Gregory, since you posted what you're doing to fund your prepping, I'll post what I'm doing. The added bonus of this website for me is that it will fund our prepping. The main reason for doing it is to take a statement about the fact that we as a society and individuals within it are OVERTAKEN. Thanks for adding me! I live in DC and will be stuck here should anything happen. I use an electric wheelchair for mobility but am able to walk a little. My husband and I are trying to develop a strategy for self preservation and protection. All thoughts/insights are welcome as I am also trying to gather resources & such for other people with disabilities.

Hello, Everyone! 

Lucy Doxie & I have an amazing opportunity to go to Florida to campaign for Allen West, a true American hero, during the last week before the election. The campaign will pay for my hotel and food but I have to get myself there. Because my wheelchair always gets damaged when I fly, I will be taking the train from DC to Palm Beach. It is also  cheaper than flying. If you are willing/able to help, I'd so appreciate it.  I figured out that if everyone I email gives me $5, that will reach my goal in no time at all. I'll happily provide autographed campaign swag (a bumper sticker) to anyone who contributes. 

Right now, I have enough to get a basic ticket, but if I upgrade to a sleeping berth, I will be able to lay down during parts of the 23 hour trip. Upgrading will also cover my meals which would otherwise cost a minimum of $15/each.

So, we had a major storm in DC overnight. We woke up to no internet, no cable and no land line. Land line is now working spottily but no cable or internet still. Much of DC is without power, too. At least we have that. I have, however, been out in the 110 heat for two hours looking for some place open for business to work with the following three criteria: a w/c accessible table with a working plug nearby, internet access, and electricity. Apparently much of DC is without some variation of these three. I ended up at the DC public library and they tried to run me out because of Lucy Doxie. Apparently they've never heard of anyone who uses a service dog for any other reason besides vision impairment. Since I am under a tight deadline, I find myself cranky and royally hacked off. UGH.

I don’t have a picture to go with this story, but it’s a story worth telling. So, get a drink, get comfortable and let me tell you about my bus ride home.

In 2009, I lived in downtown Seattle. I rode the bus to work each day and then back. Public transportation is REAL interesting depending on when you get on it. At business times, it’s all suits and skirts going to work. Dolled up people making impressions, decisions and making the world go round. If you leave a little earlier the busses are empty and if you leave a little later you get to meet people of differing backgrounds, professions and mindsets.

I have seen everything on the public transportation. The buses in downtown Seattle are free during the day so the breadth of people that make use of the system is wide and diverse. Construction workers, city workers, dock workers, crazy people, homelesspeopl... more »
