Paul Pavlinovich20,463You may shoot 36 compositions on this photowalk. you may shoot film or digital it's up to you but only 36.Can you do it? Shooting only 36 will make you really look, evaluate, think "do I really need this shot?". It will make you more deliberate. It will make you hunt for the best light and the best subject matter. You'll find it hard. You'll find it frustrating. You'll find it rewarding. You may post process via traditional or digital darkroom if you choose. If you're shooting HDR you may bracket but you must only end up with 36 images after post. I'll lead a walk around Melbourne (botanic gardens, observatory, the shrine, arts centre, ending for munchies and drinks on Southbank). If you can't walk with us, please shoot the 36 anywhere you want and share the 36 to this event. Worldwide. Go for it. The 36 photowalk - where will you shoot yours?2014-08-31 14:00:0054

Sean Clark824A photowalk that (roughly) follows the path of last year's Maribyrnong walk and (less-roughly) stops at some of the sights of the soon-to-be-complete Regional Rail Link - City to Maribyrnong River Project.the routeA rough route is here. Happy to take suggestions and make changes:http://goo.gl/ycHjMIMeet at Footscray Station, finishing at the pub South Kensington Station. It's a bit of a hike (~3km on foot), and covers about 1/2 of the project, but there are some highlights that have been built by RRL-CMR including:- The new Maribyrnong River rail bridge - built to complement the heritage bridge that it sits beside- Street art by Makatron at South Kensington StationThere are also a few sights from the project's neighours:- The new Footscray Station (built by the adjoining project RRL-FDP)- The temple of the Heavenly Queen- South Kensington Skate Park- Lots (and lots) of +Cableicous action throughout the South Kensington area- Oh, and the fish-and-chip place at Conway - Must. Stop. There.Maribyrnong Photowalk2014-07-12 10:00:009
Paul Pavlinovich20,463Ok, even though we're not Americans we've got fireworks on July 4th this year too so why not get out and celebrate with a photowalk? I've moved this to under the Bolte Bridge for something different. There is usually parking up this end of Docklands Drive. We'll shoot either from under the bridge or more likely from the wasteland where the circus tent used to be. We'll be very close to the fireworks so wide angle would be useful but not essential. We should be able to get fireworks and bridge and if we're lucky fireworks and city. After the fireworks we'll make our way towards the death star for some night shots. Docklands walk and Fireworks2014-07-04 10:00:005
Paul Pavlinovich20,463We'll be walking from the Maribyrnong River to the Yarra River following as closely as possible the old goods railway line as it originally existed to move goods from one part of the port to another for distribution around Melbourne.Where there are available high points we'll take them to see the lights of the Port of Melbourne, The City on the skyline, and of course The Death Star. It's roughly a 6.5km walk plus detours. The faint of heart can shorted in by diverting onto the Capital City Trail after we cross Railway Canal. We'll meet at The Reverence Hotel in Footscray from 5pm and start the walk at dusk as the lights come up nicely for photography probably around 6.15pm. We'll finish at the pizza shop at the end of Webb Bridge where you can get take away for about $10 or eat and drink within if your pockets are deep.Everyone welcome.Map: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=z58dq65KDHgk.kmFUSfv1sWb4River2River Anniversary Photowalk2014-06-20 17:00:0021

Many members of this community are not able to attend photowalks for various reasons. We have created this event to give everyone a chance to experience their own photowalk in your *local or surrounding suburb you live in*.    Try and capture something unique or unusual. Move out of your comfort zone and try to be creative.  Add a small description to your photo and you may encourage others to venture out and visit your local area and see what you have captured. *The best photo of the event, as judged by +Charles Strebor  will receive a 20" x 30" (50x76cm) Print on 250gsm Satin Photo Paper.*   Everyone has two weeks to complete the photowalk and submit their photos. You are allowed to enter up to two photos each. ( this will make it more difficult for +Charles Strebor to judge :) ) Event dates. *When: Today (22 of July 13)* *End:    Monday 5th of August.* Rules. Processed photos allowed. Photos must be shot within a distance of 5km around your home.  (the house you spend 95% living and sleeping in).  Photos can only be taken between the event dates. 2 entries per person must be uploaded to this event page for judging. You must be a member of the +Melbourne Photowalk community and live in Victoria to enter this event. It is open to all ages and experience. This link is for a google map created by @118387887168707366743 for people to add their photo location. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=204930565885876159876.0004e33c51fc368bc84f2 How well do you know the surrounding area you live in?2013-07-22 12:00:0043

