Thomas Hawk6,146,1772500 Kick Ass Google+ Photographers (part 3 of 5)This is the fifth time I've shared my photographer's circle on Google+.  I'm going to share it in 5 posts.  Last week I shared last name A-Da, and Da-Ho.  Today's , part 3 of 5, today, represents Ho-Mi.  I'll share the remaining two tomorrow and Thursday.  I originally shared my photographers circle at 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 photographers.  I'll probably share it again eventually when it gets to 3,000.A few notes about this circle. The criteria that I look for (and don't always get right) in this circle is that the photographer produce interesting and engaging photography.  I also look for people who are active in the community, post mostly their own work, and post regularly.  I'm looking more for people who post their own work and less of the noise stuff (gifs, links, non-photography, promotions, etc.).  I also like people who are positive, friendly, nice, helpful, etc. and dislike people who are mean, snarky, jerks, disrespectful, etc.I have a pretty well known bias against signatures and watermarks.  You will see very few photographers in my circles who use them.  I really hate the watermark debate and would rather not have it with folks.  I just don't like them -- it's my circle that I have to look at.  There are likely a few folks in here who use them who are friends of mine, but for the most part, this is a pretty watermark free circle.  It's totally cool if you love your watermark, it's just not something I really want to look at.  Please don't hate me for my aesthetic preference.  Finally, the photography community on Google+ is probably the best one on the internet today.  There is no way that I can possibly include all of the fine photographers worth following on G+.  There are wayyyyy too many.  These are just 2,500 that I personally have noticed.  I'm sure I left out some really amazing ones -- like you if you are not in this circle :)  I'll probably also totally kick myself when I realize that I accidentally left out a really obvious good one who may even be a friend of mine -- again, maybe even like you.  :)Stay tuned for parts 4 and 5 and thanks again to all of the great photographers on G+ who make this place such a delight to hang out.Part 1-5:  http://goo.gl/17ujpnPart 2-5:  http://goo.gl/3vn0OC*Note, Google Circles are terribly wonky.  It wouldn't let me add some photographers in my circle into these circles because of "domain errors."  If this affected you, sorry about that.2013-09-03 18:49:364857231117CC G+

Or, I had a senior moment and missed them.  I thought I had avoided that this time but I still managed to miss +Magnus Ericson should should be around 454. I noticed some interesting things when compiling this circle.  There are a lot of people that moved into the top 500 that abandoned G+ for some reason or their interaction has become one post a month.  I have also noticed that many of the photographers in this group have a lower follower count than they had 6 weeks to 8 weeks ago.  I'm not sure what conclusion can be drawn from this but I find it very curious. To view the lists please see the following links.001 to 080: http://goo.gl/mmr7w  4'431'409 - 55771081 to 160: http://goo.gl/mXuup  55368 - 37454161 to 240: http://goo.gl/rLmy1  37343 - 30457241 to 320: http://goo.gl/o06Hy  30131 -25785321 to 390: http://goo.gl/747Lf  25760 -23013390 to 450: http://goo.gl/xDc2D  23006 - 21347450 to 510: http://goo.gl/sEnac  21321 - 194402013-02-23 23:33:1450013641100CC G+

