I had a very interesting conversation with a couple of amputees yesterday regarding prosthetics that attach to bone. The human/machine gap is getting narrower by the day.

The New Google+ interface (includes HINTS AND TIPS)

I thought I would write up a few changes, observations and hints and tips you may find of use.

This now looks very similar across all devices. So whether you are using Chrome or Android (or iOS) you will find usuality and style to be almost the same.
I will focus on Google Chrome as this is where most of the changes have been, and forgive me for any errors/omissions as I am still working it all through...

Site structure:

The side bar of options for e.g. profile, communities, ‘what’s hot’ etc, is now a hover activated one.
The top bar of e.g. for a profile options for ‘about’ are now at the top of the page instead of being underneath the ‘cover photo’

Google+ Search is hidden at the top until you need itTip: even more... more »

As soon as I get home I'm going to sit down and try to figure out all the new things Google has added and give it a fair chance instead of just complaining. My biggest concern when any site adds new features that affect the way strangers interact with more reclusive/selective people is when they make the defaults work in the favor of those who wish to connect with you. BY DEFAULT - I should not receive notification emails of every event that transpires on my profile. Nor should every new feature that contains personal info or the ability to invite one to do something be accessible outside of those you've already given access to. When you first sign up, everything should be limited to your friends and you have to go out of your way to make your phone number and email public. Hey, Google+, we have to talk.

I don't mind the new layout so much, especially since it at least partially fixes the whole #whitespace  issue you had.

But I really really mind bad font rendering. And you've done something absolutely horrible to the font you use. And I can't seem to find the setting to fix it.

It looks like you are using a WOFF Roboto font. Which isn't horrible in theory, because the Roboto font isn't necessarily ugly. But whatever you are doing to render it should be illegal and counted as a crime against humanity.

Seriously, that's some nasty sh*t. This is the fuzziest font I have ever seen.

Maybe it's the WOFF rasterizer in Chrome that could suck dead baby donkeys through a straw?

Maybe it's that you scale the font size to be "resolution independent". Maybe you tested it on... more »

The Gap called because they find it suspicious that one woman would order 14 of the exact same shirt at once. The representative asked "What are these being used for?" My response was "Wearing". Then I went on to explain that I hate fashion and shopping so I order everything at once and have been wearing the same "Favorite Tee" for years because the Tall size doesn't require a BBW to fit correctly. Unless we're going to start employing surgeons and engineers without any formal training, I really don't think it's a good idea to discourage people from pursuing higher education. I think college is one of those times where you get out of it what you put into it. Just because a lot of people party and scrape by with the bare minimum in requirements doesn't warrant the rule that college is a waste of time for everyone. I went out of my way to get the most out of my college experience and it paid off handsomely and landed me great opportunities I could have never gotten on my own without the skills I learned. Aim higher, not lower. Work harder and don't blame others. Be in control of your education. Or, if you're too smart for college, start a business.

Awesome New Google Maps Interface

Google is about to launch a new interface for Google Maps. The update will remove the sidebar and will display everything on top of the full-screen map. One of the new features lets you restrict local search results to places recommended by top reviews or your Google+ circles.