Paul Pavlinovich20,463Join us for another anniversary walk with all the usual and plenty of new faces from the Melbourne Photowalkers community.Walk starts and finishes at Collingwood Station. Food is available at The People's Market (expect to be there around 3pm) and after the official walk end at back near the town hall many of us will continue to the The Retreat Hotel for dinner and  beer. Here is the route https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212211852192101909727.0004d81878e69719df99d&msa=0&ll=-37.803952,144.990327&spn=0.016598,0.033023It's not as long as it looks. Note I've changed the times to ensure we can get into The People's Market which is absolutely brilliant. We'll be going past loads of laneways with amazing street art which are not marked on the route (a few are). If you want to make your walk longer feel free to diverge down the laneways.Suggestions:. There is an urbex site - use commonsense and make your own choices. Down the laneways travel in at least pairs - this is a fairly dodgy place sometimes - this means you Margaret Wong!Google Anniversary Photowalk *COLLINGWALK*2013-03-23 03:00:0054

Paul Pavlinovich20,463Maribyrnong River Afternoon Photo WalkDUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS WALK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO AFTERNOON. IF YOU SHOW UP AT DAWN YOU WILL BE LONELY, COLD AND WETWhen: Saturday 2nd Feb Where: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212211852192101909727.0004d29a33b5533122c8a&msa=0Time: Starts 1.00pm at Quarry Park in Footscray  Station Finish 6.00pm near Newport on the river. Dedicated souls might like to continue to Williamstown for Dinner, I will be.This walk is in an industrial and park area along the river. An area in renaissance as it is reborn from Melbourne's industrial and ports to residential and small cottage industries. There are river views, port views, bridges, amazing graffiti. At the beginning we'll be treated to a fantastic sunrise over the city skyline directly along the river from our vantage point in Quarry Park.Quarry Park can be entered from Owens St. Very limited parking at both. Parking at Newport (or Williamstown if you're going to walk that far) then car pooling up to the walk start would be advisable.Things to know:. there are no public dunnies you'd actually want to use. there is nowhere to get water. Since its a long one carpooling and making arrangements to get a some cars to the finish would be a good ideaMaribyrnong Afternoon Photo Walk2013-02-02 03:00:1510

Lady Fran W7,289Can you make an ordinary running kitchen tap look fab? This challenge came about following a conversation in a thread with +Megan Huddle (thanks for the inspiration babe!). Whilst on a recent trip to New Zealand, I got my very first 'soft milky water' shot of a stream, and purely by luck. I had no ND filter, no tripod, just good light and a little bridge to lean the camera on. See here - http://goo.gl/Vpz58I'm now obsessed with trying out this kind of photography wherever I go. I'm searching for streams, waterfalls, beaches, you name it. +Megan Huddle suggested I could make anything look good (uber flattered). .. and so the challenge came about. A camera, an idea, and a plain old running tap in the kitchen sink.    Can you make it look fab?   I think you can. Work your magic. Show us what you’ve got.Any camera, and setting, any processing. It’s all open to your imagination and creativity.Sooooo, why not give it a go?  There's no prizes I'm afraid. No rewards. (Unless some super generous sponsor out there wants to throw something in as incentive.) Otherwise, it's all about the glowing recognition, compliments and praise from your G+ peers. Due date: 11:30pm, Friday 8 December Saturday 9 December -----------------------------------------------------------PS PUBLIC EVENT! - Apparently one can't invite large numbers of guests to an event (ie big circles), soooo, please feel free to forward this around and get people involved. =)Photo challenge - A simple tap2012-12-08 13:30:0072

Gailen Mapes70,942Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Canon Camera N-Q - 9 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to November 7th for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting October 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles   #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcircles             Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +Gailen Mapes .   Thanks for your cooperation.2014-11-09 11:33:10131614

hmm turns out you can't take a 600mm lens or a "black" camera to the soccer, black is professional apparently... oh well the rest of the family went to the soccer, I went to play down the beach.

it's hard to do Street with a bazooka. people seem to notice.

