+Planetary Resources is trying to raise money to launch a telescope into space which anyone can control. The company behind it is in Bellevue, which is a 20 minute drive from me, and its founders include former NASA engineers who worked on Mars Curiosity team. The idea is for around 25 bucks (or more if you want fancier rewards) you can get your photo in space.

If you donate $25 to their Kickstarter, you get to upload a photo to the telescope and then take a "selfie" posing in front of the earth. I donated the maximum amount, $10,000, which means I get to have a message engraved on the side of the telescope, attend the rocket launch, AND I get to NAME A FREAKIN' ASTEROID. They've got 11 days left to meet their goal, and if this project is successfully funded, I'm going to let you guys vote on the name.

So, this guy I work with, +Eric Sachs, worries about passwords and accounts and security all day every day and has for years. He talks really super fast and tends to overrun just about anyone’s input buffers.

I got him set up in front of a camera and quizzed him about hot stuff in identity and passwords and so on, with a hard 15-minute time limit. If you watch it, he’ll probably overrun your input once or twice, but you’ll learn a whole lot about the practicalities of getting out of the password biz, which is something you should be starting to work on now. Also, there’s a nifty demo of some stuff we’ve been working on.

Can we predict the next bubble?

Interesting TED talk by Didier Sornette - who says that it is possible to identify bubbles and predict financial crashes ahead of time. He presents several instances from the past where he did so. Of course, this is the exact opposite of the Black Swan theory of Nassim Taleb - who claims that all models are flawed and incapable of predicting catastrophic events.
And incidentally, Sornette predicts that the next crash is imminent...

So the Cat Lady has been feeding the neighbourhood cats, and subsequently fox, for years. Thirteen that I know of. But she knows some people don't like her doing it so she pretends not to like the fox, not to be feeding it. Last night while the neighbours were out and about she was in her driveway saying "Go away now" and shooing to little guy away. He must have been thinking "But you LOVE me!". He followed her right up to her doorstep. Then he ran behind her house and came back out trotting like the happiest fox you've ever seen with two COOKED hotdogs in his mouth! Hahah- He was so cute - and just trotting along, ZIP a Dee do dah! He trotted right past me, looked up all smug and said "Wazzup?"

Josh A. Cassada, Ph. D., 39, is originally from White Bear Lake, Minn. Cassada is a former naval aviator who holds an undergraduate degree from Albion College, and advanced degrees from the University of Rochester, N.Y. Cassada is a physicist by training and currently is serving as co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for Quantum Opus.

Victor J. Glover, 37, Lt. Commander, U.S. Navy, hails from Pomona, Calif., and Prosper, Texas. He is an F/A-18 pilot and graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. Glover holds degrees from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Air University and Naval Postgraduate School. He currently is serving as a Navy Legislative Fellow in the U.S. Congress.

JONATHAN CHRISTOPHER KENDALL (1962-2013)

With the greatest of sorrow I, +su ann lim , have to inform you that Jonathan Christopher Kendall, my fiancé and love of my life, died suddenly last night on 15 June 2013. Despite the incredible efforts of our friends +Suzanne Jacob +Gaynal Brierley , paramedics and ambulance personnel he could not be revived.

Jonathan lived as he believed, telling it like it is, with wit and humour, enjoying life to the hilt, with honour, directness and compassion. I was incredibly blessed to be the recipient of his immense love, and as each other's beloved, to share unbelievable happiness for too short a time. Jonathan, I LOVE YOU with all my heart and miss you desperately.
