Thomas Hawk6,164,4602,500 Kick Ass Google+ Photographers (part 5 of 5)This is the fifth time I've shared my photographer's circle on Google+.  I'm going to share it in 5 posts.  Thus far, I've shared last name A-Da, Da-Ho, Ho-Mi and Mi-Sh.  Today's , part 5 of 5, represents Sh-Z. I originally shared my photographers circle at 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 photographers.  I'll probably share it again eventually when it gets to 3,000.A few notes about this circle. The criteria that I look for (and don't always get right) in this circle is that the photographer produce interesting and engaging photography.  I also look for people who are active in the community, post mostly their own work, and post regularly.  I'm looking more for people who post their own work and less of the noise stuff (gifs, links, non-photography, promotions, etc.).  I also like people who are positive, friendly, nice, helpful, etc. and dislike people who are mean, snarky, jerks, disrespectful, etc.I have a pretty well known bias against signatures and watermarks.  You will see very few photographers in my circles who use them.  I really hate the watermark debate and would rather not have it with folks.  I just don't like them -- it's my circle that I have to look at.  There are likely a few folks in here who use them who are friends of mine, but for the most part, this is a pretty watermark free circle.  It's totally cool if you love your watermark, it's just not something I really want to look at.  Please don't hate me for my aesthetic preference.  Finally, the photography community on Google+ is probably the best one on the internet today.  There is no way that I can possibly include all of the fine photographers worth following on G+.  There are wayyyyy too many.  These are just 2,500 that I personally have noticed.  I'm sure I left out some really amazing ones -- like you if you are not in this circle :)  I'll probably also totally kick myself when I realize that I accidentally left out a really obvious good one who may even be a friend of mine -- again, maybe even like you.  :)Stay tuned for part 5 and thanks again to all of the great photographers on G+ who make this place such a delight to hang out.Part 1-5:  http://goo.gl/17ujpnPart 2-5:  http://goo.gl/3vn0OCPart 3-5:  http://goo.gl/lyVn6fPart 4-5:  http://goo.gl/Tq9HCO*Note, Google Circles are terribly wonky.  It wouldn't let me add some photographers in my circle into these circles because of "domain errors."  If this affected you, sorry about that.2013-09-05 16:07:314714429109

Max Huijgen41,136Europe calling: the old giant wakes up and calls on its peeps! A new circle of Europeans as I promised long ago to connect the people who responded and share them. See for the first shared circle this post https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/PDUi13o9dB1The original post was shared 225 times. You can find it here:https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/CdhmHGbYjgiPart 2 is still open and can be found here:https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/NDAhG4fP2a7If you didn´t do so already, post there and as long as I have spots free, I will circle you as I want to see my streams come alive during European hours. There was a shared feeling that it would be great to get some attention from G+ for Europe with official hangouts from the community managers during European times, feature roll-outs from Google no longer restricted to the US, having some central point to share European circles and last but not least the desire to have hangouts without having to burn the midnight oil. To help solve this and get Europeans together on the same page I created +Europeans on G+  It already has multiple managers out of the community and that initiative recently span off +European Photo  but feel to offer a bit of your time for this community project. Circle the page if you didn´t already do so. We need more peeps from all over Europe to participate and enjoy G+I hope these posts can do the rounds through Europe and gets us firmly on the G+ map. So even if you´re not European yourself, but sympathize with the initiatives to form a community here, help spread the word and share it.And don´t forget: we all love the other continents and most of us have circles which encompass the whole world. So it´s not against others, but pro us :)2013-03-15 15:05:14291532076

