This shot took forever... and I did have to hop a fence to get into this spot! I honestly think I was in the "DO NOT ENTER WATERFALL AREA". My tripod was in the water to get this and it's a 93 second long exposure. I was merely experimenting through MANY trials and errors to get this. 

Pretty happy with it though in the end!

The Three Mermaids

While I was in Thailand two years ago, I was lucky enough to be at BLES - an elephant sanctuary in the north. 

These three elephants were amazing friends and spent more time in the pool than the other 8 elephants combined. Their love for one another was palpable and I personally feel blessed I was able to spend a week there at this amazing place.

Well Canadians, be prepared to receive mail from the Conservatives attacking the Liberal's new leader, Justin Trudeau. Whether you believe he's ready to lead a country (if voted in) is honestly beside the point in this post - because the PC's are using OUR tax dollars for the attack ads.

Government House Leader, Peter Van Loan, defends this decision to simply inform us about "contrasting aspects of leadership" that we have available.

The Italian title translates to 'Love is a Wonderful Defect'. Reviews have been great and apparently it's selling well all over the world!

The yellow banner says 'topped the charts a few days after release. An incredible debut!'

I still can't believe it's real. I'm absolutely thrilled!

What kind of shooter are you? When I first started, I was just hoping to get a good shot. Since I started with HDR, I knew a tripod was a must. But composition was a VERY distant thought process for me. If it looked good - shoot! 

Now... with a couple of years experience, advice received, critiques pointed out, critiscism from all over, articles read & many, MANY well-intentioned but horribly sounding comments like "your camera takes great photos!", I feel like I've grown as a photographer. 

I wish I was forced to read this article when I started. I know I'll review this more often and pay attention more. +PetaPixel has a great article here that I all suggest you read. I know the worst thing I could do is be arrogant and assume I know all of this just because I've read it before.

The Milky Way, A Meteor, And A Cabin Walk Into A Bar - Mt. Shasta, CA

On Saturday, +Joe Azure +Natalia Stone +Casey McCallister and +Eric Leslie drove up to Mount Shasta to look for a cool place to photograph the annual Lyrid Meteor Shower. We stumbled upon this awesome little spot, where we could easily photograph the Milky Way and Mt. Shasta in the same frame....but we had to wait until 3:50AM when the moon set. I took a number of exposures, but this one had the best meteor trail out of all of them. Another weekend of 40+ hours without sleep...but it was all worth it (Minus the curious horses knocking over our timelapse rigs at 3:00AM)

And yes, this is my very first photo of the Milky Way. What was I waiting for?

Let's go a little abstract today: The winter ascend to a mountain near the Gotthard pass in Switzerland leads to a frozen lake at approx. 2'600m / 8585 ft, directly beneath a glacier. I really like those mountain lakes in wintertime as they offer a field of generally unspoiled snow in an otherwise rough and rocky environment.

What attracted me most about this lake was the frozen snow waves. Formed entirely by steady winds, they add perfectly to the banks of this lake. I've chosen a rather narrow view here to work out the shadows and the light on these waves and to follow the lines they offered.

Beautiful Koh Phi Phi

I beefed up this photo from two years back using one of +Casey McCallister's awesome collection of vintage presets. Check out his site today today to take advantage of an awesome deal he has.

This was taken at 1/400s, F5.6, ISO64 on a Kodak Easyshare. It was my first dslr and I had no idea what I was doing with it. Thankfully some of my shots were usable - even if they were all jpegs!

I guess I learned a little bit since 2011...

A Face Full of Character

This lady is one of the reasons why I love to shoot portraits in third world countries. Her face has SO much character. For those selected to join +Kate Siobhan Havercroft & +Michael Bonocore in Peru for +The Giving Lens coming up in May '13, you're going to see a lot of wonderful people that look just like her. 

Suggestion: if you want to do portraits of people, bring a macro lens. You'll have such sharp photos of people from all around. 

For her trouble I gave her a $1 - and that was the only time she smiled

Life In Venice - Italy

Taken from the top of the Rialto bridge. You can stand here and see life in Venice go by. You can see the expensive restaurants to the right, the Wedding photo session going on at the bottom left pier and the water bus go by. Venice it's beautiful.
