#BirdPoker Pairs curated by +Phil Armishaw
The perfect theme for my recent weekend experience of being surrounded by up to 80 Bohemian Waxwings, which is rare for my area. Some of the birds displayed courtship behavior by passing small items of food back and forth.

Most of the photos in my backyard album have nice bokeh in the background due to my set up. My favorite is in the fall when the background becomes colorful from the leaves in the woods.

#BirdPoker Attacking curated by +Phil Armishaw
It was a little tough to watch as these two Ring-billed Gulls fought it out. There were no casualties aside from the one on the bottom's pride. He walked away extremely muddy with what looked like a hurt wing. Not sure if the damage was permanent or what they were scuffling about, especially since this was in the fall, long after breeding season. And for the record, it would have been illegal for us to walk into the muck to help the bird.

#BirdPoker Friendly Birds curated by +Phil Armishaw
My backyard pair of Red-breasted Nuthatches are very approachable and often fly to the feeders when I am next to them. This one in particular had me worried after she struck my window. She was so shocked that she perched upside down for a while and just stayed still. She eventually made herself right-side-up, recovered and flew off. I still have my pair!

#BirdPoker The Look curated by +Phil Armishaw
I'm cheating on this theme. This IS a wild Red-tailed Hawk, but he was caught by a falconer a couple of weeks before this photo was taken, so he has jesses, etc and hunts with people. This is more of a derpy look than a grumpy one, but I thought I'd lighten the load on all of these angry looking birds. Enjoy!

#BirdPoker Ugly Perches curated by +Phil Armishaw
This Brown Booby was found way north of her range in New Jersey. The perch she chose was ugly, but without it, we would not have been able to get so close with our boat. I do have better photos where the lighting is nicer and the background is more clear, but I'm sharing this one for the theme only.
I say you do ugly backgrounds next!