Peter From42,747The AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHERS' FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE Circle#CircleSharingForThePeopleAPCG1   Here is the circle with all the amazing photographer's from all around our globe. If you want some excellent photography in your feed, then make sure that you add this circle. There are lots of new talented people in this revised and validated version.I am proud to promote each and every one of them!Want to join the APCG? Then Read ALL of the following before you ask for inclusion...Who can join?Everybody. You must have a feed that focuses on your own photography though. This is a validated quality circle and I am quite picky when I add people to it. Don't take it personally if I don't add you the first time around. What must you do?As with all my circles, there are no free rides. Here are the rules (steps you must take) to get accepted:1) –– Plus AND reshare this post. Why? It's very simple: if you want to get promoted in the APCG, you must be prepared to promote your fellow photographer as well. Important: Do NOT remove the reshared circle post from your feed immediately after I have added you to the circle. Doing so will get you banned from all my future circle shares for ever.2) –– Make sure that you do NOT post a lot of YouTube clips, animated GIF's, blog post teasers etc. in your feed. I don't mind a few reshares of other people's work but you must mainly share your own original work on your page. I want this circle to be as clean as possible and focus on quality photography –– not other bling-bling. 3) –– Ask for inclusion in the comments and please state which kind of photography you are into and that you HAVE completed all steps. I will check every feed. If you don't complete this step, I will not add you to the circle.Have something to say about my circles? Wanna know what others gained from being in the circles? Thomas Hawk2,494,0652,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 4 of 4 (Ro-Z)Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev) here:  http://goo.gl/Z333gPart 2 of 4 (Ev-La) here:  http://goo.gl/dX7lRPart 3 of 4 (La-Ro) here:  http://goo.gl/MP1Q2This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle.  I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers.  I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit.  Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle.  Today is the fourth circle and includes photographers with the last name's Ro-Z. A few notes about these circles.  I always get hated on when I share them by people.  Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out.  This is not intentional or personal.  This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world.  It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer.  This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work.  In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc.  Many of these people are or have become my friends.  Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know.  They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends.  :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too.  This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day.  My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours.  This is ok.  Art is subjective.  That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1.  I like people who are active on G+.  If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle.  I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2.  I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs.  I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle.  Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle.  I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream.  I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation.  I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3.  *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks.  You will find photographers in my circle that use them.  It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule.  I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible.  I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures.  I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them.  Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue.  It's just a personal preference and bias.4.  I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members.  I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc.  If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you.  I'm fine with debate and disagreement.  It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior.  Not only will you not be in this circle if you2012-06-07 14:58:20499189204457

Max Huijgen24,852Europe calling: the old giant wakes up and calls on its peeps! Part IIAccording to the latest figures 426.9 million Europeans now use the InternetThere is a is feeling that it would be great to get some attention from G+ for Europe with official hangouts from the community managers during European times, feature roll-outs from Google no longer restricted to the US, and last but not least the desire to have hangouts and interaction without having to burn the midnight oil. To help solve this and get Europeans together on the same page I created +Europeans on G+  It already has four managers out of the community but feel to offer a bit of your time if you want to contribute. Circle the page if you didn´t already do so. I also organized a "I will circle you" project. If people commented that they came from Europe I would circle them instead of the other way. The intention was to share this circle back to the community and the first circle of 500 went out. You can find them here https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/PDUi13o9dB1Now as promised it´s time for round 2: 300 people and a few European pages. Some very well known, some relatively unknown, but all certified active posters from Europe who will spice up your streams during European hours.Check them out and please share the circle as the intention is to get much more Europeans united!if you were left out while you signed up: my excuses as it´s a tedious job to manage all these circles. Peter From35,781The Photoshoppers & Lightroomers Circle –– Validated & Revised Version #CircleSharingForThePeoplePLC2 The time has come to reshare my validated and revised Photoshoppers & Lightroomers Circle (PLC) with 500 excellent artists that produce great imagery, compositions, tips etc. You don't want to miss this one. I am proud to promote these great people and I am sure they will bring lots and lots of great and interesting stuff to your feeds. If YOU want to hop on the next PLC train, do the following:1. Help spread the word and reshare this circle post. Why? If you think you should be promoted, you should be willing to do the same for your fellow artists. Simple as that.2. Ask for inclusion in the comments. I will check every feed.3. Make sure that you share your own original artwork in your feed. If there are too many reshares of other peoples' work, irrelevant YouTube clips, animated GIFS, blog post teasers etc., I might not add you to the circle. The PLC is a validated quality circle that should bring people great imagery to their feeds.NOTE! If you see that I have plussed your comment, then you know that I have added you to the next revision of the PLC. I didn't PLUS your comment? Make sure that you have reshared this circle post and let me know that you did so.HOW TO AVOID FLOODING OF THIS POST IN YOUR FEED:This post is hash-tagged with #CircleSharingForThePeoplePLC2 so that you may mute the reshares this post will generate. That way you will avoid seeing multiple copies of this post in your feed and your adrenaline level will stay normal. I will add a new hash-tag for every announcement and circle post. That way you won't miss out on any of the action but still can mute all the duplicate reshares. Here is an excellent add-on that will help you to mute the reshares: http://code.google.com/p/nonplus/Cheers!2012-05-21 09:36:07500102106121

