the brights), so I knew it would take me quite some time to get the desired results (and without even being sure about the results...)

Opened each couple of shots in Capture NX2, made exactly the same adjustments and then blended them manually in Photoshop, so ended with 7 ready-to-merge frames, which I blended into a pano with the automatic photomerger of CS6.

Finally I made some distortion and perspective corrections in Photoshop and some final local tweaks in NX2. Took me the best part of 2 hours (actually less than I expected...) and I must say I'm quite pleased by the result.

Tranquility III

Another one from my brief (but very exciting) visit to the town of Messologhi, western Greece, one cold January morning a couple of weeks ago.

After a rather indifferent dawn the clouds and the light gradually turned somehow “magical” and wherever you looked around, scenes that seemed to be taken from fairy-tale books unfolded before your eyes! Really didn’t know what to shoot first!

As I wrote before, I went for an hour or so and after more than three hours I had to be dragged away…

Morning mirror

Another one from my recent (and brief) morning visit to Messologhi, in western Greece.

In conditions like this (great-looking and fast-moving clouds) I like to try some long exposure photos, but this time the reflections on the water were absolutely perfect mirror-like, making me think that I should leave it just as it is. I'm pretty sure anything else would spoil it instead of making it better.

Tranquility II

One of the very first photos I shot upon arriving early one January morning in Messologhi in western Greece.

No, I did not crook the post somehow with the wide lens or anything, it's really crooked like that (you can tell by the reflection and by looking at the other posts behind it) Seeing a car approaching with its headlights on, I was afraid that it might ruin the shot somehow, but judging by the result I think that the red tail-light trails are rather a bonus.

I would love to have shot more like this but the light changed too rapidly, so I just managed a couple of them before it turned too bright. I think I've already told you I really want to go back...

Tranquility

I shot this οn one cold January morning at the lake Trichonida (or Trihonida), the largest lake in Greece.

The initially overcast sky gave place to some wonderful light, penetrating the big holes that the clouds started to create.

I had been at the same place on the previous day and it was so windy that the floating pier I was standing on, was moving so much from the waves that I could barely stand on my feet! What a difference a single day can make...

The haunted forest

The other day I was by the lake Lysimachia (Λυσιμαχεία) in western Greece for some morning shooting and finding this half-submerged row of trees I decided to try some ICM (intentional camera motion) photos for the current assignment "Multiple Exposures and Intentional Camera Motion" running in our Nikon DSLR forum group.

Shot quite a few, I think this is my fave of the bunch.

My "Austria - Germany 2015" Calendar

2015 is here and so is my new Calendar. Loyal to my tradition I did not manage to finish it on time but at least this time I was not way off.

For those who don't know the history behind these Calendars I'll say that from 2007 and on, I make a Calendar each year with some of the photos I shot during our summer holidays (usually somewhere around Europe). I’ve made a couple of templates in Photoshop that suit my printing needs and I use these (or some variations) every year, changing just the days.

This time we did a big tour around Germany and Austria, saw places that we’d already seen before and others for the first time and I must say that I enjoyed every bit of the trip.

This time we did a big tour around Germany and Austria, saw places that we’d already seen before and others for the first time and I must say that I enjoyed every bit of the trip.

As I've said before, each year I face the same problem: Trying to find suitable-looking photos for all the seasons with photos shot just between 2 weeks in August. Of course I usually end up with too many summer-looking ones and very few resembling of autumn/winter. Well, this time I had the exactly opposite problem! The weather was quite moody for most of the time (which was the best I could hope for, regarding photography) but gave me headaches in processing as I often had to combine two or three captures due to the enormous dynamic range of the scenes and finally ended up with too many winter-looking photos and very few summer ones.

You can see (and read a bit about) this and all my previous calendars here:

A new dawn

This is my first post for 2015 and I’m pretty happy about it!

For the last few months I was very busy and had several other issues to deal with, that kept me away from photography (not to mention that it felt like keeping me away from living too…)
So when we visited western Greece for a few days’ holidays together with friends, it really felt like I was living again! Woke up early each and every morning, just to be outdoors and witness the wonder of nature outside the big city (something that I had almost forgotten!) One of the days we visited together with our friends the coastal town of Messologhi and seeing again the place quite a few years after my last visit, it reminded me that in the right conditions it can be a true photographer’s paradise.

