"Poles, fire in the sky and all in square"

Today, another from the series of four square photos taken on same day, at the same place.  Different from the one I’ve showed yesterday, this photo is much more intensive because of red colour of the clouds. Sun was low, painting the clouds red, and all that reflected on the water. Long exposure made the water smooth and motionless, and the poles are guiding our eyes towards the horizon. Composition is simple but strong, I reckon. And square format works like a charm here. I was with friend photographer here, and I liked his composition of this place even more.  He stood couple meters to my right. And I was siting. If you’re wondering about technicalities, I was using Nikon d7000 + Sigma 10-20 + B+W 1024 ND filter, and I think I used Cokin GND S filter (3 stops).

This photo is from April, taken in Marina in Prelog, Croatia. It was end of the day, sun was setting down, but not down enough. I’ve found this little pier with interesting end. As I look at it, it makes me feel like I would grab both poles with my hands and  eject myself into lake! I’ve desaturated and cooled colours a little bit, I just felt better, with little twist, not your ordinary end of the day colours. I decided to go to square format, because I got focus on the poles, and the contrast of them and planks on the pier against silky clouds and their reflection in calm water. How do you feel about this photo?

Using ND filter I’ve photographed this tree with way longer exposure than it would require on sunny, warm spring day. Most of long exposure photos focus on water and/or sky, while I like to play with it on any motif. Tree is good as any.

It was very windy day and there aren’t much sharp details. But this is why I like it. Sharp enough to be clear, but blurry enough to make it dreamy. Colours are little of, but that is how it goes with dreams.

Rather threatening photo for this time. While riding my bike I’ve found this nice place beside the road. Road curved behind the trees that are on little hill. The weather changed rapidly as I was playing with different compositions. As I noticed those dark clouds I felt I could get more interesting photo if I used ND filter to get longer exposure. B+W 1024 ND filter helped to have 20 sec. exposure to get this notion of motion both on sky and on the trees. And there is contrast of warm sun light from left side of the photo.

If you’re wondering, no it didn’t rain at all. But it was good because I had some really nice light!

Light is all we need!

Good light, I might add! Today, I’m showing you two photos, taken from same spot, same day, on same focal length, but in different time of day. And, of course, different light.

In preparation for workshop on landscape photography my friend +Davorin Mance  and I went to scout location in Gorski Kotar area in Croatia, in small town called Skrad. More details on workshop soon, but today I want to show how changes is warmth of the light bring different feelings on same spot.

Daytime photo was taken somewhere around 9AM, sun was behind us, still not very high, but high enough to start creating harsher shadows, (you can see it behind the house)  and that is something we usually don’t want in landscape photography. Last Sunday we had some nice warm spring weather. My friend +Davorin Mance and I took the opportunity to ride our bicycles, grab a beer or two and make couple  of snaps on the lake about 15km away from our town.

I've photographed only twice in last 43 days. And to make things worse I bought my self a new camera. :( Second time was yesterday. We have a snowy/rainy season so areas that used to be marsh are partially flooded again. I got about 20 minutes of somewhat clear sky and this is all I got.
Not much, but I'm happy I photographed again. :)

It's snowing or raining constantly here I'm my part of Croatia, and I'm getting sick and tired of it. I don't believe in bad light, but I don't like to get wet so I don't photograph in such conditions.
I wanted to share a rainy photo from my county, but as I wrote, I don't get out in the rain, so I thought I'd share this summer storm photo from seaside. :)

I love landscapes but now and then it's good to change vistas. This one is from Croatia capital Zagreb, taken last summer. Church of St. Marco is in the middle, Croatian parliament is on the right, and a couple of Japanese tourist to fill the void of noon in upper town. :)

Another photo from end of the last saturday. Clouds were rushing  towards distant shore, from north to south, and it was cold. That meant that i had to ride my bike 13 kilometers in to strong north wind. I came home hungry like a wolf! :D

It's been some time since I shared a panorama with G+ world. Well, I think this one is worth of sharing. I took it last Sunday, and as I snapped last photo in panorama, packed my bag and sat on my bike, wind started blowing like crazy and torrential rain started. I had only 2 kilometers to ride to home, but I was soaking wet when I arrived home. I got to say that wasn't pleasant experience at all, but when I look at this pano, I think it's well worth it. :)
