James Day14,168You're invited to participate in a new G+ #art event called Google First Friday ~  #GoogleFirstFriday .  As with most new things Google First Friday will have humble beginnings. Given time though it will grow to be a great event for artists and art enthusiasts alike, to share the newest works being added to the art world each day. This is an event by and for artists. There's no need to starve or struggle if we all come together in support of each other. Hopefully over time that's what this event will become, a place not only to share your work but to connect with other creatives and to find patrons who love your art.  If you have questions, please check out the monthly art event #TwitterFirstFriday  which I've been curating since early 2014 https://twitter.com/hashtag/TwitterFirstFriday?src=hash. Over the past year it's turned into a sizable art event on Twitter. Please set your calendar for Friday June 5th which will be the first of many  #GoogleFirstFriday  art events to come! Thank you for reading and sharing, James DayGOOGLE FIRST FRIDAY2015-07-03 22:00:00205

Pacellli's residence in North Haven, Connecticut. Interesting thing for my practice, I been doing 3-dimensional drawings for some time, some even said it was only an art expression, but now I can produce drawings in 3D at the speed of previously done in 2d. It is also interesting to see the reaction of the clients. They didn't expect so many drawings in 3D in such a shot amount of time. If you are old enough you remember client asking for perspective and you asking a major increase (x2) in your fees (not anymore).

I show a colleague my equation of stone in a pyramid. He ask if I could play with one of the geometry golden rule. Placing a perfect square in a semi-circle.

Hello Mr. Strauch,
Solution 1: calculated the radius (the golden rule). Copy from the internet
Solution 2: draw the square first establish the angle.
Solution 3: the 2 square on top of each other create the angle.

Once you have the angle you can apply it to any semi-circle.

Solution 3 is the easiest (the CAD drawing with a black background)

The difference between my calculation of stone in a pyramid and the inscribe a square in semi-circle is one of the two is already been studied.

Regards,
Denis

This is the first step in calculating the stone in a pyramid. The image is the second part of the equation. Calculating the number of stone in a 2 dimensional pyramid (triangle). Heron’s formula  a Greek Mathematician from Alexandria publish in Metrica in the year 60 AD. The formula (S1 + S2 + S3) x 1/2 (S = length of the side). The like Heron’s formula the triangle area is close, but neither Heron or b x h x 1/2 work to establish the number of stone in triangle. Solution:  n x (n +1) x 1/2.
Next is the 3 dimensional pyramid see previous post

Pyramid: ((n x (n +1) x (n + 1)) - ((n x n + 1) /2)) / 3
n = the number of stone on one side of the base of the pyramid. This is for the number of stone in a pyramid not the volume. If you recognize the formula let me know.

Architecture is shifting from the development of drawing sets that specify the assembly of a kit of parts to computational and fabrication methods that have been used successfully in the automotive and aerospace fields for decades. Architects can now design, simulate, fabricate, and evaluate custom components and products that fit the precise needs of the built environment rather than relying on the compromise of a pre-existing solution." http://www.nycctfab.com ___

As windows and doors was one of our main weak points I spend a lot of time on this subject the last year - and visited with German Passiv Haus window manufactures after my trip to the conferences in Europe. It was very frustrating to see and explore all these cutting edge products and technologies in Germany and comparing them to what I have available back home in the States. I was very close in ordering in windows and doors from Germany for some of our Projects. My main concerns were costs and lead time and of course warranty and replacement. It was very frustrating to see and explore all these cutting edge products and technologies in Germany and comparing them to what I have available back home in the States. I was very close in ordering in windows and doors from Germany for some of our Projects. My main concerns were costs and lead time and of course warranty and replacement. But in the end the deciding factor for me to not to go down this path was something else all together. I decided for myself that ordering windows from Germany was just not the solution. I believe in community, local business and the importance of ripple effect for the local economy. In a way one of the biggest lessons for me traveling through Europe and attending the Passiv Haus conferences and talking to many Architects, Builders and Manufactures was to take in there technologies and knowledge and to incorporate it in our climate and our constrains - BUT to nevertheless focus on working with our own community on improving what we do. And we really try hard to push that sense of "community" through to our clients - with great success.
I approached our small local window manufactures and tried to sell them on the "Passiv Haus Window". And one of them was very interested and worked hard with us on their windows - and I am hoping to travel to Germany in the spring with the owner to explore ways to further incorporate their window technology. There is no reason for us not to build equally good windows here in our own community. And we are happily installing homegrown insulated Fiberglass Windows with German tilt and turn hardware, in swing, wide frames to be able to over insulated the frames on the outside with high performing Heat Mirror glazing on all our project now. The wide frames and the tilt-turn hardware allows us to over insulate the outside of the frames very well which results in a tremendous gain in installed U-Value. I highly recommend studying the Passiv Haus publication # 37 which was published last year (so far only in German) which is very eye opening about the importance of not just the window but also its placement in the wall assembly and over insulation level on the outside of the frame. Great Isothermal pictures and diagrams. We spend a lot of time, energy and money this year on figuring out the best means of incorporating this into our building practices. Anybody trying to build high efficient homes in cold climates should look into this IMO. and of course into insulated window shutters...

"3d printing and copy-write"
This is a big issue for designer. The 3d printing and digital fabrication will reduce the design and labor of product. An initial increase in planning is needed to run the production software. Once the data is available this cost will be eliminated.
Followed by the production of artifact at a lower design and labor cost by digital fabrication. An increase need of digital design for mass production is the first step and the potential for individual customization is even more interesting.
