Oh good grief, G+. That was a totally unnecessary overhaul. Too many boxes popping up and in and over and under now. Eesh.

Uh, yes, please. I am a university professor, and I have no paid parental leave and few protections for benefits, etc.

Oh, Florida. I would never do something this deliberately provocative in class (at least not until I have tenure!), but the op-ed is right: college is about exposing students to new ideas, and sometimes you have to get a little mentally-rough with them.

Blergh. 'cause it's not hard enough teaching human evolution in the Deep South. (Then again, FL doesn't have these stupid laws, and it's not like my students come to college knowing anything about evolution. Some are downright amazed at all the fossil and DNA evidence we have for human origins, and many each semester tell me I've opened their eyes -- they never got anything in school, just creationist arguments from family members and church sermons. My favorite evaluations are always the ones that say I've convinced them of the reality of human evolution and that they realize evolution can co-exist with their idea of a creator.)

Agriculture may have started in the Levant and China at the same time. Neat!

Let's review: Writing about being scared shitless of Nazis who want to torture and kill you? Totally cool. Writing one time about masturbating? BAN THE BOOK! *siiiigh*

Oddly, my daughter's favorite kids' book this week is "I'd Really Like to Eat a Child"...

Yeah, let's just do away with peer review. Fantastic idea.

My inimitable husband (and, yes, the Oracle of Bacon) was featured in BuzzFeed today!