Trever McGhee7,731There's someone for everyone to follow in this circle, +Charles Lupica +Margaret Tompkins +Manuel Votta spent three days going through 537 recommendation of photographers to find the best people 365..one for every day of the year.Your best bet is to add the circle follow the stream for a couple of day's and then keep the ones that put a smile on your face, the ones that work for you, then return the rest to stream for another time. That's the greatest thing about Google.. it's for ever changing for the better and so are the amazing people on here. It's quite extraordinary to see some peoples posts today compared to when they first joined._______________________________________________________+Charles Lupica originally shared this post:▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ Hidden Treasure: 360 talented photographers to discover    a fully validated circle of photographers         15'000 followers or fewer▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄360 photographers plus myself and a couple of relevant pages.Validation processThis circle has been validated to the max. Peter From31,163The Upcoming Stars Circle –– Updated Version +Circle Share Well, it's noon Monday CET and it's time to share the validated and updated version of my popular USC. It contains 325 excellent photographers on their way up here on Google+. They all have less than 7500 followers but deserve a lot more than they already have. It's a privilege to promote these wonderful artists. So, check out this circle or add it to your own circles ad hoc –– you won't be disappointed.Do YOU want to be included in the next edition of the USC? Well, if you have less than 7500 followers and are willing to reshare this post in your feed, drop me a line in the comments below and I'll check your stream out. If you have enough decent original work in your feed, I'll add you. No resahre, no inclusion –– no exceptions. (As always with my validated circles.)Why do I want you to reshare this post? Because I believe in sharing and resharing. If you want to be shared –– the least you can do is to help promote the rest of the great photographers by resharing the circle post. If you are not happy with that, I respect that. But don't ask to be included. :)Cheers and #happymonday everybody!PS! If YOU have a circle you want to promote, go to the +Circle Share page and leave a comment on the top post.NOTE! UPDATE! The next USC update reshare will be done in co-operation with my friend +Charles Lupica.2012-04-23 10:29:35325252192135
Jerry Johnson5,061────────────────────────────────────          Monochrome Monday       ──────         Circle L-Z for 16 April      ──────              "thank you"           ──────────────────────────────────── • Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for participating in #monochromemonday ! • There was a very good turn out this week with over 900 people taking part! :-)• We include those who post MCM photos AND those who comment on them, because we believe that the interactions between people is a huge component of what makes this theme so special!NEW• Starting this week, we will share some of the best images contributed this week from the +Monochrome Monday page. So even if you don't add this circle, since Google+ requires users to circle a Page before that Page can share their posts, please be sure to add the Page so that we can include your image if/when we select it. Images that have more than a certain number of pluses (To be determined) will be added to the gallery almost without question. The curators of the theme will also pick images to add regardless of the number of pluses. This way, everyone will have a chance of being shown in the "gallery". The gallery shares will generally take place on Thursday or Friday.Hopefully the circle includes everyone that contributed to Monochrome Monday this week, but experience says we missed some. Everyone is important to the success of the theme and we apologize if we missed you.+Charles Lupica +Hans Berendsen +Jerry Johnson +Monochrome Monday and our newest curator +Manuel Votta would like to thank you for joining us this week. See you next week!!If we missed you we're sorry. Please let us know in the comments and I will try to make sure that you are included next week.Note: We want to be up front and transparent as your curators. Many of the people in this circle received a "notification" that we added them to our circles. This is a temporary circle that we have to create based on the tools available to us on this platform to build our circles, and please know that we can't keep everyone in the long term. We will keep people that have circled us as long as we can, but we may need to eventually drop some of the people that added us. #circleshare #sharedcircles +Best Shared Circle ◊◊◊◊2012-04-18 18:00:13468421037
Warren Brooks0A Photoshop/Lightroom circle for anybody interested in getting their social skills on. There should be plenty of inspiration in here.If YOU want to be included in the next reshare of this circle, just do the following: 1) Leave a comment below, 2) reshare this post to spread the word and thus help promote the great people in this circle. And... As always: no reshare, no inclusion –– NO exceptions... Of course, I want to find some quality original content in your feed as well if you want in. If you do not wish to be in the circle, let me know and I will remove you asap.If you already are included in this circle you don't have to reshare this post if you do not wish to do so. I won't throw you out... :) But if you want to reshare anyway, it's much appreciated.Due to some controversy regarding my way of circle sharing, I want to clarify why I want you to reshare this post. To me Google+ is all about sharing and resharing, i.e. promoting yourself and others and NOT feeling bad about it. The more we spread the circle posts, the more people will be able to see YOUR work as well as the work of the other circle members. If you don't like that, fine, I respect that, but that's the way it works in my feed. If it disturbs you, feel free to uncircle me and/or block me, I will respect that too. With that said, enjoy this circle and feel free to ask for an inclusion. Also check out my new page Circle Sharing For The People: +Circle Share.Cheers!2012-04-16 10:22:11233100

I think you will find some very interesting persons and images in this validated circle. If YOU want to be included in the next reshare of this circle, just do the following: 1) Leave a comment below, 2) reshare this post to spread the word and thus help promote the great people in this circle. And... As always: no reshare, no inclusion –– NO exceptions... Of course, I want to find some quality original content in your feed as well if you want in. Don't bother to ask for an inclusion if you only post YouTube videos and/or do reshares. If you do not wish to be in the circle, let me know and I will remove you asap.If you already are included in this circle you don't have to reshare this post if you do not wish to do so. Trever McGhee6,436You just never know who you'll discover until you circle them. There's someone for everyone to follow in this incredible circle of people & pages. Especially +Candace Regan whose my better half who makes me look good :-) She wasn't feeling well yesterday, she's been putting in 20 hr days lately working on our projects to help others for free, so I thought I'd surprise her today with a few new followers, she loves to engage with people. Just like others in this group of people who are waiting to follow you, they love to engage with people, while others are hoping for the opportunity to inspire you with their posts. For me, that's what it's all about, helping one another find the right people to connect to.The greatest thing about Google is you can add and delete as many circles as you want. So put this circle to the test, check out the Stream for a week, keep those who you like and return the rest to the grid. You can always add them again later on when the time is right for you. I guarantee you, you'll find more than one :-)That's why I included +J.J. Bentley circle of 190 "Rising G+ Superstars" Their amazing photographers with less than 10,000 followers, that are rising to the top because of the extraordinary work they do :-) Please add & share this circle ~ to share these extraordinary people,If you would like to be added, please leave a comment. #BeHappy #Friends #Share #circleshare #circlecount #publiccircle #sharedcircle If you have a favorite photo/artwork/story that we should consider for our book & show that were producing this fall, so that we can continue to help people for free, then post it on the public stream and include the #hashtag #Take2seconds and mention my name +Trever McGhee or +Candace Regan so that we can comment on it. If the photo/artwork/story follows the Google guidelines, it is family friendly and we have the artist's permission, we'll include it in the DVD portion that goes with the book. Everyone can take part in it, all you need is one plus which can be your own :-). As to whether or not your photo/artwork/story makes it into the book and/or the reality show will be determined by the largest number of pluses/shares.More details on the projects and how we'll raise 97 million will be released on Apr 22 :-)2012-04-12 15:11:29471841634
Ted Ward0Circle Sunday - #eveplus CircleI hope everyone enjoyed watching or if you where lucky enough to attend being at fanfest. It was nice to finally see some proper Dust514 footage and some information about the game that will interact with our universe. Although not as much info as I'm sure we all wanted. This is my shared circle of the most active G+ users that play eve online. For more info about the circle and how I create it, you can find my original post about it here ( http://goo.gl/FBCnP ). #eveonline #tweetfleet2012-03-25 22:35:3574012
Ted Ward0Circle Sunday - #eveplus CircleWow it's Sunday already, man that week went quickly. In this weekly share of the circle I have added two people, +Matthew Garnett-Frizelle & +Johan Deknudt. These guys asked to be included within the circle as I previously had them different circles which where not eve online based. So if any other people out there I haven't included it's probably down to my error. For more info about the circle and how I create it, you can find my original post about it here ( http://goo.gl/FBCnP ). #eveonline #tweetfleet #eveplus2012-03-18 20:20:1874400
Ted Ward343Circle Sunday - #eveplus CircleFor all that do not know I share a circle each week with the most active people (and now pages for characters) that play eve online. These people may not talk about eveonline all the time but are generally interested in eve related posts and stories about the game. Hence the name eve plus ;)This week I have gone through the whole list and removed 1 person who didn't seem to play eveonline and I think may have been included by mistake (sorry, my bad). Also removed one person who has not been active on Google+ for the last month and wasn't active with commenting etc. To update your circle to match this one, add this circle and then remove your old one. I have added a few new faces to the circle +Sardik Mainfra +Brian walters +Atsa Mor +Talkie Toaster +Jade Lostineve. I maybe mistaken but I believe the majority of posts from these people/pages will be eveonline related. For more info about the circle and how I create it, you can find my original post about it here ( http://goo.gl/FBCnP ). #eveonline #tweetfleet #eveplus2012-03-11 22:40:5672601

Ted Ward261Circle Sunday, #eveplus Circle This is my what I call my #eveplus circle. It is a group of the most active eveonline players on Google+, which I have created from my eveonline circle. One I will be updating and re-sharing every week with new additions (if required) and removing inactive's every month. There are a few circles with hundreds of eveonline players going around but this is one I have hand picked of active Google+ users who play eveonline. They may not post about eveonline all the time but make an eveonline post every so often and they are active with posting and commenting on the site, hence the name #eveplus ;)I haven't included people that only share posts 'limited' as they may not want to be followed by random people for privacy reasons. If you are someone who shares posts limited but would still like to be included that's fine just please let me know. If you not been included but are active on Google+, play eveonline and would like to be, (I've probably only just missed you or didn't realise you played eveonline) please let me know. If you wish not to be included in this circle in the future please feel free to get in contact. #eveonline #tweetfleet #eveplus2012-01-22 22:10:58591407

The Old Chapel - Lamphey Bishops Palace, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

On my visit to the Bishops Palace a few days ago I happend to find a small set of stairs that twisted up into the old ruins. So I went up there to see what I could see. This view of the old chapel greeted me at the top of the twisting and narrow stairs.

There wasn't much room for a tripod so I took this hand held HDR shot. Now looking at the image I think I should have leaned over to the right a bit more to get the chapel more central in the natural framing of stone walls. Any one have any thoughts on this?

A bit of shameless self promotion. This is my business that myself and my fiancee set up.

This print is behind perspex so has a horrible reflection on it from the camera flash but looks lovely.

Printed on semi-gloss paper

30 Years Young - Happy Birthday me!

Or should I start calling myself old now?

Last few weeks have been busy. I turned 30 and spend sometime in England. Visiting my better half's family. Although since I have been back home I have not managed to edit any new photos of my own.  I have been too busy doing editing for other people and I don't show that work without the permission from the photographer who took them.

So I'm resharing an image i shared with the HDR photography group before I left for my little trip.

Well technically its a Welsh rose but who's ever heard of a 'Welsh Rose' before?

Never taken a photo indoors and with artificial light before. I think I will have to do some more soon, maybe with some better lighting.

A Seals View
Porthclais, Wales, UK

This is a local spot in which the seals sometimes like to bathe in the sun. Unfortunately none were about so no shots of them this time round but it was very nice to get out with the camera as the last week has been very hard.

It has been long overdue but I have been finally going through my late mothers stuff. It's been hard but some lovely memories have come back to me.

Tried something different on this entry, used the wacom's brush tool to remove some of a solid black layer. It gives this kind of effect, which I may try again and try and refine the process a little.

Why I do photography?

This is a question I asked myself last night after being called "You're not a photographer" by some one who calls them self a professional and a Christian.  To answer why I started is a hard question, I started soon after my mother passed away. Why I did this was to be able to enjoy the same hobby my fiancée had enjoyed for years and bring us closer together.

After taking some photos and posting them here on G+ people would +1 my efforts and give some amazing feed back, some would even say I had a natural talent (special thanks goes to +Blake Rudis here for his wonderful guidance, help and kind words). People within the +UK Photography Community where and are so kind with helping everyone improve and accepting anyone's work not just for the image they posts but from the people that post them.

All of this made photography enjoyable, probably the only thing that I did enjoy for some time after my mother passed away.

Being a trained architect I had dreams of moving to London and working for any large architectural firm with the hopes of one day having my own architectural company. This all changed when I lost my mother, I did not want to work so hard like my father did, I never want to have to say what he did to me because he was so busy with work, the words that still upset me to this day "In a minute son". That minute seemed to never come and is the only real memory I have of my father. It took me some time to realise that I could possibly be my own boss and make my living from the hobby that I had came to love, photography.

Knowing my work was not the best in the world and making money from my own images is a pipe dream I decided to invest my inheritance in various form of printing machines to be able to print others peoples photography work at a professional level. With the hope that some day my own photography may become my main source of income but more importantly I would be based from home and be able to give my future children the love and attention they deserve.

So why do I do photography? Because life is precious and I miss my mother and if I could be half the parent she was to me I would be a good father. All the comments and +1's are great, but the hobby I have grown to love and be such a big part of my life that my mother never saw. Would I give it all up to have her see my images and have her opinion? YES!

A special thanks also goes to +Charlene Klassen, +Per Ardne +Heidi Anne Morris, +Stuart Dyckhoff, +Zebulin Magby, +Brian Scott, +Brian Dukes, +Jacqueline Horsfield, +Andy Burke, +Brent Jones, +Paul Cooper, +Louise Burrows, +Jake Gaston, +Robert Rodriguez, all of the eveonline guys (you know who you are) and all of the +UK Photography Community .

So why do I do it all? Because of her below, the best mother in the world.___

Flag of the Fallen

I went to this Church in Ludlow almost 21 years ago on a school trip. This same flag was hanging up then too and I remember being told at the time this was a flag from WW1 and was located here after the war to remember the local people who lost their lives in the trenches and battlefields.