Jeff Sullivan1,152,722Most-Followed 500 Photographers CircleWhile a circle like this has the obvious drawback of missing some excellent photographers newer to the site, Charles often follows up his Top 500 Most Followed Photographer circle with circles going all the way down to photographers with less than 5000 contacts.  Here are four circles Charles has created to help us discover and recognize photographers at all levels within the G+ community:Under 5000 -    Under 7500 -    Under 15,000 - 500 Most Followed Photographers - (here)I like to interact with people who are active in photography... share at least a photo or two of their own original work per week, so I'll slowly whittle the circle down to a stream of excellent photography (I've started, but may not finish for a few weeks).---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+Charles Lupica  Charles Lupica Dec 25, 2012 (edited)  -  Public►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄         Top 500 most followed photographers list                   circle of 500             and Group 6: 421 to 500►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄If you're not in this circle and you think you should be, I'm sorry.  I have missed a few people by pure accident.  My methods are entirely manual and I do miss people.  I have checked every profile and I have included only those people that share their own work, and share it on G+. Bloggers and people doing mostly reshares weren't included. Some big name photographers that don't share a lot of their own work were included - sorry for the double standard. Here is the 6th and last part  of my list of the top 500 most followed photographers - Here are links to the previous parts of the list.Group 1: http://tinyurl.com/cf58vws - 1 to 100Group 2: http://tinyurl.com/bodaspk - 101 to 193Group 3: http://tinyurl.com/bsb87u4 - 194 to 250 and circleGroup 4: http://tinyurl.com/d4ulv6q  - 250 to 340Group 5: http://tinyurl.com/cjpmgy4 - 341 to 420 Group 6: 421 to 500 and circle of 500 (this post)If you are on this list, I urge you to comment, plus and share the post. I have sifted through lots of pages and circles as well as http://circlecount.com/  to try to get an accurate list. If I'm missing anyone, please let me know.  I have specifically left off a few people who only share links to their content housed elsewhere,  people who share a lot of other people's work without sharing their own, or people that appear to be inactive. The rank numbers are off by 1 because I included the same person twice in an earlier list.#Top500CircleDec   #circleshare   #circlesharing   #sharedcircles   #sharedpubliccircles  420 +Jennifer Luzio 21797421 +Matt Suess 21794422 +2013-01-07 15:33:25500221451CC G+

Thomas Hawk2,473,6682,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 2 of 4 (Ev-La)Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev) here:  http://goo.gl/Z333gThis is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle.  I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers.  I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit.  Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle.  Today is the second circle and includes photographers with the last name's Ev-La. A few notes about these circles.  I always get hated on when I share them by people.  Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out.  This is not intentional or personal.  This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world.  It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer.  This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work.  In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc.  Many of these people are or have become my friends.  Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know.  They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends.  :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too.  This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day.  My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours.  This is ok.  Art is subjective.  That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1.  I like people who are active on G+.  If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle.  I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2.  I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs.  I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle.  Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle.  I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream.  I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation.  I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3.  *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks.  You will find photographers in my circle that use them.  It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule.  I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible.  I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures.  I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them.  Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue.  It's just a personal preference and bias.4.  I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members.  I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc.  If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you.  I'm fine with debate and disagreement.  It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior.  Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably block you too.  I want to surround myself with positive uplifting people. 5.  I like people who directly post t2012-06-05 16:20:03500151110311CC G+

Robert Scoble1,236,665500 Hand Picked Photographers. Unfortunately only 500 people can be shared (I have 617 in this circle). I also am near my maximum of 5,000 circled (Google keeps me from circling more) so it's tough to add more, but I'm always looking to see more great photography, so if you aren't in this circle, leave your URL below so we can all check you out.By the way, I need to go through all my circles and look for inactive people again. It's been a while since I did that. If I were you I'd throw these 500 into a temporary circle, watch it for a while and move the ones you like into a circle of your own.Thank you to those of you who bring beauty into our lives. Everytime I need some inspiration I look to this circle.2012-04-22 18:03:4850014653148CC G+

Kevin Dunseath0I was recently asked if G+ had fizzled- a question that gets asked a lot, and I answered that for me, it's done nothing of the sort. I think it all comes down to who you have circled, so I'm going to do what I have never done before, and that's share a circle. Here's my one of my photography circles. The people in here range from people everyone has heard of, to a few maybe fewer people have. From street photography to HDR, from Scottish landscape to rock and roll portrait. From tips and techniques, to gear, and everything in between. These people keep my stream bubbling with images so fantastic, that the concept of G+ fizzling has never once entered my mind. Enjoy!2012-03-24 10:21:48225312CC G+