From that moment on, I knew that I had to revisit the place as soon as possible but this time alone, to enjoy and photograph some of the fine seascapes it has to offer, as Messologhi is famous for its lagoons (and for producing some of the finest salt around). So an idea started forming into my head, that on the next day if I could wake up early enough I could drive the 60 (difficult) km’s from where we stayed to Messologhi and be there before dawn. Feeling that I was tired enough from those busy past months I didn’t want to set the alarm clock, thinking that my brain should know better if I should rest or get a bit more tired... So I let my inner self to decide and I must say I was not disappointed! At 6:00 a.m. my eyes where wide open and at 6:10 I was in the car ready to start the long (and frozen) descend to Messologhi. About 50 minutes (of driving like a semi-maniac and enjoying every bit of it!) later, I was at the entrance of the town right on the time that the sky had started to get blue, so I immediately drove to the place that I knew I might get something good.

Unfortunately the conditions were not as good as I had imagined (my ideal would be a mix of sun and clouds) as the sky seemed way too overcast at the moment. Time passed, nothing spectacular happened, no special dawn colors or anything and I had begun to think that the “game” was lost. But then something changed (not really sure what) and some wonderful light filled the whole scene. The clouds got a little thinner, the sun started penetrating through them, the sea had the exact right mix of stillness and ripples and suddenly everything seemed to conspire on my favor! Even the boats and the poles seemed to be at the exactly right place to be photographed!! You know what they say about wanting something so bad that the whole universe conspires…

Stayed there for more than three hours, shot many-many (potentially) good photos and had to be dragged away (mostly by the thought of all my friends shouting and cursing me in chore –Manuela conducting- for the endless hours they had to wait for me to return)

Dear Messologhi be warned, as Arnie would say: “I’ll be back!”___

Hallstatt

This must be rather the most cliche photo I shot this summer.
Shot at the village of Hallstatt, one of the most beautiful villlages in Austria (and among the best I've seen all around Europe)

The only thing that somehow seperates my photo from the million similar ones taken from the exact same spot is the moody weather, as it was raining hard for most of the day.

I have some "typical" bright sunshine photos of Hallstatt from my first visit back in 2002 that look gorgeous, but despite the fact that I got soaked to the bone trying to protect the camera and myself under a broken umbrella, I think I prefer this moody version of the place.

My only regret is that due to the rain I didn't walk around as much as I'd like. One of the places I certainly intend to revisit...

I wanted to wish you for Christmas with a winter photo, but our days recently look completely like summer. So I thought I'd post a summer photo looking completely like winter...

Taken on the 31th of August at the wonderful Obersee in southern Germany.

All my best wishes for Christmas (or whatever else you believe) and for a healthy, prosperous and creative 2015!

Piburger see

This is the little Piburger lake, a hidden jem very close to the village of Ötz in Tyrol, Austria.

Didn't know anything about it and we found it all by chance, as we saw a sign while passing by the main road, showing towards a thick-forested hill. From my experience I know that places like this can be really beautiful, so we decided to do the little detour and see what we get.

And it seems we got pretty lucky as the sun got through the thick clouds for quite some time and lit this spectacular scenery.

Greenfields

At first I wanted to write that this was a very nice place that I photographed as I happened to drive-by, but I have absolutely no clue where it was, other than that it's in Germany somewhere between the town of Krumbach (that we stayed for the night) and the area of Füssen we were driving to (a distance of about 100 km's)

Then I remembered that Manuela shot a few (very nice) photos at the same place with the crappy panny that happens to have a GPS built-in. So for all you trivia seekers out there, I'm happy to announce (though I'm absolutely sure that no one will give a damn about it) that this lovely field is right before the north entrance of the completely world-unknown village of Ingenried :-)

Mother Nature owed me this one...

This is the castle of Neuschwanstein, in southwest Bavaria, Germany, definitely a landmark of the area and one of the most visited tourist destinations in the whole Germany with an annual number of about 1.3 million persons visiting each year!

It was built by king Ludwig II of Bavaria (called also the Fairy Tail king) and was intended as a personal refuge for him, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886. Since then it has appeared in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castles all over the world and other similar structures. (data taken from Wikipedia)

We had visited the area for the first time about 20 years ago on a memorable bad-weather day. I still remember it was the 30th of August (because it's my name day) and there was such a heavy snowstorm that snow actually hurt our eyes when we tried to walk outside!! Too weird for a bunch of Greeks!

