Mass Effect Cosplay - Tali
I'm not that familiar with Mass Effect but this costume design is impressive and some of the photos are really well done. All round nice work by Ayimera.

When did it become OK, tolerated, or even common place to shame people with opposing views?
As passionately as I defend absolute equality for all aspects of humanity, and as vile as some of the people who oppose me are, I fail to see how a defacto call-to-arms to get people to gang up on them is an appropriate response.
Yet, I see it all the time. Whether it's some snobby kid looking for a new laptop, a man justifying the rape culture, or an intolerant bigot screaming about the queers, I can't see why people encourage the e-crucification of these people.
And make no mistake, a post with a link to another post is encouragement.

"While the attacks of September 11, 2001 devastated the United States and much of the world, it also served to bring our country together. Other countries also reached out the US in our time of need, proving the resilience of the human race and the extent of human sympathy."
"Russia actually gave the United States a gift to memorialize the victims of the 9/11 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The gift was a sculpture called “To the Struggle Against World Terrorism” and is also known as “The Tear of Grief.” It was made by Zurab Tsereteli."
"The Tear of Grief is a 100-foot tower of steel coated in bronze. A jagged hole runs through the center of it, and a 40-foot metal teardrop hangs from the top of this hole. The tower’s granite base is etched with the names of those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks and in the 1993 World Tra... more »

Agree or disagree with it, the strategy of American military placement and foreign policy is really quite brilliant militarily.
Taiwan to check China.
South Korea to check North Korea.
Kuwait and Iraq to check Iran.
Japan to check Japan and China.
Going on a documentary kick; don't mind me.

Boy Scouts vote to remove gay ban
Full story here: http://nyti.ms/10Wojgf
In a move that surprises many, the Boy Scouts of America voted today to allow gay scouts into their ranks upholding the values the teach about bravery, honesty, and citizenship. This is a classic case of good people demanding equality and showing that they won't stand behind a discriminatory organization. If you have every posted, commented, supported, +1'ed, or otherwise made your stance clear then you can attribute part this monumental step forward to your inability to settle for unequal policies.
There is sure to be controversy down the road, but take this moment to appreciate just how far we've come and how important equal treatment of sexual minorities is in America. We're moving so fast and it's so incredible.
Congratulations to all the Scouts out there. I hope ... more »

Review of Inner Workings
It should be noted that I'm not a Steampunk fan. I'm a nerd, and as such I have been introduced to Steampunk, but it's never been something that I've ever embraced or read books which belonged to the genre. So my review will probably need to be taken with a grain of salt. However, I decided to take a chance on this book (and genre); and I wasn't disappointed.
It's a short fun romp about a what amounts to a steampunk military contractor who gets a lot of business by flirting with a major within the local militia. It was never really fully explained what his role was, but it's a short story, so it wasn't really necessary. I read it over the span of a few days and while I felt the desire to finish it, it wasn't a "I can't put this book down" sort of story.
A lot of that probably has to do with me... more »

For how long will the U.S. suicide rate remain elevated?
<She sifted through eight decades of U.S. suicide data, wrenching it to separate the influence of absolute age, peer effects, and the events of the moment, and she found something shocking: the boomers have the highest suicide rate right now, but everyone born after 1945 shows a higher suicide risk than expected—and everyone is on pace for a higher rate than the boomers.>

The Sphinx Observatory – Science at the Top of the World ... Kuriositas - "It may look like the hideaway of a super villain from a Bond movie but this is the Sphinx Observatory, dedicated to research which must take place out at an altitude of 3000-3500 meters.
It is situated in Jungfraujoch, Switzerland. At an astonishing 3.571 meters above sea level, the Sphinx observatory in the Swiss Alps is the highest-altitude built structure in Europe.
The Sphinx peak begins from the Jungfraujoch on the Valais side of the Great Aletsch Glacier. Fortunately, for those not built like a mountain goat, there is an elevator to its summit. ..."

Svolværgeita: Jumping the Goat's Horns ... Kuriositas - "If the first words that just came in to your head were never in a million years, then you are probably in good company. The Svolværgeita mountain in Norway was first climbed just a little over a century ago in 1910. Yet since then a tradition has emerged among the mountaineering fraternity: those who reach the goat’s horns jump them. Because they can.
The town of Svolvær in Norland County nestles below the mountain. It is situated in Lofoten (which we have visited before on Kuriositas) on the south coast of Austvågøy, and faces open sea to the south with the mountain directly to the north. It is easy to see where the goats horns got their name. There are two spiky rocks which only the most experienced rock climbers can (safely) reach.

One of the best of posts I've seen on tumblr. Agree with a lot of it, dumbing down of America with stupid media is evident in the last decade but blaming everything on other people is just being lazy. Each of us has the ability to create change for ourselves, what matters is how badly you want it.

Tesla Motors, back in black
Remember that 465 million dollar loan Elon Musk begged the DOE for? Well they've paid it all off, unlike some other American car manufacturers that generate far more money than Tesla.
Hooray Tesla!
With wins like this we're getting even closer to a mass marketed, and more economically friendly, Tesla vehicle which of course is totally awesome.

G+ Thinkers & Creators - I don't do it often, but when I do share circles, it's 'cause I think the people in them are worth sharing with you all, because they make me think, or share things of beauty and originality, whether it be music, photography, food, history, cool articles, humor, etc.
Some of these are the usual suspects you've seen around the G+osphere already, some are probably new to you. But all of them post in my top streams of folks I interact with (or at least read) daily.
They also happen to be some of the NICEST people on here, that I've found. I know, because I've even met some of them in person! Enjoy ;)

I like this new Pope. I'm not even Catholic.
"The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

#sciencesunday #startrek #futuretech #euromaestro
Scanadu is about to release this Star Trek tricorder like device called Scout. The company is based at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif.
The device works simply by holding it up to your forehead for 10 seconds.
Simply place the Scanadu Scout™ on your forehead for 10 seconds and in a snap, your stats are displayed on your smartphone.
The device can then track and monitor your vital signs.

Amazon Announces Kindle Worlds - Legal FanFic Publications?
In it's attempts to conquer the entire publishing world, Amazon has now cut deals with Warner Brothers to enable authors to legally write and publish (and sell) fan fiction.
In part perhaps because of licensing costs the royalty rates are different. For works over 10,000 words you'll get 35% and for shorter works 5,000 to 10,000 you'll get 20%
Keep an eye on those rates there have been rumors that Amazon would like to deprecate the short stories so we could see something similar happening for the rest of KDP.

I so called this 2 years ago. SPORTS IS A BUBBLE, it was growing way too fast at the same time reverse diversificating, the big 4 sports (NASCAR, not Hockey) were consuming all the oxygen in room at an exponentially growing pace and was bound to burn itself out.
Humans are getting to intelligent to buy the fixed farce that is sports today, and sports has zero interest in (sports phrase) playing small ball by working the angles our grand fathers gravitated to sports to (Loyalty, Values, Role Models).
It makes me sad, but sports are about to implode, it makes me unsad because MAYBE we can back to when sports were awesome, when I would just as likely be watching barrel racing, horse jumping, sky slalom, track and field, or bowling with my father on a Saturday afternoon, as I would football or baseball.
