It had to be the Oystercatcher this week! Among the sounds of spring nothing can compete with the Oystercatcher when it starts the fight for territory, and play for potential spouses. But when the evening sun is slipping beneath the horizon the Oystercatcher couple relaxes and shows that this is our ground, and generally enjoys the last of rays of sunlight.

Det måtte blir tjelden denne gangen! Det er ikke mange vårlyder som kan konkurrere med lyden av tjelden, når den setter i gang med å definere sine territoriegrenser og spill for potensielle partnere. Men når kveldssola er i ferd med å skli ned under horisonten nyter gjerne paret de siste restene av kveldslyset - i sin egen sommerresidens.

Spring entangelment After last week's indoor photo (http://goo.gl/jRrCc), it's time to get out in the spring again! The snow is melting further into the forest for each day, and trails are getting walkable with only light footwear. And scenes I haven't had access to for many months suddenly pops out again from the snow cover. How many dinosaur heads can you see here?

Vårvirrvarr Etter forrige ukes innedørsfoto er det på tide å komme seg ut i våren igjen! Snøen har smeltet innover i skogen, og stiene begynner å bli gangbare med "småsko". Og da dukker det opp motiver man ikke har hatt tilgang til på mange måneder. Hvor mange dinosaurhoder finner du i bildet?

Spring is finally here! In the south-facing deciduous wood the snow have melted away, and water is surging down previously frozen creeks. In steep terrain it finds it's way under old, mossy trees and between stones worn round by numerous spring thaws. Although spring came late this year, it was all more joy when it finally turned up :-)

Så kom den da endelig; våren! I de sørvendte løvskogliene har all snøen smeltet vekk, og vannet fosser friskt nedover tidligere islagte bekkefar. I bratte skråninger finner det veien under gamle, mosegrodde nedfallstrær og mellom små og store steiner som er slitt runde av talløse, tidligere vårløsninger. Selv om våren kom seint, ble det desto mer vårglede da den endelig innfant seg :-)

Fotoprosjekt 52:2013 - Uke 14 / Week 15

A "fembøring" longboat from Fosen Folk High School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_high_school) coming in to Brekstad port at Ørland (http://goo.gl/maps/0N44G). The vessel was discovered mid-fjord (about 5 km east of Brekstad) moving westward out the Trondheim Fjord. In relatively strong wind it only took a few minutes before the boat was in the harbor at Brekstad!
The crew were volunteers practicing (http://goo.gl/StXK9) before sailing the Dragon Harold Fairhair (http://goo.gl/h8oy0) in spring 2013.

En fembøring fra Fosen folkehøgskole kommer inn til Brekstad havn på Ørland. Båten ble oppdaget midtfjords (ca. 5 km øst for Brekstad) på vei utover Trondheimsfjorden. I den relativt gode vinden tok det bare noen minutter før båten var inne ved havna på Brekstad!

Shrubs and bushes dividing arable fields, or along ditches and streams, is one of the most important habitats for our farmland birds. Here they find food and cover, and of course nesting habitat. Among our Norwegian songbirds which prefer hedgreows are Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Great Tit and Yellowhammer. Also Corncrakes and Skylarks, two species which have felt the impact of agriculture intensification, will also benefit from the maintenance and expansion of these oases in our rural areas.

Busker og kratt mellom forskjellige åkrer, eller langs grøfter og bekker, er en av de viktigste biotopene for fuglene i åkerlandskapet. Noen ganger kan man stå overfor noe som kan se ut som et uoverkommelig hinder. Nærmer man seg  med nysgjerrig forsiktighet kan det kanskje hende at hinderet egentlig bare er et annet landskap.

Sometimes you may face something that might look like an insurmountable obstacle. If you approach it with curious caution it may be that it turns out to be just a different landscape.

Tonight we had fairly visible #AuroraBorealis  over #Trondheim , in Mid- #Norway ! Not the most spectacular of  #auroras , compared to what you'll find in Northern Norway, but more than enough to get out and catch a few images of it :-)

Old pine and the Milky Way / Gammel furu og Melkeveien

Last week I finally got my wide angle lens (a Tokina 11-16mm Pro DX, if you'd like to know). First, as a start, I'm trying to capture the night sky, and here you find one of my first attempts. Usable, but there's clearly room for improvement ;-)

Forrige uke fikk jeg endelig prøvd min nye vidvinkel-zoom (Tokina 11-16mm Pro DX, hvis du lurer) til fotografering av stjernehimmelen. Er spesielt interessert i å få til Melkeveien. Her er et av de første forsøkene. Brukbart, men det er rom for forbedringer, ser jeg :-)