Don´t try too hard to follow any rules you may be uncomfortable with, just go out there, open your eyes and have fun.Oh, and as I´ve only said it twice today here´s another HAPPY ST. Thomas Hawk277,019So the last few days I've been redoing my circles with the goal of resharing my Kick Ass Photographers Circle when it hit 1,000 photographers. Today it hit 1,000 for the first time and so I thought I'd share them. Because a circle can only have 500 people in it, I've broken this circle up into 2 circles by last name, A-K http://goo.gl/7HVMN and L-Z http://goo.gl/EO0O2.The people in these circles are some of the highest quality photographers on G+ today. Many of them are also my personal friends and people that I've known in some cases for years. Some of them are people that I don't know at all, but I just really admire their work. Anytime one attempts to share a list like this, there is inevitably a bit of negative backlash. It would be impossible to put every great photographer on Google+ on this list. Please keep in mind that if we are friends and I missed you on this list, it is not personal. Staying on top of tons of contacts isn't easy and I'm only human. If you were on this list before and are not now, also please do not take offense. I spent a great deal of time scrubbing this list this time around and was much more strict with the criteria for inclusion. I basically was looking for high quality active G+ photographers who post mostly their own work, who post without watermarks or signatures, and who interact in the community. Not everyone in this list meets this criteria, but 98% of you do.Also, if you're not on this list it may be that I simply don't know you. We haven't met in real life. We haven't interacted online. You may be an amazing photographer but our paths just have not had a good chance to cross in a meaningful way yet. Here's to meeting many more of you kick ass photographers in the future. This is the list that I browse most often on G+. It's where I go to find my daily dose of great photography. I'm sharing it because I think that you too might like some of the photography that is being published by these photographers. Thank you to every photographer not just on this list, but on G+ as a whole for making our daily lives a little more interesting and beautiful with the great images that you generously share.Thomas Hawk shared a circle with you.2011-10-26 20:13:44500190154165CC G+

Robert Scoble160,405Photography Circle, A-MI'm sharing my entire photography circle tonight for the first time (I had to split it into two parts so you can see it all, because Google only lets me share 500 people in one circle). More than 500 photographers. I've tried to keep it to only active photographers and only folks who post high-quality images. As with all my circles, these are a work in progress. If you are missing from them, please let me know. Also, if you see people who aren't active (in other words, who haven't posted in the past month) or who aren't high enough quality to keep in here, feel free to drop me a line at scobleizer@gmail.com or leave a comment here and I'll reevaluate. Thomas Hawk141,162Let's try this again. Earlier this morning I shared my Kick Ass Photographers list. The list only included 250 of the 400+ people on this list and so I felt bad when people that were in this circle were left out. Circles were borked for me for part of this morning, but I think I have them working again and so I split this list into 2 organized by your first name. So if your first name starts with A-K, you'll be in this list. If your first name starts with L-Z you'll be in the other list.NOTE: I'm very unorganized and I just KNOW I've left some really good people off these circles and I'm sorry in advance. Especially if we're friends and know each other, please know it wasn't intentional, I'm just unorganized sometimes. Thanks!Thomas Hawk shared a circle with you.2011-09-27 20:42:5624910457119CC G+
Kyle Harvison0Here is my "Photographers" circle! The sharing option re-appeared :D In it is +Trey Ratcliff (My favorite, he inspired me to get into photography! I love his shots, and HDR photos, I wish I could be 1/4 as good as he is!), +Robert Scoble (I love how much he uses Google+, always interesting to see what he has to say and his opinions. He's a great photographer and an all around great guy!) and +Thomas Hawk (Another awesome one, takes interesting but creative shots), and many more! *Where all good things are wild and free!*

6 January
Goa is a melting pot of rich history and culture. Angela learns the art of going with the flow, reveling in the freedom of riding on a Royal Enfield from village to village and cruising in a vintage convertible with the most celebrated Goan fashion designer to see the sights. She explores what makes Goa such a tourist hot spot through its art and music, discovering Goan trance music and Goan fusion which includes the modern use of the traditional sitar. After a few “back bends” by the sea, Angela’s trip ends at the Anjuna beachside market, where she takes in the amazing sunset.

