In just two decades, the world wide web has transformed and democratized access to information all around the world. I am proud of the role Google has played alongside many others such as Yahoo, Wikipedia, and Twitter. Whether you are a student in an internet cafe in the developing world or a head of state of a wealthy nation, the knowledge of the world is at your fingertips.
Of course, offering these services has come with its challenges. Multiple countries have sought to suppress the flow of information to serve their own political goals. At various times notable Google websites have been blocked in China, Iran, Libya (prior to their revolution), Tunisia (also prior to revolution), and others. For our own websites and for the internet as a whole we have worked tirelessly to combat internet censorship around the world alongside governments and NGO promoting free speech.
Thus, imagine... more »

And I thought my heart couldn't be melted by Google magic anymore... Today the Google+ team was surprised at our weekly All Hands meeting to find out we were having a surprise beach party right outside our building! Check out the wave pool they installed in the parking lot and various Googlers surfing!

We’ve been listening to feedback from our users who want more flexible ways to find their friends on Google+. One of the most flexible tools is an address book uploader, and I wanted to share the good news that it will be rolling out to everyone over the next few days.
Many email systems— and even some social networks — put users in charge of their own data by helping them export their contacts in the standard CSV or vCard formats.
One thing about our uploader is that we won’t mix your imported contacts up with all of your other Google Contacts. We only store the ones that you put into your Circles.
We’re hoping our new address book uploader helps users discover new ways to find their friends. As always, keep the feedback coming, and thanks for using Google+!

Hey Google+ folks!
As I bet you've noticed, we are facing pretty incredible demand for Google+ invites.
As Engineering Director of Google+, I wanted to take a moment to explain why we're growing the system slowly. First, we want to make sure our infrastructure scales so the service remains fast and reliable. Second, we want to ensure that bugs are fixed while there are still a relatively few people in the field trial.
Things are going well with the systems right now so we feel comfortable enough to open up invites for a brief period. Our goal is to double the user base in the field trial. (Sorry, we're not giving details about how many folks are in the field trial yet).
So, in a few minutes, we'll open up invites again.
We continue to throttle invites, so please don't mass invite folks as it won't work. If you invite a... more »

Hmm, I just hit 2^8 followers and I recognize less than half of you. I'm going to assume you just think I'm awesome :)

Evening wonderful Google+ people! I'm starting to see a meme developing that there is a "backdoor" that skirts the invite system if you share to people who aren't using Google+ yet. That's actually not a backdoor, it's a feature. :)
We know that not everyone you want to share with is using Google+ yet and that perhaps your Grandma may be too busy playing Angry Birds on her iPad to ever join any social site. We allow you to easily share content to these folks via email, and in that email is an invitation to see your content and sign up if they want.
Well, that is the case when we are accepting new users. These invitations, like the more obvious kind, are all subject to our super secret formulas, mind numbingly complex algorithms (and nice guy named Brian who is watching a lot of graphs).
We are extremely proud of this product and want to grow... more »

We've shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand. We need to do this carefully, and in a controlled way. Thank you all for your interest!
For any who wish to leave, please remember you can always exit and take your data with you by using Google Takeout.
It's your data, your relationships, your identity.

A couple of people have asked about importing facebook contacts. Sadly we cannot do that, however there is a workaround:
* Import Your facebook friends via Yahoo:

* Then connect your yahoo account to Google+ here:

Hi friend and family! Welcome to "Google+" :)
This particular post is public, but you can post to just individuals or to circles. I invited my immediate and close family and put them all in my Family circle. So I can post my boring tech thoughts publicly and my intimate family thoughts privately.
Some of the features I want to point out:
1. Way down in the left-nav is a "Sparks" link. That's one of the projects I worked on. Type in something you're interested in (for me it's things like "bitcoin" and other nerd-bait) and get back results. Share the best ones with your friends to start a conversation!
2. Over in the right is a green button that says "Start a hangout". It's group video chat. Up to ten people. For free :) Can't wait to try it out with you!
3. Circles. Instead of just adding... more »
