My mother loves to paint! For as long as I can remember she's had a paintbrush in her hand (except in this photo - she's the lady on the right). She leaves a prolific, colourful trail of fanciful imagery wherever she goes - quite literally! From children's book illustrations to 1000 ft murals, posters, paintings and hundreds upon hundreds of drawings, she makes the world around her a more beautiful place :)

Of course one can contemplate the mystery of themselves anywhere: sitting in traffic, standing at the supermarket checkout, waiting here & there. But isin't it more profound (& dare I say fun), to do so while admiring the heights of mountains, witnessing the mighty waves of the sea, fishing the broad tides of rivers, sailing the compass of the ocean, and gazing at the stars? I'd say so.

I love that Sydney keeps little pockets of bushland protected throughout the city. It's so wonderful to be able to take an afternoon walk through the trees :)

A little birdy named +Brian Matiash asked if I had any vintage photos of my Mum that I could share with the above #  this week. It just so happens I have a few! I'll post them up along with some stories to celebrate not only her, but also motherhood itself :)

Now, I'd not advise ANY person to become a parent at the tender age of 16 FULL STOP! However, I wouldn't be alive today if my mom hadn't been brave enough to do just that. Cheers to a woman who gave up the frivolities of youth to bring me into this world & then picked up her education when I was old enough to attend pre-school at the local college. 

A lot has changed since the 1970's... online & local support is now readily available & parents are more comfortable talking to teens about "it" http... more »

I finally made an effort to get out there with my camera yesterday but had much more fun capturing photos of mother nature. I love the way leaves, flowers & trees just ARE. Humans, pfft we can be so self judemental!

The Italian tradition has made it's way to Australia. That extra sparkle on the water may just be from the thousands of keys tossed into the harbour after padlocks are closed on the stone walls of Ballast Point.

My daughter has been learning about the first fleet & Capitan Cook so we headed down to La Perouse just for the fun of it yesterday.

"La Perouse was named after the French navigator Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse (1741–88), who landed on the northern shore of Botany Bay west of Bare Island in January 1788 only days after Captain Arthur Phillip and the first fleet of convicts arrived in Australia"

In it's current state the area is a strange combination of suburban life, beautiful history & ugly industrialism.
