This image has become my favorite Downtown, SoNo, GaTech, Midtown, Piedmont Park photo because it really shows the true relationship and scale of the area. If Atlanta is to become the city we imagine it to be I think we need to stop fooling ourselves with photoshopped skylines. 

As the Beltline nears completion the area below is going to become more important. It would be great if it look fabulous too.

For comparison this is what a real version of Atlanta looks like. Atlanta will never become city we imagine unless we face up to what it actually looks like.

Here's another example of a photoshopped Atlanta Skyline. It's not easy to spot but it's quite obvious when you see it.  AT&T and Atlanta City Center (IBM) buildings are too far apart. They're on the same side of West Peachtree just shy of a mile apart. Buildings have been moved left or right and put where they don't belong to fill in gaps. It's hard to believe but the BofA and John Portman towers from this angle would overlap each other.

The station was an addition to the airport built to serve TGV trains on the LGV Rhône-Alpes, part of the main line running from Paris to Marseille. It is situated about 20 km east of Lyon city centre.

Beltline security concerns NOT raised over snatched cell phone.

Atlanta police are investigating a report that an armed suspect robbed a woman as she jogged along the city's Beltline trail Tuesday morning.

Atlanta police told CBS Atlanta News they were checking records, but it appears Tuesday's attack on the trail is the first this year.  Police said a handful of phone snatchings were reported at the end of 2012.

The Virginia Highlands Civic Association said despite news of the stolen cell phone, the organization feels the Beltline is safe and well patrolled.

Federal DA Nabs Another Convenience Store for Food Stamp Fraud & Forgery

An undercover officer entered into illegal transactions 18 times at the store, receiving cash for blank WIC vouchers that Dix later filled in with an amount “significantly greater” than what he paid for them, authorities said. He deposited the vouchers into his bank account.

Dix was indicted last July on 18 counts of WIC fraud and 83 counts of possession of forged securities. He pleaded guilty to every charge, authorities said.

Dix owned and operated Spank’s Quick Stop in Griffin, and the store was authorized to redeem WIC vouchers for specified food items. Dix and his employees broke the law by paying cash for the WIC vouchers instead of taking them as payment for the food items listed on the vouchers, prosecutors said.

Cul De Sac Sprawl Leads Nowhere
Suburban sprawl is about as anti-sustainable as you can get. Residents who must drive anywhere to do anything, whether it's grabbing a cup of coffee or picking up a prescription, have an over-sized carbon footprint that also reduces real estate value. That's the theme of a new report and video from the Congress for the New Urbanism. Reducing the average vehicle miles traveled per person by just one mile per day would save $29 billion annually, according to a report.

NU recently held a contest for a video about the impact of suburban sprawl. The winning video, "Built to Last" mocks sprawl as the greatest threat to humanity. That may be an overreach, but the negative impact on health and economic development is not.
