Virtual Star Party12,001Join +Fraser Cain  +Scott Lewis  +Pamela Gay  and our team of astronomers from across the globe as we visit the furthest reaches of the Universe. Our fantastic team of hardy and dedicated astronomers will set up their scopes and journey from object to object. We might get a waxing gibbous Moon, a rising Jupiter and even some deep sky objects. We'll even take requests. Because evening arrives earlier, we're able to start earlier, so make sure you double-check the start time. You've seen this picture -- of the fluctuations in the leftover radiation from the Big Bang -- countless times if you've been hanging around me, or cosmology, for the last eight years. Come find out what this image means and what it tells us; it's a truly astonishing story!

This is really interesting:

"When the number of committed opinion holders is below 10 percent, there is no visible progress in the spread of ideas. It would literally take the amount of time comparable to the age of the universe for this size group to reach the majority," said SCNARC Director Boleslaw Szymanski, the Claire and Roland Schmitt Distinguished Professor at Rensselaer. "Once that number grows above 10 percent, the idea spreads like flame."
