I took a photo walk with +Eric Seaholm, one of the first and good Google+ friends of mine last Sunday. Our destination was Daikanyama, one of the fashionable shopping town in Tokyo. Everything looked beautiful in the late afternoon sunlight.

A Girl in the Sunset

A friend of mine and I visited Daiba Park, Tokyo a couple of weeks ago. We were waiting for the sunset there, when the rain clouds covered the sky. We gave up the idea of shooting the sunset from the park, and started walking toward the shopping area where we thought we would wait until the sky cleared up. But we were caught in the rain on the way. We had to take shelter under the eaves of the public facilities on the beach ... It was not the perfect place to hide. But we soon realized we were at the perfect spot, because we were able to see the sun setting right behind the Rainbow Bridge. It was a breathtaking view.

Lavender Field

Actually it was not a lavender field. I found them growing in the flowerbed in a park I visited during the photo walk we had in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan last weekend. I touched it and enjoyed its fragrance for a while. 

ラベンダー畑……と言いたいところだけれども、これは先週末の横浜写真散歩の途中、港の見える丘公園で見かけたラベンダーの花壇。ラベンダーの葉にさわると、あの独特の香りが指に付いて、しばしクンクン。ひどい雨を忘れることができた。

Prayer 祈り

It was drizzling when we started a photo walk in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan last Saturday. The first area we walked around was its Chinatown. We didn't expect the rain to get heavier, so we spent most of the time eating ... This double-exposure image was taken at a Chinese temple in the middle of Chinatown.

週末の土曜日に開催した横浜フォトウォーク。初めのうちは雨も弱かった。後で、雨風がひどくなるとはつゆ知らず、最初の訪問エリアとなった中華街では、ほとんどの時間を食べて過ごしたのだった。これは数少ない中から選んだ、横浜中華街関帝廟で撮影した一枚。二重露光。

We had a photo walk in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan this weekend. Because of the heavy rain, it was very hard to take pictures (we had to protect our cameras, you know). Still, I was so happy to meet more than 50 Google+ photographers! We will have to visit the city on a fine day again soon.

土曜日に写真散歩を開催。あいにくの雨。それも大雨で、思うように写真を撮ることができなくて残念だったけれども、50人以上のグーグルプラス・フォトグラファーたちに会うことができて、とても楽しかった。でも、天気のよい日に、またみんなで横浜を訪れたい。

The Setting Sun in the Middle

When I reached this spot, the setting sun was just there. I hurriedly set my camera and tripod and capture this view. I'm glad I didn't miss the timing.

A Life in Focus Live Event featuring Brian Matiash (May 9, 2013)

Photography camera bag manufactuer, f-stop is doing a series of episodes showing the lives and shooting lifestyles of a selection of the staff pro team, called "Life in Focus."

It's second episode which will be aired on May 10, and it will feature a landscape photographer, +Brian Matiash, who is Community Manager for Google+ Photos. And this episode will be broadcast as a live G+ hangout, followed by a Q&A with Brian, fellow f-stop staff pro +Colby Brown, series cinematographer Cameron Sylvester, and product development director Ian Millar. Sometimes there's nothing like hanging with a good friend during prime time.

A few weeks ago during my stay in Tokyo, my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto took me out one evening to explore the Shimokitazawa neighborhood over in the Setagaya Ward armed with nothing but our 50mm prime lenses. It was a pretty hip area that reminded me of a very laid back, far less crowded and relaxed version of some of the other areas in and around Tokyo. It was my kind of neighborhood so the atmosphere suited me just fine. For this shoot I also decided to leave my D3S on Aperture Priority mode with an Auto ISO maxing out at 4000. Being a landscape guy, it's not often that I need an ISO higher than 800 so I wanted to see what kind of results I would get by letting the camera determine the ISO. Overall it was a fun, chill night with good eats to top it off.

A Day of Bad Weather

I visited Numazu City, Shizuoka last weekend. I had been looking forward to see Mt. Fuji from this beach, but the bad weather prevented me from seeing it. I thought of leaving the beach without taking any photo, but decided to shoot this as a souvenir.

Not all giants in Tokyo play baseball.

I'm back home in the good ol' U.S. of A., and I tell ya, I couldn't be more lazier than I am right now. I must admit that photography wasn't a priority for my latest trip to Japan, but that doesn't mean I didn't bring my gear. I ended up with just under 4000 frames that I've backed up and rated. Now begins the task of processing the winners, trying to save some losers, and just enjoying the memories that come with each shot. 

One of the things I was able to do on this trip was hang with my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto! Over the last few months, we had talked about going out for a Micro 4/3 only shoot. So one free day, that's exactly what we did. Him with his trusty Lumix and me with the OM-D E-M5, we walked the streets of Tokyo shooting anything that caught our interest. Two Great Photographers in Tokyo

I had a chance to hang around with +Trey Ratcliff and +Tom Anderson last weekend (It was so fun Trey-san, Tom-san!). This is a shot of Trey-san posing for me during taking photos of a bridge in Daiba, Tokyo.

先週末、Google+で480万人以上のフォロワーを抱えるスターふたりとともに、夜の東京を撮影する機会を得た。一人はHDRトラベル写真家として大人気のトレイ・ラトクリフさん。もう一人はマイ・スペースの共同創始者のトム・アンダーソンさんで、やはり素晴らしいHDR写真を撮る。そして、二人とも気さくでほめ上手。成功する人はこうあるべき、という手本を見たような気がした（写真でポーズを決めてくれているのは、トレイ・ラトクリフさん）。

The Azalea Festival at Nezu Shrine 根津神社つつじ祭り

I visited Nezu Shrine in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo with +Mark Esguerra and a friend of mine from U.K. The Azalea Festival in its premises had just started and we enjoyed walking on the hill full of pink and white flowers.