*And, anything is possible...* >:)

It's 2014!!!! Which means IT'S ABOUT TIME I did a call out to the crew, the editors, the fixers, the production and behind the scenes peeps, from creative-side to programming, to marketing/communication and ALL other folks in every department, of course, those we have featured and some who we did not (but loved anyway), all the people who made filming possible - including a most efficient chai walla (actually we had two or three chai wallas when we filmed in India!!) - who have made "Beach Life" happen... THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Hoping to honor your time by sending a dedication out there for your efforts. We did it!!! Just a joy to be able to share it and may we all feel rewarded by its warm reception on the TV waves... GOOD VIBES, all around...

Here's a RECAP of my top beaches for Bali. For Bali, I really had to go with my own instinct of what I personally loved most (since there are so many fantastic beaches there for you to take your pick!**) - these are the ones that made an impression on me:

1. Taman Sari Resort Beach: I'm so glad I made the trek up to Taman Sari... it may be a wee bit out of the way but it'll be well worth your effort just to see and experience the Bio-Rock project in person. Apart from the Coral Goddess, there's a whole collection of sculptures that make up the living exhibit for the avid diver. You can also sponsor a baby coral which makes the trip even more meaningful - having your name there makes such a difference, sort of like taking responsibility to care for the ocean once you've signed your name to it... you know what I mean?

2. Balangan Beach: Beginners, come ye, come all... more »

ali, you made me miss you there, you did!!! I almost whisked myself away again just thinking of you - for all your magic and beauty, for the sacredness you infuse into the everyday - thank you, Bali-the-beautiful. You're gorgeous inside and out, both the people and the place reminds you that every moment should be seized... you can be ecstatic, be enlightened, surf the luminiferous ether... I've now keenly felt it as "Island of the Gods". Cannot recommend it enough, especially as a space to create - for you, the seasoned nomad, Bali might just serve as a seasonal home for you... <3

In the spiritual land of Bali, Angela learns that every aspect of life can be an offering, whether she’s surfing the ocean’s waves or tasting the best organic produce. The Balinese have a deep respect for all living things and she discovers this when she joins the procession of one of the island’s biggest festivals, Kuningan. In the spiritual land of Bali, Angela learns that every aspect of life can be an offering, whether she’s surfing the ocean’s waves, tasting the best organic produce or dancing freely. The Balinese have a deep respect for all living things and she discovers this when she joins the procession of one of the island’s biggest festivals, Kuningan. Here, Angela also indulges her curiosity by visiting the coral goddess who sits serenely in an underwater garden.

Three cheers for this spunky, sporty, spirit-filled island in the sun!! This water is so blue it must've inspired the water blue. The island folk are always singing, dancing and celebrating the island life!!! #TLCBeachLife LOVED ALL OF THE BELOW, in no particular order then...

1. Dragon Boating with the Bum Shells: Besides it being a double entendre that’s flirty and playful (had me checking out the rear ends of my lovely teammates, oppsies!), Dragon Boating is a team sport that'll have you roaring with RA-RA spirit!! You absolutely MUST meet "Tootsie" (Maria Ronnholm), who is pretty much the matriarch of the sport on the island. https://www.facebook.com/boracaybumshells

Mabuhay!!! RECAP of my top beaches list for Boracay, The Philippines!!

1. White Beach: Look no further... this is where you'll find the miracle bright white, coral sand I spoke of... placid waters make for easy peasy SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) if that's your thing, or just chillaxing before the night's debauch on the same strip... sip, sup and party till sunrise here. It's all here. Everyone and everything is brimming with energy around here. Soak it in...

2. Bulagbog Beach: The other side of the island, also known as the water sports mecca for kitesurfing and of course, where I got to windsurf with Legend of the Wind, Nenette (she's like Philippine's own "Lee Lai Shan")... once you take lessons from her, you won't look back... you'll love riding the wind!! Wind-powered sports are the future. Make no mistake of that!!