It's the only thing that I can remember from that school trip and even if the story isn't 100% true the memory and thoughts of thanks remain the same.

The Hive - Worcester

It had been a few years since I had last been to Worcester and this building is a new addition I hadn't seen before. It is located right by the river and race course and on the site of old factory building that had been closed for ages, which is nice to see "brown field" sites being used within city boundaries.

The building seems to be multi use holding a library, cafe, local records and an IT area. Which can be used by the community and local students. Which I think is always good use of facilities.

Worcester Cathedral

Taken the day after my grandmothers funeral, although the day wasn't dark and gloomy to everyone but to me it felt like there was a dark shadow over the world that day and this is what I saw through my own eyes.

This is also the first photo I have processed this year and since being ill, took me a while to remember how to use photoshop/lightroom but after a few mistakes I soon remembered my way around.

So glad I am a new owner of a Samsung galaxy s3. Much better than the old HTC DESIRE HD and the latest version of Android. Been on gingerbread for ages.

Think it will take me a little while to get used to the key buttons. They seem a bit more spread out than what I am used to but all in all a good upgrade.

Me happy now. :)

Where have I been?

I have been away from Google+ and I haven't been very active on any social sites or life in general. People close to me will know why but for those who are not my closest friends will not know the reasons behind such a disappearance. So I feel I owe you all some sort of explanation.

Without going into to much details and giving you all a wall of text to read I will try and keep this brief.

The last few years have been life changing and it was all going to fast. Which   eventually took its toll on my health and such I become very ill and needed some time to focus on myself and my family.

It has taken me a lot longer to get back to a point in my life where I feel close to being back to "normal", I still have days where I do not feel great but this is something that will get better with time, since I am well on the way tore... more »

Under the Iron Bridge

You know when you visit a modern styled restaurant or hotel and you see them random prints of various objects shot from crazy angles? Well this is my attempt at doing one of those.

The bridge is the first Iron Bridge (the same I posted a few weeks ago). If you look closely you will see that there is a distinct lack of blots and rivets in the majority of the structure.

What have I been doing? Making my website which has been a struggle to say the least. I stopped coding almost 10years ago and that was done in ASP this time I learnt some PHP and did it that way.

I am quite happy with the KISS (keep it simple stupid) mentality of the site design and code. Makes it easier for me and allows me to continue to add more to the site as I go.

Warm Reception - Hillbark Hotel, Wirral, Merseyside, England, UK

Last week end my fiancée and I attended a lovely wedding. There was a typical chruch ceremony but this was where the reception was. This lovely period building which has been converted into a hotel was completely booked out by the wedding party and we had the place to ourselves.

Loads of complementary drinks, great food and a live band afterwards. It was a good weekend and I got to meet a load of my fiancée's family that I haven't met before.

A handheld HDR shot processed in photoshop and then I added a painted affect using a Topazlabs plugin. Trying something different and I'd be happy to here peoples thoughts on the post processing.

The First Iron Bridge - Ironbridge Gorge, Telford and Wrekin, England, UK

This is the first iron bridge ever constructed. It doesn't have any bolts or rivets in the original construction or design, as they were not invented at the time of construction and is held together using joins similar to those seen in carpentry.

The bridge opened in 1781 and was used for vehicular traffic up until 1934, when it was designated as an ancient monument. There was also a toll for crossing the bridge that carried on as late as the 1950's even though vehicular access was stopped many years before.

Tips and tricks about photoshop. I do like photoshop :)

The AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER's VIP Circle –– Announcement Post

#CircleSharingForThePeopleAPCVIP

As you all know I emptied all shared circles in order to bring some more freshness and interestingness into them again. Unfortunately I deleted the AP VIP Circle as well in the process (unintentionally of course). So I will start collecting you people into the VIP circle again.

READ the WHOLE post BEFORE you ask for inclusion.

What is the VIP circle?
It is a circle for people that are following me AND my +Photoshop Tutorials page and that wants to learn more about digital photography, editing in Photoshop, lighting set-ups, tips, tricks, tweaks and hacks and so on. On the above mentioned page I will put up posts that are only visible to people in the VIP circle, related to the equally above mentioned topics. In other words, it's a great way to improve your photographic skills and learn more from me and other members of the group.

I will share this circle with everybody on Monday, August 13.

Who can join?
Everybody. You don't need to be particularly good or bad –– as long as you have a profound interest for photography.

What must you do?

As with all my circles, there are no free rides. Here are the rules (steps you must take) to get accepted:

1) –– Add me AND the +Photoshop Tutorials page to your circles.