Needless to say that we saw almost nothing back then, so we considered this lovely view with the mild weather and the rolling clouds as some kind of nature's compensation for us...___

This in the lovely little old port of Husum or "binnenhaven" as it's called, in northern Germany.

We arrived there quite earlier but the weather didn't let us get bored. It turned from sunny to cloudy and then strong rain and then again sunny through dark clouds and rain and so on... So I must have seen it with most kinds of light!

But this blue hour was really fantastic, both being there and photographing it.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber (or why I hate tourists...)

This is a view of the Marktplatz, the main square of the very well-preserved medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany, over the fountain of the square.

My problem was that I'm too shortie to get this reflected view (or the fountain walls were too high for me and without some kind of a step where I could stand on) so I had to jump up and grab myself with my arms on the surrounding wall, trying at the same time to hold the camera steady and level (and very close to the water) to get this angle.

Ohhh and don't remind me of the myriads of tourists looking at me and thinking that I have found something important in the fountain and coming close or in front of me to ask or to look inside and ruining my frame. Bloody tourists! Then I could not hold any more and had to jump down again to rest... more »

Then I could not hold any more and had to jump down again to rest a bit. Then repeat the whole thing for more than 10 times to get a proper shot of everything as the sun was hidden beneath the clouds and came out just a few times for a few seconds each time. I got tired even remembering the whole procedure! Anyway I'm quite pleased by the final result...

Did I mention that I hate tourists??___

Tropical Island

I shot this during a lovely hike around Eibsee, one of the most beautiful lakes in Bavaria, southern Germany.

The lake lies at the feet of Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain and is well known for its emerald waters and the 8 tiny islets as the one seen here.

The hike around the lake (through a very good and wide path) is about 8,5 km and it's both easy and highly enjoyable.

A little boathouse on Alpsee near Füssen, in southern Germany.

We had just visited the famous Neuschwanstein castle on the top of the hill but as we went down to the lake again, some wonderful light from the setting sun lit the top of the trees giving the whole scene this dreamy feeling. A perfect closing to a great day.

Sankt Peter-Ording VI

This was shot on the next morning from my previous upload at the wonderful beach of Sankt Peter-Ording in northern Germany.

It was so rainy and windy that it was very difficult to shot any kind of photo, even more so a LE.
Had to whipe the filter every half a minute from raindrops, making sure that I do it gently enough not to move the camera and on two occasions (not during shooting) the tripod together with the camera started falling towards the water! Luckily I was too close and grabbed it.

I'd definitely like to go back there with some more favourable conditions, but at least all the few photos that I shot that morning are very moody.

Not the typical sunset bright colors but some wonderful soft light all around.

Busum

This was shot at the coastal town of Busum in northern Germany. The weather was completely crappy, too cold and windy and the whole scene seemed absolutely uninteresting, let alone the waves that crashed on this low deck and soaked my feet...

I decided to shoot a LE as the last desperate measure and I must admit that I'm very pleased by the result, no way did I expect it to come out like that!

Haven't shared anything with G+ themes for ages, so as this is quite suitable I'll share it with #coastalthursday by +David Polzine and

The windmills of your mind

I've wanted to do a photo like this for a long time and never had the chance to do it.

But I found these windmills in northern Germany to be the perfect subjects, as the blades had some red stripes in the middle and on the edges, so they left some pretty nice trails as they rotated.

Sunset photographer

Another one from that incredible sunset I witnessed at the wonderful sandy beach of Sankt Peter-Ording in northern Germany.

I had noticed the wet sand and I knew that it would make nice reflections of people but the problem was that there were not many people around, so I must have looked quite funny running behind whoever appeared on the beach! Thankfully no-one seemed to care too much about me, as most of them were absorbed by the beauty of the scenery trying to take photos of their own, so I was free to do what I wanted...

Shot this in the summer at the Westerhever lighthouse, near Sankt Peter-Ording in northern Germany.
Weather was generally miserable on that day (making it very interesting for photography ;-) and I was lucky to have a pause between heavy rainstorms, where I shot among others the one shown here and the LE posted previously:

This past summer during our holidays, Manuela’s sister was willing to keep the children for a few days (thanks Johanna!) so we could have a “mini vacation” on our own.