Thanks for a wild ride, Boracay!!! I'm totally adopting the Red Pirate's motto "Sail Fast Live Slow”... I found it scrawled onto a sign made with driftwood, hung over their leafy abode, dreamcatchers and palms over top. It's where they wait for sunset cocktails and drumming on White Beach, after they’ve had their fill of Paraw sailing for the day. What a beautiful place... The Philippines. A visual feast: pristine water, powder-white sand, smiles all around... I'd say it's their carefree, sun-chasing "Can Do" (Kan Do!!) attitude to life that's got me hooked most... #TLCBeachLife #AngelaKan

Are you ready???

23 December

Angela is off to the beautiful island of Boracay, known for its white sand beaches and pristine turquoise waters, where she gets some local perspectives about beach life. After a morning trip out on the Paraw (the local sail boat), she gets a wind surfing lesson from a surfing champion who provides her with an appreciation for harnessing nature and sustainability. Angela gets inked by the island’s best tattoo artist and chills out with the “it girl” who exudes glamour of a different kind. She learns the “pancake” move from the island’s hippest Frisbee team and paddles her way to the finish line at the Boracay Dragon Boat Festival where a sumptuous seafood feast awaits.

See you very soon!!!

Press from TODAY (SG) - Thanks, guys!!! Here's a peek:

Q: As a host of a travel show, how do you connect with the people you come in contact with?

A: As a host and, well, even just as a human being, I’m always looking for a deeper connection with people on the whole. It’s very important: human beings are social animals and we crave connection. As a photographer, writer, or host you may have some tricks for people, children, and animals to warm up to you – like asking open-ended questions, body language that’s non-threatening, and gifting works too. All in all, nothing works better than eye contact and a genuine intention to connect and have an exchange. A real smile also melts any distrust. Just be real.

Here, I'm making my way back to White Beach by way of the sea on a Paraw - AHOY, PIRATES!!!

Just a quickie recap - my top beaches list for Cairns, Australia!!!

1. Palm Cove Beach: sometimes you need a staple... and this one's a go-to... it will not fail you. For me it served as landing beach strip for my skydiving antics. You'll be surrounded by the Daintree Tropical Rainforest and it's right by the Daintree National Park. Just gorgeous...

2. Green Island: for Great Barrier Reef lovers, this one's a true gem - flying over a heli I got to see it's beauty - layers of azure, turquoise, deep blues... blending into emerald greens... this island is where you can get intimate with the underwater world... go for a helmet dive like me, as a aquanaut! But do be careful of the coral, my beach darlings.

Someone asked me about Cairns, and I was thinking of an analogy to capture everything I saw there. And you know what? I would liken Cairns... to the sand you find there...

When you magnify it a few hundred times, and look at it... it’s not this homogenous beige-y stuff you see... but coral fragments of every colour, tiny specks of a bazillion shell types, all sorts of microscopic wonders... it is beauty in diversity. Diversity is a key theme.

Cairns is hotbed to tropical fish aplenty, so apart from Nemo I got to see this tremendous diversity under the sea which is what makes it so 'great'. What a chance of a lifetime, to dive into the Great Barrier Reef as an aquanaut. It profoundly affected the way I see the sea.

Seeing Cairns from all angles now, above and below the sea, it speaks a wider truth about our interconnectedness: that this earth, our biosphere, theec... more »

Good news for the Great Barrier Reef! The Marine Park Authority have delayed their decision on whether to allow dumping of dredge spoil inside the Reef's World Heritage area.

Not only does this mean our Reef will be just a little safer over Christmas, the delay is a sure sign that decision-makers are feeling the pressure from the community to make the right decision for the future on the Reef. We've made ourselves heard!

Thanks to everyone who's been a part of this campaign so far - this week alone, 9469 GetUp members emailed the Great Barrier Marine Park Authority urging them to make the right call.

Now, we've got forty days to keep up the pressure. Stay tuned for more on that soon! Click here to thank the Reef Authority for delaying the decision, and urge them to reject the proposal for good:
