"The Tao of Pinochet" is NOW OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE for the first time online at the link below.

Running time is 1 hour and 50 minutes - a brand new cut since the 2011 screening.   But it's still a highly strange film.

It might take a few minutes for it to load depending on your browser or your internet speed.  BUT WAIT FOR IT.  It does work eventually.  Seems to work best on Google Chrome.

You can also DOWNLOAD if that option works better for ye.

Embrace your inner dictator.

"The Tao of Pinochet" stars Jonny Vincent, Matt Kenna, Ginger Henson, Roberto Perez, Melysa Sparks, Matthew Finley, Jason Britt, Drew Richards, Timothy Taule, Cristie Schoen, Brian Lally,  J.D. Coburn, Leslie McManus, Jackie Haigh, Manfred Welles, Don Gottesman, Shannon Conlon, Alexander Breckenridge, Jon Lear, Jamie Muhoberac, Lexi Bella, Mary Evans,Adria... more »

Here's the site link for our first film, "LOW," from way back in 2008. The website was just re-launched, so do 'er up if you dare.

And here's the rave from the L.A. Daily News Review if you need a primer:

L.A. Daily News Review
March 2008

"Low" is the type of independent film that a film critic prays for: though not a big budget film, it does so much with what it has and does not scrimp on story or acting (the same cannot be said for so many studio films today). This is one of the darkest (and funniest) comedies in a long time. Director Brennan Howard (“Straighten Up America”) tells the story with quiet confidence and masterful pacing throughout.

The premise of "Low" is that a boxer and a musician (inspired by the lives of Sonny Liston and Chet Baker) randomly meet and embark on a lost weekend of boozing,dru... more »

"Our work has shown that stars have no problem making complex organic compounds under near-vacuum conditions," says Prof. Sun Kwok, author of Organic Matter in the Universe. "Theoretically, this is impossible, but observationally we can see it happening."

That's cool. Life in space? Or something else?

In his new paper in Nature, he claims a molecule like that shown here would do better at explaining the spectra of interstellar clouds than the usual suspects: simpler molecules called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Matt Taibbi — for whom I have less than uniformly warm feelings — nonetheless offers an important piece of the Oakland Police Riot puzzle in these two paragraphs.

Millions of people have been foreclosed upon in the last three years. In most all of those foreclosures, a regional law enforcement office -- typically a sheriff's office -- was awarded fees by the court as part of the foreclosure settlement, settlements which of course were often rubber-stamped by a judge despite mountains of perjurious robosigned evidence.

That means that every single time a bank kicked someone out of his home, a local police department got a cut. Local sheriff's offices also get cuts of almost all credit card judgments, and other bank settlements. If you're wondering how it is that so many regional police departments have the money for fancy new vehicles and SWAT teams and otheracc... more »

We all know Oreos are delicious, but did you know they make a great canvas for cameos? Dating as far back as 332 BC, cameos are defined by contrast, usually with a raised light relief against a dark intaglio, which serves as a dark backdrop. With that in mind, Oreo's most defiantly fit the bill and is another example of food too good to eat. Check out Judith G. Klausner's page for more examples of her art!

Can't believe I didn't know about this album 'til now. Excellent time warp. 70's, ELO, and Beach Boys fusion. It's his one and only album before he died at a fairly young age. Guess I was intrigued after seeing him in "Two Lane Blacktop." Not the greatest actor, but a cool vibe and cool film.

I dig his album. It grows on you if you're up for the 70's time machine. Apparently it's the best reviewed CD of 2008 (after they re-mastered it). Guess it's better late than never...

"Oxidation..."

Domino Sugar Factory. Williamsburg, Brooklyn. New York City.

There is something remarkably touching about urban decay. It is as if sorrow and longing can be traced in the peeling layers and crumbling brick. In warm sunlight, the rich colors created by iron oxidation produce the most beautiful textures on old pipes and metal framework. The memory of those who graced the intricate insides of these structures is delicately preserved by the faded remnants that remain.

During the period following the Civil War, New York was the top provider of refined sugar to the United States, and for a period of time the Domino Sugar factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn was the largest sugar refinery in the world. At one time, the factory employed over 4,000 workers and processed 3 million pounds of sugar a day.

After nearly 150 years of service, the factory... more »

Generation X Doesn’t Want to Hear It

Mat Honan's Tumblr http://bit.ly/mS5xK9

Earlier generations have weathered recessions, of course; this stall we’re in has the look of something nastier. Social Security and Medicare are going to be diminished, at best. Hours worked are up even as hiring staggers along: Blood from a stone looks to be the normal order of things “going forward,” to borrow the business-speak. Economists are warning that even when the economy recuperates, full employment will be lower and growth will be slower—a sad little rhyme that adds up to something decidedly unpoetic. A majority of Americans say, for the first time ever, that this generation will not be better off than its parents.

Excellent interview of an inspired artist. This quote about what it is to create should resonate:

RICHARD DOUD: Do you think it’s possible for someone to go into the file today and pick out, oh say two dozen pictures that have never been printed and make them great pictures by repetitive publication?

JOHN COLLIER: I think a person could almost go in and pick a show like “The Bitter Years” of pictures that have never been seen before. When people would first see them they would say, “Well gee, they’re not as good as ‘“The Bitter Years”’” because they’d be new pictures. But if you had some way of duplicating them enough times they would become as great. It’s a very slow thing to make these images stand out, and a lot of it is repetition. You learn these pictures the way you learn tunes. It takes a little while to learn a new tune...

Occupy Wall Street has a generation gap. And it's complex.

If you are a baby boomer who has been successful monetarily, you should be aware that you personally didn't cause this, but factors that happened in your generation did. Please help take a stand to correct it, or else your grandchildren and your great grandchildren will suffer as a result.

How The American Medical System Almost Killed Me

Just FYI: This post is very long, shocking, and personal. This is your warning.

I keep getting questions about why I'm in a wheelchair, why I have lupus, and I have never fully addressed them; so here you go: a complete explanation. It's a bit TL;DR, but if you think it's long to read it, imagine how long it was for me to live it.

From The Beginning:

When I was 15 years old, in 1995, I was diagnosed with systemic lupus. Lupus is a disease in which the immune system malfunctions, becomes confused, and begins attacking the body instead of doing what it's supposed to do, which is to attack infections and viruses. When lupus flares, the immune system can choose to attack almost anything in the body. My immune system first targeted my blood system. When I was 17, I was hospitalized for 3... more »