This past summer during our holidays, Manuela’s sister was willing to keep the children for a few days (thanks Johanna!) so we could have a “mini vacation” on our own.

When we drove to the town of Sankt Peter-Ording with the amazing huge sand beach, we liked the place a lot and decided to spend the night there so we could see more of it on the next day.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for me) on the next morning the weather was horrible with rain, stormy winds and cold. Not the best weather to stroll around but I was not going to give up so easily (since these conditions can provide some great photo opportunities…) I followed my usual routine on getting to know an unknown place by having a look at the post cards on display at various touristic shops. There I saw this bright red lighthouse with the two symmetrical houses on the sides, which immediately grabbed my attention. After a quick search I found out that it was really close to the area, so we decided to drive there and see if we can find it. Though the lighthouse was visible from very far away, the whole area was surrounded by big dykes to prevent the sea from flooding the land so while driving on the road it was not so easy to see where the lighthouse was. I had to stop every now and then, climb on the dyke and see how close we were and which way we should drive.
Finally we arrived at a small parking were you were supposed to leave the car and walk to the lighthouse, yet there was nothing in view. But when I run to the top of the dyke I was stunned by what I saw in front of me! The lighthouse was straight ahead in the middle of some very green fields and the sky was full of those fast-moving dark clouds.
I was really lucky at that point as the rain had stopped briefly, so I ran back to the car and fetched the tripod (it was impossible to hold the camera steady with that damn wind, not even with a wide lens on) and started taking a few photos. Then I noticed at the base of the dark clouds on the far background, a grey curtain getting bigger and bigger and I knew there was some heavy rain coming. So as I had everything already set, I decided to shoot a long exposure and see what I’d get. By the end of the shot big droplets started to hit my face and eyes and I had to “evacuate” ASAP. By the time I was in the car, trying to catch my breath back, all hell had broken loose outside but I was really happy as I had got what I wanted. One of my most faves from the whole journey…___

Go on people and spread the word, it's a great cause (and a wonderful book too!)

Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Summertime

It was the 17th of August. The sun was shining all over, not a hint of a cloud on the sky, temperature was around 40oC all over the country and people were rushing to the beaches trying to cool themselves in the transparent blue waters.

Of course all these were happening in Greece, but on that day we seemed to be on a completely different planet! At the wonderful beach of Sankt Peter-Ording in northern Germany, it was extremely cold, windy and rainy, so much that for quite a long time we couldn’t even get out of the car! When we eventually did, we had to try really hard to move against the wind (or even to stand upright) and of course it was completely pointless even trying to open an umbrella, as you might end (Mary Poppins-like) in Poland or even further away…

Thankfully the rain came in and out in waves, so there were times that you had to fight only wind and cold to get a photo or two. On a moment like this, I managed to capture Manuela (or whatever you can see of her) in the middle of this majestic for me scenery.

You might think I’m a loonie but I prefer a hundred times these kind of conditions (at least as long as it doesn’t rain ALL the time) to the boring, cloudless, body-melting Greek summer…___

It was inevitable. After all these years with me, Manuela got a bit of the bug and this summer during our vacation she took quite a lot of photos. I'm only proud to say that although she knows very little about photography and despite using the crappy Panny, many of them are really good!

Seems that one of her fave subjects was me, while trying to photograph various things. Here is one that I really like, little Alex in front of the wonderful St. Bartholomä on the Königssee in southern Germany, a really great place to be! Did I shoot anything at least equally worthy to Manuela's shot?? I hope so, so stay tuned...

Cape Heraeon Full Moon

I shot this at about 1:00 in the morning of the 10th of August, under the biggest full moon of the year, the so-called Supermoon.

I did not have time to catch the moon at its rising as I did last year in Cape Sounion, so I decided that at least I could photograph some interesting moonlight scene. So together with my friend Hovanes and his lovely sister Lizet (who was kind enough to be my "timer", as my remote timer has gone bananas...) we headed for the Cape Heraeon, where after some wandering around we ended up capturing this. You can guess that the actual scene was much-much darker and it's really amazing how much the moonlight captured by the camera, looks like daylight!

The boathouse

This is my contribution to the first day of autumn, shot about a month ago, as I was lucky enough to meet an autumn scene in the middle of the summer (not so much calendar-wise but have in mind that during those days we've had 40oC in Greece...)

