+Bob Nagy and I went out on a "guerilla solar" mission to help a guy in the Montopolis part of Austin who has no electricity, no water, no phone, no internet and not much money. We set up a 6 heavy duty batteries, a couple of solar panels, inverter, etc so he has electricity to power a flat screen tv we installed hooked up to about 14 over the air channels in Austin and left a hard drive with about 1,000 great movies on it. He does have gas so we can now look for a propane refrigerator for him. We made a video of the project so others can do this.

"Google+ is now the core of everything Google. Having a presence on the platform and actually using it to promote your website, company and events now affects how well your website ranks in a Google search. Google+ is also a tool for authentication. Google is attempting to authenticate every piece of content on the web and associate it with a real business or person. This helps keep down the spam and other low-quality content from their search results. Join us as we dig into Google+ and learn how to use all of the new features to grow your business." - Ken Partain

+Laura Lorek talks at Austin's RISE entrepreneurs conference about what makes startup succeed, and fail, at her RISE session at the Capital Factory. For example, she talked about how the Homeaway startup (eg +John Banczak ) went and talked to another company who failed at vacation rentals before they launched to learn from their mistakes.

This is the only website that actually gives you all three of your credit reports without any "gotchas" or hidden charges. Many of the others are scams and should be avoided.

Great, worthwhile reading about +Stewart Brand who changed the world in some ways with as much impact as Steve Jobs and is still riding the wave to the future. (I worked for Whole Earth as a Software Reviewer at one point).

Bruce Sterling tries on Google Glass in Berlin.
#brucesterling #nextconf #berlin #euromaestro
Bruce Sterling helped define the cyberpunk genre with his Mirrorshades anthology. I met up with this epic science fiction author in Berlin at nextconf 2013 for an interview.
In addition to his many science fiction novels, he is known for his blog “Beyond the Beyond” which he is been writing for almost 10 years now and which is hosted by Wired.
http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/
We started with the usual introductory comments and I was immediately impressed with his intelligence and the power of his expressions. Our first topic of conversation was about the European start-up scene and how it differed from Route 128 and Silicon Valley. Although that part of the conversation made me uncomfortable, I knew he was right.
