In preparation for 2014-04-08, the day Microsoft will stop support for Windows XP. the city of Munich plans to distribute free CDs with Ubuntu Linux via the city libraries and other places. First impressions of FirefoxOS on the Geeksphone KEON:

Hardware:

Impressive build quality. The Keon feels good, looks good, works good. It is the low end device with "just" the basics.  But it gets those basics right. And compared to a few years ago, look what we get as basics: A nice and fast device with GPS, Bluetooth, Micro-SD card slot, movement sensors, WLAN, it's all there! And battery time actually seems to be quite decent so far. That's quite a package for 100 €. 

OS/Software:

I like FFOS. It is quite polished in its current state (using the 2.0.0-prerelase nightly build from 2013-06-17 ATM) with some rough edges that I expected to have. It's a developer device, not made for general use. But it works 95%. They got a lot right. A bit of iOS, a bit of Android and a bit of WebOS. The graphic design is a bit, well, Jony Ive-ish. So ATTAC notices that most of the money that was sent to Greece ends up at banks and not at the people. Geez. That's how "bailing out" is defined. They make new debts to pay old debts. With the "good" thing that the new debts are socialized and the old debts are privatized. Banks get payed, people get austerity. Yep, that's how it works.

The net effect of austerity in Greece so far is a RISE in debt, it has NOT been lowered. So austerity simply doesn't solve the problem. Time to stop letting people suffer for what banks did wrong.

I am sorry to have to interrupt once again my usual science related posts this Sunday... but I am stunned and deeply disturbed by this photo of police arresting a medical doctor in Istanbul, Turkey for helping Turkish protestors injured by the police violence!

Medical doctors are under the Hippocratic Oath to help anyone in need for their health, which is protected by the Declaration of Geneva by General Assembly of World Medical Association and the United Nations  ... I am proud of the courage of these Turkish doctors and truly ashamed by the egregious human rights violations by prime minister Erdogan's government.

I am a bit negative and philosophical ATM. Dangerous. Reading Mark Blyth "Austerity" combined with what +Georg Zoche wrote on his book "Clash Of Currencies" and what I see and hear about #PRISM and Bitcoin leads me to dangerous conclusions.

Fiat money, in its current state of being backed by governments and thus ultimately by us, the people, causes us, the people, to be made responsible for what few did wrong. They know we will pay. That's why they can continue to ruin us. And that's why Bitcoin is a risk to them. And that's why suddenly all governments and those that serve "The System", including journalists, start to attack it. 

That's why Too Big To {Fail, Bail, Jail} ultimately leads to us, the people, questioning the authority of those that claim to govern us for our own good. Because we, the people, start to notice that we arer... more »

Call me paranoid, but a fleet of Loons above my head, owned and managed by Google, gives me the creeps. What if they are equipped with high-res cameras? Able to connect my location (via my mobile phone) with a live stream of what I do? And pull in the data of all those that surround me? Is that worth cheap wireless connections?