This is the wondeful Obersee (Upper lake) near the famous Koenigsee in south Germany. I really love this place (you can tell as this was my third time there...) and as I was walking a bit off the beaten path, I found this wonderful scenery which I definitely had to shoot. So I went back to the family and returned with the tripod and the ultra wide lens. This is what I came up with and I can say that I'm pretty pleased by the result.

I must say that from the many rooms that we've changed during our vacations all over Scotland, this one was one of the best and the view was really superb!

Lofoten in the mist

This is one of the first glimpses we’ve had of the famous Lofoten islands in Norway, as we approached them from the islet of Tranøy, back in 2010.

The Lofoten islands are full of spectacular mountains, not so much because of their sheer size (most of them are about 1000m/3000ft high) but because they’re so steep and so close to the sea that you can see the whole 1000m walls emerging vertically right in front of you.

At that day we had stayed in Como and I woke up early to see what I could capture around the lake. Found quite a lot of interesting scenes, this one is certainly among them.

Xylokastro, Greece

On Saturday we went to the coastal town of Xylokastro, about one and a half hour drive from Athens, on the Corinthian gulf, Greece, as a cousin of ours was getting married there.

There was a big party after the wedding, and we’ve all had a great time, so next morning (and having slept at about 4:00am) I definitely was not up too early. But as the others had slept even later than me and I seemed to be the only one awake, I decided to have a look at the nearby coast. The light was fantastic, with strong winds clearing the atmosphere, great clouds at the other side of the gulf and wonderful colors in the rough foreground water, so I thought these little rocks would make for a nice long exposure. And I must say that judging from the result I was not wrong. I did just some minimal processing as the scene was ready-made from the start.

Obersee Selfie

I know this may not seem a lot like the typical summer photo but it was shot on the 31st of August in Germany (northern hemisphere…) so typically it was still summer.

This is the lake Obersee (Upper lake), a small mountain lake in Bavaria, very close to the more famous Königssee and this was my third time there, something I have wanted to do for years. In fact the whole scenery is so breathtaking that I’d be happy to revisit tomorrow morning!

Despite the looks we were very lucky with the weather because a) I really like these conditions and b) it rained hard before we got there AND just after we left but it didn’t rain at all for the almost two hours we were by the lake.

Though I was very busy trying to shoot everything around I thought it would be a pity not to shoot a selfie in this most favorite place of mine. My posture is definitely not the most natural, since I had no level place to stand on. So I had to pretend to be a stork and put all my weight on one foot while trying to look like I’m standing on both… Anyway these are rather minor details, as I must say I’m quite pleased by the end result.___

Heraeon Sunset

Yesterday along with my friend Hovanes and his lovely sis (and my good assistant ;-) Lizet, we drove to Cape Heraeon, near Loutraki, Greece,  to get some moonlight photos (more on this to come).

On our way and while we drove round a bend from where you can see for the first time the whole Cape from afar, a magnificent sunset was taking place in front of us, so we didn't miss the chance to take a few photos from up there.

A welcomed bonus by mother nature!

Fyropotamos, Milos

Another photo of one of my favorite small fishing villages in MIlos island, Greece.

The decayed door in the foreground belongs to one of these Milos-trademark houses called "syrmata", used by the fishermen to store their boats in the winter time. Don't be fooled by the almost still water seen here, the sea can get very rough at these places...

The decayed door in the foreground belongs to one of these Milos-trademark houses called "syrmata", used by the fishermen to store their boats in the winter time. Don't be fooled by the almost still water seen here, the sea can get very rough at these places...

Tsigrado, Milos

These are the wonderful emerald waters of the Tsigrado beach (actually the one right next to it) in the Greek island of Milos.

So far this summer I'm too busy to go to the sea (or shoot any photos of it) so seeing everyone posting summer photos, I decided to post one from last year.

Thankfully summer is still young, so I hope I'll manage to have a swim or two in a place like this...

Plathiena beach, Milos

I have been way too busy lately and haven't been to the sea at all this year, so I thought I might post a photo of our first swim from last year...

This was shot at the wonderful beach of Plathiena in Milos island, Greece, during the Easter holidays. Usually I'm not swimming until the weather is really hot, but even though it was just the first days of May, the sea and the whole place was so inviting that I could not resist taking a dive or ten...
