In Mind

Sorry for all the posts. Truth is, I've been on a photography break for nearly 6 months. I finally have the desire again and have decided to finish out pending images from 2012 as a "warm up".

PS: I've noticed my images look SUPER bright here on G+ but not on other networks :/ Ugh I hate when images look different across screens/sites. Makes me nervous of what I think they should look like but don't. Great.

Just finished making my submission for the +Plus One Collection this year! I submitted what I believe to be my best image of the year 2012, my photo "Twisted".

This was shot on our family ranch in San Antonio, Texas during the summer. The model is my cousin Autumn. Her and her family still live on the property. There is a lot of history there, including a few ghost stories, eep! ;)

No. 5 La Señora de las Flores

I couldn't sleep last night and spent all that time with this girl, the lady of roses. It is inspired by my late grandmother, my Mami, Candita Santiago. It is also a dress design crossed between two styles I have in mind for the wardrobe in my new series beginning in 2013, La La Land.

It is going to be a a visual storybook to be inspired by folklore, fairy tales, my faith, family history and other things that my dreams and life are made of.

I'm going to spend January in pre-production mode for the series. There is a lot to get together, including the creation of the wardrobe which my mother is doing the majority of. I can't wait to share BTS of that in about a week or two!! :D

So much to do, my brain is just firing with ideas...

Roots

Mixed media - ink and photography

1. Scanned inked illustration and brought into photoshop
2. Cleaned up image using levels
3. Painted image via brush and blending mode multiply
3. Added textures and other images, painting them on via a mask and using a multiply blending mode

The clouds, hair and large brush stokes are all taken from other images - bokeh and hair from portraits I had taken. The brush stroke's bokeh was added via a clipping mask.

4. For kicks, I added a faux tilt shift blur (under filtres in CS6)

This is the first mixed media I've done in photoshop. It's fun!! :)

Rooted

I'm actually getting back to my roots in illustration. I haven't really done any kind of illustration work since I was a teenager - I'm pushing 30 now to give you an idea of time passed.

From here on out I wan to incorporate this into my photography. So many photographers I know sketch their concepts out before they shoot. I've never been into that, but drawing an "idea" of what I may photograph might be fun.

This was done with ink and then colorized in photoshop using textures and clips from old images.

New work, fresh from my shoot this weekend, straight out of the camera! No Photoshop! yea...right :-)

The make-up artist and I worked on an idea that started in a much different place. We have some shots of the model in front of a mirror in our creepy bathroom, akin to a druggy teen shoot. After a while we moved out to the sweep to do some additional shots and I started to work more into the fantasy type of poses. I had her expand the work from the eyes down onto the neck to represent a type of corruption and the concept started to take shape in my mind.

Once I got home I found an image to use as the point of departure and the rest is history and around 100 layers of goodness. I am sure the bathroom shots will come out as well, but they will be a few days. Let me know what you think.

Had some inspiration on one of the shots from a few weeks ago and decided to make it a reality last evening.

I have several images that I love, yet they are incomplete works of art. Interesting poses or something calling to me from the photo, but I am at a loss on how to do them justice. Some of these I have been stuck on for years, just waiting for the right inspiration or idea to hit me. This image didn't have to sit for long, and the idea came together quite quickly.

"Toxic Environment"

This image I shot this past summer at the RC Harris water treatment plant in Toronto on the yearly open house.

It was selected by the Nation Association of Photoshop Professionals as the promo Image for Wacom's recent contest. It was in print ads too.

In other news, I finally got to see the new Neurologist today about my Neuropathy and I must say, it was a completely different experience then the other Doctor. He actually had ideas about what it might be and what tests we can do to figure it out! First thing he did was test my nervous system by shocking my arms and legs about 20 times with varying degrees of ZAP! Kinda interesting...lol. So there is some progress on that front with some more tests to come in the near future.

Oh and we won our game last night 9 - 4 and I scored again. It seems we win when I score so I told the team to keep that in... more »
