Scott Jarvie432,136*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00143
Kelli Seeger Kim1,296,879It's @112471890387110967375 's birthday!  (okay, well - technically, it's September 7.  But @117681034834791918293 and I couldn't wait any longer!) Anyone familiar with Karen will attest to the fact that she is all about peoples' passions.  What drives them.  What's in their hearts.   What better gift to give to her, than to share with her images that we feel represent our passion/soul/heart!.  Images that truly represent who we feel we are now - or the journey we are on (or traveled), in search of personal growth.   Maybe you have an image of yours that represents a style of photography that you feel a deep connection with. Maybe you have an image that marked a moment in your life that was particularly incredible for you - that touched you in a way that is significant.   We can have a lot of fun with this theme - the most important thing is that it comes from our heart.  :-) So feel free to upload images to this event, and tag them:   #SharingOurLightWithKarenHutton  Sharing Our Light With Karen Hutton (Happy Birthday, Karen!)2012-09-07 13:00:0057

Saying goodbye is never easy. But knowing that I'll see her again helps keep the smile on my face.

One of the hidden gems of Southern California, at least in my opinion, is this little spot nestled within the Santa Monica Mountains over in Malibu. The view is quite outstanding and it looks like a scene that one wouldn’t think could be found in Southern California. With the low clouds starting to drift and and overtake the landscape like ocean waves, this might be one of the most amazing places to view the sunset anywhere in the world. I’ve taken photos of this area before, and whenever I’m there I come away with so many photographs of the scene because with the fading sun and the clouds coming in, the scene is constantly changing as time passes. For this shot I decided to photograph it in a way so that the sun was barely visible. The sunset was amazing as usual and I decided to waituntil... more »

A good friend of mine once pointed out that some support beams for the elevated expressways in Tokyo resemble horses. Now, as long as the shape is remotely similar to the one he pointed out, that's all I tend to see. Horses.

Which isn't a bad thing at all. ;-)

Throwing this in for #ThirstyThursdayPics  because contrary to semi-popular belief, it is still alive. He he.

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been fascinated with flight. To be more specific, the ability to fly. So whenever I see birds flying through the air as graceful as can be, I can't help but watch as they fly by.

I've said before that it's nice to see more and more bike lanes pop up throughout the city. But what's even better is finding more and more bike routes. Meaning that cyclists can legally take up the full lane. Gives those of us on two wheels plenty of room to stay safe and fall over every now and then. He he.

So, with the encouragement and support of my closest friends and fellow photographers, I've gone and written myself a book. It's been a fun process being able to get my thoughts on paper using both written word and some of my favorite photographs. And with a great service like +Blurb Books, it made getting my book to print and digital formats pretty simple to do.

If you'd like to read more about why I chose to put together a book or see some of the photos I chose, click through to today's blog post. Or, if you're interested in what a book of mine might read like, you can head over to Amazon for the print versions or iTunes for the digital version.

And if you do get a chance to read it, I'd love to hear from you. ;-)

"Every moment of light and dark is a miracle." -Walt Whitman

Every now and then I talk about specific locations around the Los Angeles County area. Locations that I consider to be my “go to” spots in the event of a great sunset. Spots that don’t take long to get to and that I’m familiar with which makes it easier to find myself a quick composition in case I don’t have much time to get out too far for a surprise epic sunset. The Colorado Street Bridge is one of those locations for me. So one day, while I was out with my good friend for a late lunch/early dinner, I was glad we were near one of my “go to” spots. Earlier in the day while we were hanging out, nothing seemed of interest to shoot. Earlier in the day while we were hanging out, nothing seemed of interest to shoot. The clouds had blown away leaving a mostly blue sky, and any clouds that did remain were small and not enough to make the sky pop. But when leaving the restaurant I looked up and noticed how the sky started to turn pink. I thought it was beautiful, but nothing I would be in a rush to shoot. As soon as we got into the car and started heading West back home, the sky simply lit on fire. The clouds had filled the sky and as sunset started, the sky turned into one of the more beautiful sunsets I had seen in recent months. So being that we were near the bridge, we parked nearby and walked out onto the bridge. At this point, I had my Sony A7R with me but I only had my FE 55mm f/1.8 prime lens with me. I usually travel light when I’m going out locally for a meal, but still, I almost always have a camera with me. Luckily, as wide as the bridge is, the focal length I had with me worked just fine.

In today's day and age, it seems pretty tough for a memory to get lost. But it does lead one to wonder if they're truly experiencing the moment, or if they're simply capturing it. He he.

I would type "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom" but the car in this photograph is a Ford, not a Mazda. So I'm going to quote the legendary duo of Maverick and Goose and say, "I feel the need, the need for speed!"

I’ve been having a lot of fun trying to photograph my nieces and nephews this past Summer. With the kids being out of school there’s just more opportunity to see them running around and being kids. It’s been especially fun to watch my niece Zoey this Summer. That being said, here's another image of her that I really enjoyed.

Like just about anyone with a camera in hand, I like to photograph animals. Or to be more specific, I like to try and photograph animals. So when they're just standing still, life becomes a whole lot easier for me. He he.

Spending a couple of hours in traffic to get to an amusement park was totally worth it because I was able to see just how close my niece and nephews were with each other. They're as tight a set of siblings as I've seen and I was glad to get some shots of them having fun.

If you'd like to see more photos and a short video of one of the rides, click through to my blog post.

No matter how fast the Universe may spin, my world will remain still as long as she's by my side.

One fun night out in Fossil Falls in the Sierra Nevada I was putting a couple of things to the test. First, I was finally using the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 lens through some pitch black star shooting. And second, my LED light, which is normally used during video recording, but I’ve been playing with it for some light painting. I’ve had it for a while but haven’t really needed it because of the help of a bright moon. Throughout the night, both of these tools had been working extremely well. I was getting great stars in the sky with nice, even light on my foreground subjects. But I had yet to try any star trails. It had also been quite a few months since I even shot a group of images for star trails so for my last setup, I decided to go for it. I was getting great stars in the sky with nice, even light on my foreground subjects. But I had yet to try any star trails. It had also been quite a few months since I even shot a group of images for star trails so for my last setup, I decided to go for it. I only setup my camera to shoot for about 20 to 30 minutes (which gave me 32 images) but I figured I wouldn’t need too much for the amount of trails I was going for. With my camera shooting frame after frame, I decided to walk around these rocks and light paint it from all sides. These were actually much larger and widespread than they appear in this shot, so I light painted over several frames in the front and either side of the frame. When my shoot was finished I took a look at several of the frames on the camera LCD and I initially thought that even if I didn’t get a decent group for star trails, that there were some frames that could stand out on its own. And when I finally went through these images and blended them together, I was quite pleased to get this result. And after some color corrections this is the final image I ended up with.

Fall colors are among the most vibrant natural colors that I've come to enjoy. And Japan is by far my favorite place to view them if I can time my visits there correctly. But even if I don't, it's nice to have great friends that can help find me some color.

The sunset was amazing as usual and I decided to wait until the sun was at its lowest point, barely giving me a peek at the golden light just before finally fading away for the evening. With the sun in this position, the sky was lit up quite beautifully and evenly, giving a great contrast to the cool landscape below before the clouds had completely overtaken the area. I still have yet to get up there for a prolonged amount of time for some potential star shooting, but knowing that this location is there and waiting for me is comforting and I certainly can’t wait to get back up there for another relaxing day and night among the mountains.
