I’m going to go ahead and posit that arresting people for saying offensive things is just as dangerous to society, possibly more, than some guys running around in the streets hacking a guy to death because their religion told them too.

This is why I've quit watching news and browsing newspaper websites.  If something interesting happens, I'll hear enough of my friends talking about it (in person, or on Twitter/Google+/Facebook) for it to get my attention and I can decide if I want to investigate.  I did a 30-day challenge in March ignoring primary news sources, and it drastically reduced my stress level and (surprise!) gave me more free time for other things.

I know a lot of journalists, and I like reading what good journalists write(especially long-form [I'm looking at you, +Steven Levy]), but the bubblegum "breaking news" stuff has got to go.  Especially after last week.

This is an incredibly important issue and touches the core of how our country is run. Open debate and majority rule are crucial to a functioning democracy - something we don’t have right now. This is something worth fighting for.