The really simple steps I follow to producing an image that I'm happy with when shooting a human subject.

Read on if you're interested. Unlike some who seem to have forgotten the simple joy of helping others there are no catches, no strings, the entire tutorial is there for you to view free. I don't even want your personal details, you can keep them, they're yours.

Feedback and re-shares are always welcome.

Isn't it funny that when you call someone on troll behaviour like passive aggressive or overly sensitive to criticism when they say they're the best but quite clearly aren't suddenly you're the troll. Amusement. Mine mostly, they're probably quite pissy about it :)

More than two years ago I took my very first star trails image (shown here) and wrote a post on shooting star trails. I’ve learnt a lot since then and as I’ve been shooting stars (Milky Way) and star trails recently plus there has been some interest in learning strategies and technique for this, I thought I’d put together a series of more detailed posts on the topic.

This first post (follow link below) will go through some of the gear selection and planning for shooting stars. In a follow up post I’ll cover the in the field technique and settings to use to take the images.

Sadly while google do nothing to stem the violation of their TOS people will just keep doing it. The ball is in your court Google.

Quote: "When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works [...], communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content."

(see https://www.google.com/policies/terms/ section Your Content in our Services, second sentence.)

Addition, from further down in the same paragraph: "Make sure you have the necessary rights to grant us this license for any content that you submit to our Services."

But if you are not the rights owner of something that you upload to Google+, how can you grant Google a license to it? Well, you can't! You are infringing the copyright of the artist whose work you upload to your account, and you're also violating Google's Terms of Service.

So if you see something that you like, share the link and everything is cool.

PLEASE RESHARE. THANKS!___Sadly while google do nothing to stem the violation of their TOS people will just keep doing it. The ball is in your court Google.

Quick rough up of the foam cliff that that has to transition the track from 140mm to 280mm high, it looks steep but achievable. The middle will end up being a bit steeper as the transition off the (eventual) trestle bridge needs to be fairly level to avoid trains on the floor. Behind the cliff will be a scenery divider making the Walhalla like cliff climb a scene by itself divorced from the town behind it on the peninsula. On the town side the track will climb a bank until it transitions onto the curved trestle bridge.

Trying to figure out if three levels with only 140mm vertical clearance between the top two is workable. I can easily gain the 280mm height change without going over 5% on the peninsula with a dog bone but I can't change more than 200mm between level 2 and level 3 without having an intermediate level and even then it's a double switchback - operationally fun and only geared locomotives will go to level 3 (not that their stronger in model world they're weak as).

Now that summer is nearly here I think it's time to return to St Kilda for a summer meander. The exact route will be formulated later and if you've T suggestions then let me know. Have some munchies before the walk.

features will include
- beach front walk
- sunset by the pier
- a visit to the penguins at the end of the pier
- Luna Park after dark
- The espy facade and the two esplanades

If we're lucky the fire spinners might be there?___It's time to kick the summer season into gear.

Juxtaposition
On the day of the photowalk we were all commenting on how ugly the 60's PoV and treasurey buildings were up close to their 1800's counterparts. However, now that I've seen the print I actually get it. Together the three 60's buildings are overwhelming and ugly, but this angle taken alone I understand - the architect was actually trying to reflect the 1800's building next door. It really does work.

The great #straya tradition. I put out my rubbish and someone else takes it home. Gone already (less than a couple of hours) both bikes, both computer cases that had mobo in them (the empties are still there), both welders, the old ac-3 pre-amplifier and just about anything that could remotely have had copper in it. That's ok, now there's more room for more stuff since I'd reached my limit. Round two coming up.

I do often wonder what tourists to the Dandenongs think this next couple of weeks during the hard rubbish collection. Place looks like a tip and anything but picturesque.
