Goodbye to my dear great aunt Grace, who lived to the fine old age of 103. She lived life to the fullest, and is an example to us all. She is survived by her sister Mary, 105.
The two of them are virtually inseparable in my mind. They grew up together, taught school together, and raised their families together in the same small town. I think they were both widows by the time I was old enough to remember them. And then they were off, traveling the world, taking college classes, and embracing life fully.
Remembering Grace, and keeping Mary in my thoughts. May we all live as well.

I keep my phone, chrome book, and a small set of speakers on my nightstand when I'm charging at home. I got tired of the cables getting tangled, and falling back where I couldn't reach them. So I cut off a chunk of foam from some packing material, made a few notches in it, ran the cords through the notches, and wedged it between my nightstand and the wall. Now the cords stay where they are supposed to without anything that needs to clip or stick to the wall or the furniture.

Due to scheduling conflicts, I ended up in Denver on Earth Day when I was supposed to be running my first half marathon. So I set out to get it done today. No speed records, but I'm glad to have finished. :-)
I still had a couple of miles in the tank, but the thought of that being the halfway point of a full marathon is staggering. You people are crazy.
It was a great day for a run. Cool, overcast, light wind, no snow or rain. My course consisted of my regular 7 mile loop, and then two laps of my 5k+ course. It meanders along the Mississippi, through the city of St. Cloud, MN, and across the campus of St. Cloud State University. I thought I'd get clever and use Google Drive to distribute some large files rather than going through the hassle of setting them up on my FTP server. Good idea, right?
Except that Internet Explorer doesn't seem to like to play well with Drive. Works great on Chrome and Firefox, but I get error messages from IE. I don't think the person I'm trying to send the files to is all that computer savvy, so I'm spending a lot of time explaining some stuff that most people reading this could do in their sleep.
Anyone else encounter this with IE and Drive?

Ever read a book where each chapter is a different topic on a related theme? Any you read it, because you have expertise on one area, but would like to broaden & deepen your knowledge on the other topics. So you dig into the book and think it's great. But then you get to the one chapter where you have expertise, and it is just terrible. The author clearly has no idea what he's talking about. And then every other chapter you thought was good is called into question, and you have no idea if they are any good at all.
That's kind of how I feel about this. It looks awesome, and I'd love to try these dishes. But they so completely missed the boat on Minnesota food that I'm not sure I trust it. They took hot dish? Sure, people eat it, but it's because it's what you have at home on a Tuesday, or at a church supper on a Wednesday. You don't go looking f... more »

Thinking about Cinderella. Who would want a glass slipper? Aside from being uncomfortable and dangerous, can you imagine what your feet would look like all smooshed up inside that shoe? Your toes would look like sausages in a too-tight cellophane package. Then you'd sweat while dancing at the ball and they'd fog up. They really should have thought this one through.

I think it's interesting that everyone is looking at Dzokhar Tsarnaev and is talking about Chechnya and Islam. But it isn't at all clear that these things were all that influential in his life.
If his name was Bob Smith we'd be talking about video games and Hollywood.
I'm not saying he hasn't radicalized. But I just think it's interesting to see how the discourse is developing.
