Due to a mechanical problem with our plane and high winds in Spokane, we were at risk of not making sunset on our first night in The Palouse.  Luckily we were provided a different plane and we arrived at Steptoe Butte with plenty of time to spare.  That first night was really hazy, but it helped to create those layers you often see from the Smoky Mountains.

'The Archive'

This was an accidental find; I was asked to photograph the exteriors of a building and while I was scouting for the most gratifying angle, I found this hidden, yet incredibly photogenic place.
It's a narrow gap between the building's glazing and its outer shader skin which is supported by an elaborate grid of pillars. White dots in the distance are found at the 44th floor where the open to the sky. That's exactly 154 meters from where I was standing.
My hope was to capture the claustrophobic atmosphere of this very futuristic looking void which looked like a set of 'The Matrix'. I also wanted to communicate the immensity of this space while maintaining the overbearing density of the support columns in the way I experienced them.

Look what I stumbled upon in the rain. This was taken during a downpour but it was my last night in Tokyo and I traveled from Kamakura to find it! I'm surprised it came out. I was fortunate to go to a friends after and dry off with a mouthwatering home cooked meal complete with Choya she had personally been making for 8 years and cracked open for us that night! Double success!

The Ruins of Christchurch, two years after the earthquakes.

I've been in Christchurch, New Zealand for about a week now.  It's been about two years since the most recent quake that sadly ruined a big chunk of the of the city.  It is ABSOLUTELY SURREAL to walk around the downtown area, much of which has been cordoned off in a post-apocalyptic zombie-like scene.  There are ruins still all over downtown, but there are new businesses, restaurants, hotels, and the like mixed in.  There's even a cool new shopping mall that's been built out of shipping containers. I don't even know how to describe everything here...    I'll post some more photos soon.
