Also the Schedule is nicely designed. Alternative transportation modes are suggested to compare times, prices etc.

They really thought about the directions of presenting the results. times on top and the selected option with details on the left near the map.A good basis toward hybrid route computation: walk there, take the car to the station, take the train to the airport, take a taxi to the hotel...  


upload final selection to my calendar? No, unfortunately not, yet.

My idea would be: dynamically show options in my calendar while time goes on. Already have seen such application as android apps. Hopefully this dynamic paradigma spreads.

This is the story, from my perspective, of how Google Maps went from a flat map where Greenland looks bigger than Africa to the beautifully realistic 3D globe we launched today.

My background is in 3D graphics.  Computer games are what got me into computers in the first place, and I ended up getting a masters in computer graphics.  When I started working at Google in 2004 I sat near +Bret Taylor and +Lars Rasmussen and got to watch them develop and then then launch Google Maps.  Later that same year when Google bought Keyhole (which later became Google Earth) I was wowed by Keyhole's beautiful 3D rendering of the Earth.  So when I moved to the Google Maps team under +Brian M in 2006, one of the big things I wanted to do was to bring Google Maps and Google Earth closer together and make Google Maps 3D and bring that WOW factor to every Google Maps user.  The challenge was that GoogleMaps was... more »

It does seem odd that with Google Now coming to iOS, more iPhone users will have access to it than Android users, since it only works on Android for those with 4.1 or higher.

The Antikythera Mechanism

The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient analog computer designed to calculate astronomical positions. It was recovered in 1900–1901 from the Antikythera wreck, but its significance and complexity were not understood until a century later. Jacques-Yves Cousteau visited the wreck in 1978, but although he found new dating evidence he did not find any additional remains of the Antikythera mechanism. The construction has been dated to the early 1st century BC. Technological artifacts approaching its complexity and workmanship did not appear again until the 14th century AD, when mechanical astronomical clocks began to be built in Western Europe.
Professor Michael Edmunds of Cardiff University, who led a 2006 study of the mechanism, said:

Spooky Pizza Idea

Here's a cool #doityourself  Halloween pizza idea; for the ghosts, use mozzarella pieces with black olive for 'ghost' eyes, then whole green olive with rosemary sticks coming out of the sides for 'spiders' between them! Happy Halloween. Since they're small, you could do a bunch on a cookie sheet.

Does this strange dark ball look somehow familiar? If so, that might be because it is our Sun. In the above image, a detailed solar view was captured originally in a very specific color of red light, then rendered in black and white, and then color inverted. Once complete, the resulting image was added to a starfield, then also color inverted. Visible in the above image of the Sun are long light filaments, dark active regions, prominences peaking around the edge, and a moving carpet of hot gas. The surface of our Sun has become a particularly busy place over the past two years because it is now nearing Solar Maximum, the time when its surface magnetic field is wound up the most. This is about as big as my thumbnail. the technique to make them can be done in large batches, involving layered sheets of material fused together similar to making microchips, or 3d printing. The eventual plan is for the bots to be popped out out these sheets, ready to use, To be included in a swarm of hundreds.

Back at the Apple iPhone 5 announcement event, Phil Schiller claimed that the new iOS flagship has the world’s most advanced display yet. It appears, however, that this might not be entirely true, as one Nokia fan is keen to point out. He did a spec-by-spec comparison of the iPhone 5 and the Lumia 920 and the latest Apple smartphone didn’t really manage to impress there.
