Here's what you'll need to know about this theme:

-- Use the hashtag #FloralFriday and/or tag +FloralFriday on your photo.

When Mashable starts using this new kind of sharing you know Google+ is becoming popular.
Just in case it's not very clear, when you click on the view button this is what happens. Whenever you share a Mashable article to Google+ your name will now be added to the page you shared to your circles.

In 10 days I am headed back to the Circle. I go there to see what our future is. I'll be in China for two weeks. May 30, 31 I'll be hiking some parts of the Great Wall that I haven't seen. I could use a hiking partner who speaks better Mandarin than me.

"The Qualcomm Tricorder X Prize will give $10m (£6.5m) to the developer of a wireless hand-held device that monitors and diagnoses health conditions. Its sponsors, the X-Prize Foundation, a US charity, and Qualcomm, a US telecommunications technology firm, were inspired by the tricorder - a hi-tech sensor used by the characters in Star Trek, the science fiction television serial."

...two-and-a-half year old Hannah Warren just became the youngest person in history to receive a bioengineered organ transplant, a new windpipe made of a synthetic scaffold and her own stem cells. The nine-hour long procedure was performed April 9th, at Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, but the results were just made public. Doctors expect that Warren will be able to return home in a few months and breathe, eat, drink and swallow using the new windpipe, all of which she couldn't do without the aid of machines until now.

This piece brought tears to my eyes.  It is beautifully written, and oh so true. It's amazing how American good will can be so badly misspent by those in power.

This piece matches the stories I heard from Clare Lockhart, co-author with Ashraf Ghani, of the book Fixing Failed States, and founder of the Institute for State Effectiveness http://www.effectivestates.org/, which has a methodology for making sure that aid money goes to the people who actually need it.

But I digress. This piece is about the bundles of cash that go to Hamid Karzai, and how it ought to be spent.  If you read only one thing today, let it be this.

The State and the Innovation Economy

Bill Janeway's perspective on the relationship between government and technology innovation is far from mainstream these days, but despite all the horror stories about government we like to tell each other, it is largely correct.  In this interview, he responds to Peter Thiel on the subject.

I'm a huge fan of Bill's book, Doing Capitalism In the Innovation Economy. You should read it. http://www.amazon.com/Doing-Capitalism-Innovation-Economy-Speculation/dp/1107031257

For additional perspective on how government investment created the entire computer industry, read George Dyson's Turing's Cathedral, and also contemplate such government boondoggles as weather satellites, TCP/IP, GPS, and the Human Genome Project, and ask yourself where we might be without those investments.

Why is everyone working so hard? All these startups, going 1,000 mph, where are they headed? If you are working in a tech company, what are you working for? What is your dream?

I asked this question to 100 people working for tech companies within a one-block radius of Wired's office in SF for the 20th Anniversary Issue.

Our answers are here: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2013/04/dreams/