2) –– Plus AND reshare this post. Why? It's very simple: if you want to get all the goodies and get promoted in the original APC, you must be prepared to promote your fellow photographer as well. Do NOT remove this reshared post from your feed immediately after I have added you to the circle. Doing so will get you banned from all my future circle shares.

3) –– Make sure that you do NOT post a lot of YouTube clips, animated GIF's, blog post teasers etc. in your feed. I don't mind a few reshares of other people's work but you must mainly share your own original work on your page. I want ths VIP circle to be as clean as possible and focus on photography –– not other bling-bling.

4) –– Ask for inclusion in the comments and please state which kind of photography you are into and that you HAVE completed all steps. I will check every feed.

Have something to say about my circles? Wanna know what others gained from being in the circles? Then go here: https://plus.google.com/116219534929662479848/posts/7Evg2rSE2Hv

NOTE! If you see that I have plussed your comment, then you know that I have added you to the circle. I didn't PLUS your comment? Make sure that you have reshared this announcement post and let me know that you did so.

*This announcement post is hash-tagged with #CircleSharingForThePeopleAPCVIP so that you may mute the reshares this post will generate. That way you will avoid seeing multiple copies of this post in your feed and your adrenaline level will stay normal. I will add a new hash-tag for every announcement and circle post in the future. That way you won't miss out on any of the action but still can mute all the duplicate reshares.*

Here is an excellent add-on that will help you to mute the reshares: http://code.google.com/p/nonplus/

Cheers!___Tips and tricks about photoshop. I do like photoshop :)

This is not drinking water - Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

Sometimes I take photos just because of the history which is behind them and these are just that. Within the Bishops palace was this old store located under living quarters and in the 14th century it was used to store food for the Bishops.

Fast forward to the 20th century when US and other allied troops were located around the southern parts of Britain. The 'Bishops Palace' and the nearby country house was base to the troops while they waited for D-Day. The store was used for ammunition, oil and various other flammable materials, kept safe from any rogue bombs released from bombers on their way to or from the natural harbours of Pembroke and Milford haven.

Lamphey Bishop's Palace - Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

This was the retreat of choice for those medieval bishops seeking solace from the everyday stresses of Church and State. The medieval bishops of St Davids were worldly men who enjoyed the privileges of wealth, power and status. Lamphey did not disappoint. A palace fit for a queen…or at least the occasional bishop.

What remains is mainly the work of the dynamic Henry de Gower, the bishop of St Davids from 1328 to 1347. Thanks to his vision, elegant Lamphey became the ‘away from it all’ palace for high-ranking members of the clergy keen to play at being country gentlemen.

Lamphey’s gilded existence came to an abrupt end during the reign of King Henry VIII when many Church estates fell into the hands of the Crown.

HDR is a love or hate thing and I love it. The main reason is because of the post processing of the photos but I see more and more HDR shots that do not seem to be post processed after creating the original HDR image from the bracketed images.

How much one processes the image is personal taste but you must take care with the sky (which can be to dark or have "noise")  and keep a look out for un-natural dark or light spots. Which is common in a lot of HDR shots.

If people want to know more about how I do my HDR processing let me know and I may even do a video or tutorial in the future. :)

Green Green Grass

The grass always looks greener the other side of the fence, that is until you get there and realise its not so much better after all. Don't always be wanting more, sometimes you should be happy with what you've got.

This is one event that I look forward to every month!

If you have been following me for a while you will know that each month I take part in a HDR concert hosted by +Blake Rudis on his site www.everydayhdr.com

Each month is different with the guides which are set last month was compositing an something into the set of raws given and this month it was different again. We were asked to extract the brackets from the one raw our selves. You can check my entry out second from the bottom and not one of the images looks the same, great effort by everyone once again.

HDR Concert #6

Another successful HDR Concert for the blog.  So glad these collaborations kick off successfully and that people really enjoy them.  The most rewarding part is seeing how others take the image(s) and turn them into works of HDR art and progress their skills over the course of multiple concerts.

Thanks everyone!

My fiancée took a photo, it's good that she is getting back into photography after all I got into it because of her.

A few months ago, my fiancé invested in a 7D... and I fell out of love with photography. My 350D was pathetic compared to the 7D. I waited as patiently as I could for "my turn" but I soon found I was becoming bored with waiting for the boy to set up his shots. (HDR's take ruddy ages to set-up...)
So, after persuading me that it was a good idea, my fiancé got me my own 7D body; and a pretty nifty telescopic lens to go with it (https://plus.google.com/108304483085935112804).
With the sun finally coming out, nicely coinciding with start of my 6 weeks holiday, we went out. Here's one of the better shots from today. I might have had some help with the post processing ;) +UK Photography Community ___My fiancée took a photo, it's good that she is getting back into photography after all I got into it because of her.