友人たちと文京・根津神社を訪れた。ちょうどつつじ祭りが始まったばかりで（知らなかった！）、境内の丘を埋め尽くす白やピンクの花をのんびりと楽しむことができた。

A Young Couple Being Celebrated by Their Friends

When I tried to shoot these flowers, I noticed that two of them on the left looked like lovers, and that the other flowers were giving them their blessings. Of course, it was just done by strong wind. I kindly separated them after I took this images ;)

この花の写真を撮ろうと思ったとき、左側の２つの花が恋人同士で、周囲の花が彼らを祝福しているように見えた。もちろん、それはただの風のいたずらで、撮影した後、親切な僕は二人（二本？）を引き離しておいてあげた。

I joined +Trey Ratcliff's Tech Talk and Networking Event held at Google Japan Headquarters in Roppongi Hills. An interesting thing is that a lot of the attendees (including me) were enthusiastically taking photos of the view from the cafe space of Google's office during the networking event, almost forgetting about networking.

六本木ヒルズのグーグル・ジャパンで開催された+Trey Ratcliffさんのトークイベントと懇親会に参加した。懇親会で面白かったのは、すっかり懇親することを忘れて、夕景から夜景まで多くの人が写真を撮るのに夢中になっていたこと。もちろん、僕もその一人だったけれど…。

Evening Walk with +Mark Esguerra in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo

Mark is a great photographer and a good friend of mine since the beginning of Google+. Last night, I was very happy to take him out to my favorite town. Actually, it was the first real photo walk (not a virtual one through the Internet) in this town with a friend from abroad. It was very exciting to see what the landscape and architecture photography enthusiast was interested in and took photos of with a 50mm prime lens in that small town.

Full Bloom

The eight-fold cherry blossoms in my neighborhood were in full bloom last weekend. They always remind me of a Japanese confectionery called Sakura-mochi (The images are here: http://bit.ly/ZsCoag).

この週末、世田谷・桜新町の八重桜が満開になった。毎週日曜日はこの近くに行く用事があるので、その帰りに撮影。八重桜を見るたびに、桜餅が食べたくなる。

Pink Shiny Lips

I joined a portrait practice session organized by +Yuga Kurita. At first we were planning to visit a park or a riverside, but the heavy rain forced us to stay indoors. Anyway, we were able to play with lighting, and it was fun. This is my favorite image from the session.

G+の仲間でポートレートを撮り合うセッションに参加。当初は公園、もしくは川辺などに行くはずだったが、悪天候のため屋内にいることになった。しかし、ライティングなどで遊ぶこともでき、楽しく勉強になった。これは私のお気に入りのイメージ。

Ishikawacho, Yokohama. Kanagawa  横浜・石川町

There's a popular shopping street near Ishikawacho, Yokohama. My girlfriend is interested in window-shopping along the street. I'm happy to walk with her, but before going home, I don't forget taking out my camera and take photos of this spot located at the end of the street.

横浜・元町のショッピングストリートでデートするのは楽しいけれど、実は本命は元町のすぐ脇にあるこっちで、帰る前にしっかり撮影することは忘れない。写真が撮れれば、あとは何も買わなくても満足できるので、実は安上がりなのかもしれない。

The cherry blossoms had passed their peak, but still I was able to enjoy the spring festive atmosphere along the Nakameguro River in Meguro, Tokyo. I joined +Drink and Click™ Tokyo's March event. The theme of the photo contest this month is "black and white photography" but I couldn't resist taking a photo of the blossoms in color :p  Thanks for organizing the event, +holger feroudj. Thanks for introducing the delicious pizzas to us, +Giovanni Piliarvu :D

東京、中目黒で開催された+Drink and Click™ Tokyo のイベントに参加（毎月開催されているので、興味のある方はページをチェック）。すでにピークを過ぎた桜だったけれども、春の祭り気分を味わうことができて満足。やっぱり人混みは好きではないけれど、ね…。+holgerferoudj、イベントのオーガナイズありがとう。+Giovanni Piliarvu、紹介してくれた山手通り沿いのピザ（ピッツェリア エ トラットリア ダ イーサ）、おいしかった。

Cherry Blossom Canopy

I love this spot along the river on my way home from work. Few people are around there, and the cherry blossoms are lit up beautifully by the lights from the adjacent athletic field. With this, I don't feel the need to visit the crowded cherry blossom viewing spots.  

仕事からの帰り道、神田川と荒玉水道が交差するあたりに咲く桜。人はほとんどいない。横の運動場からの光が満開の花をきれいに照らしだす。一人静かに、夜桜が楽しめるお気に入りのスポット。

Sakura in White　(Added 5 images)

I like to walk along the river near my workplace during the lunchtime. During this season, I can't help looking up at the cherry blossoms even though my face and camera get wet.

職場の近くを流れる神田川沿いを、昼休みによく散歩する。桜の季節の雨。顔が濡れてもカメラが濡れても、桜の花を見上げずにはいられない（全５枚）。

Japan Photo Walk Hangout - Sakura 2013 -

We had a Japan Photo Walk Hangout at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. What we wanted to do was to show cherry blossoms in full bloom to people all around the world through the Google+ Hangout.
