I now think the British are right about one thing: Punctuation marks that aren't part of a quotation should live outside the quotation mark. It's just more sensible and consistent. BUT! That's the only thing they're right about that I can think of.

Yes, Google+ is Google's answer to Facebook, but not in the directly competitive sense many journalists assume. Google+ is core to Google's mission "to organize the world's information", and that's a better frame for thinking about this service.

I May Have Lost The Battle
But I'm still around to fight the war!
I have not been online too much over the last few days but there is good reason for that. I'm currently sending this from my iPhone on a bed in a psychiatric hospital!
I have struggled with depression on and of for what seems like most of my life and I have fought to try and have some form of normality but at times I lose the fight, this being one of those times and I have to stand up and ask for help. I consider myself one of the more fortunate people
In that I have a family that both understands and supports me at times such as this. My wife more than anyone else, she puts up with a lot others simply could not. Just to put a little perspective on what Albert Pujols means, and why he might be worth a quarter-billion dollar contract, here's a chart I've been fairly obsessively keeping on him during his career. It shows his sOPS+ set against the league average. That's essentially his power and contact combined, shown as a percentage versus the average.
He lives above 50% better than the average MLB hitter. He's had ONE month out of an 11-year career when he was below average (just 5%), and that followed an insanely productive month when he was basically hitting like 2.6 men. This year, his "worst," still ended up being pretty great.
Sustained, consistent excellence. Thanks for the show, buddy. I don't know if I'll be keeping the chart up anymore, though ...

I love Storify - and it has been great for tracking journalist arrests at Ocupy events - but sometimes you just need a simple list.
This is a spreadsheet of the journalist arrests - easy to read, and still a striking and troubling statement on freedom of the press in America today.

The fact that Jimmy Fallon is in a banking commercial that will no doubt repeat hundreds of times during the +MLB playoffs is a particular curse toward Cardinal fans. We'll never forget him smooching Drew Barrymore, to advertise for some rom-com, on the Busch Stadium infield right after the Sox won in 2004. Desecration.