Harvest - HDR Concert

This was done as part of a HDR concert hosted by +Blake Rudis on his website (www.everydayhdr.com). The task for the concert last month was something completely new for me, compositing. We where given the task to composite something from our own shots/photos into the set of brackets and I added a castle.

Thankfully +Blake Rudis had already done a tutorial on his site on how to do the basics of compositing and that was a great help. I fiddled around with cutting out the castle, editing the shape of it and had to add the lighting and shade on it as well.

I was quite impressed with my own results and I surprised myself in the process too. Yet another great HDR concert and I'm looking forward to the next one, which should be announced sometime to day I believe.

Converting my garage in to a studio/workspace.

Taken longer than expect and cost about twice as much as planned but it will be a nice spot to work from.

This is the competition I am running in memory of my mother. This is the first year of what will become an annual competition. Next year will be even bigger!

FREE CANVAS PRINTS COMPETITION

You may or may not know but I hosted a competition to win a free canvas print of your own photo. Original post here http://goo.gl/1vCwV

Due to me having my graduation and I have not been able to promote the competition for the last week, so I have decided to allow one more week for entries, for anyone who may have missed or forgot about the final deadline.

The competition is extended till the 18th of July.

I have decided to make this an annual competition in memory of my late mother who died from deep vein thrombosis, which she got from regularly travelling a 300 mile round trip to visit and care for her parents. Unaware of the dangers such long distance travelling can cause. She suddenly became ill and complications in her treatment resulted in the clots moving from her leg to the heart which caused several strokes and she later passed away a few days later, she was only 54.

She did this trip every couple of weeks while working a 40 hour week as a cover supervisor in a local high school and also studying humanities for a part time degree course. From now on this competition will be known as 'Kaleidoscope Eyes' Photography Competition the name I got from The Beatles song 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds', which was one of my late mothers favourite songs.

Please read the original post & feel free to enter. The more the better. Please feel free to share this competition with others, if I can raise awareness to such a condition then I will be more than happy.

Just giving it a test drive. The new Sigma 150-500mm + 2x tele converter make the 7D almost look small!

I called my College/University as graduation is on Friday but I haven't had my results for my Architectural Technology Degree.

After being passed round a few departments on the phone call I eventually got to my tutor who dragged out the conversation for what seemed like hours but he eventually told me that I.....

(drum roll)

PASSED!!!

I am now Ted Ward Bsc (Bachelor of Science) and I'm so happy!

Coincidently I got a letter from the Student loans company last week.... I owe them £22,500 give or take a few hundred. 22 grand for 3 little letters after my name.. Worth it :)

My first ever Google+ post was just under a year ago, first posted on 1st of July last year. Quite a bit has changed since then, a lot in my personal life. I think we can safely say G+ is much more sucessful than Google Wave ever was and I don't think I have posted on facebook for almost a year.

Long live Google+.

It's been one hell of a ride and I know it hasn't even really begun to get started yet.

Wolfscastle Rock - Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

Part of an old fault line known as the 'Pwll Strodur Fault', which separates Cambrian sandstones (to the west) from Ordovician slates (to the east). These rocks are around 500 million years old and formed from sediments deposited on an ancient sea bed located near the South Pole, moved to their present location through continental drift.

Car trouble when I don't even drive?

Well my sister left this morning to go back to her house and work this afternoon. I went back to bed. An hour or so after I went back to bed I got a phone call off my sister, but I didn't get to the phone in time. I thought to myself "this can't be good, it takes her 4hours to get home" and it wasn't!

She had broken down on the M4 and her breakdown cover had run out! So I gave her my bank details over the phone to pay for her break down cover in the hope the man could get it started on the side of the road, he couldn't.

We then find out that the cover only takes the car to a local garage. The car can't be fixed today something about some timing belt and needs a few days to be fixed, which leaves my sister stuck in the back end of Wales with no money and no car.

As I can not drive the only thing I can do is throw money at the situation in the hope that it will solve the problem and that is what I did. I told my sister to give me her bank details and I will pay for the work on the car and give her some money to cover her for the next few days.

After a quick phone call to the bank to transfer some money, which she should get within the next few hours, problem should be solved right? I hope so!___

There be Metal in them Hills - Cleddau Estuary, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

Years ago tin, copper, coal, slate and iron was mined out of many coastal areas in Pembrokeshire. These activities have long since stopped but they didn't mine it all.

A handheld HDR image from 3 exposures ranging from -2 to +2. Edited the raws in Lightroom, made the hdr within Photomatix and processed with Photoshop.
