What a weekend, taken on the bus as I am running between gallery openings. #streetphotography

I just got off the bus this afternoon and saw this patch of light. It took some time to wait for the traffic to clear, one of the difficulties of shooting towards the street. #streetphotography

A lot of photographs have been taken on this street corner, there is nothing particularly amazing about it. There is nice afternoon light, plenty of room to move and is one of the main walkways to darling harbour. But the real reason so many photos have been taken on this corner is that one of Sydneys major camera stores is just around the corner. #streetphotography

Australian Photojournalism Challenge
This is the second year that the +The Sydney Morning Herald is running its 1440 challenge. Registration opens soon, where by they will send you a brief to shoot, this year the response will be a photo essay.
The only condition on entering is that you need to be an Australian resident.
Where does the 1440 comes from, well it is the number of minutes in a day.

How do you use Colour?
Most of what I post here is in Black and White as I find unless done correctly colour is often a distraction in my photographs. But this is well worth the read, if you are able to control the situation of your photography.

A Cool day in Newtown.
I found some old Ansel Adams books and picked up 4 of them for $20 at the Newtown markets. But the deal of the day came with the Nikkor 24mm f2.8D for the bargin price of $40!
A guy in one of the second hand shops just got a bag of camera stuff Nikon f4, Nikon f90X both with battery corrosion and I could not get the mechanical shutter speed to fire, a Nikon SB 25, Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 push pull with fungus growth, a 28-70mm f2.8 once again with fungus, Nikkor 35mm f2.8 with massive fungus growth, and an old school flash light meter that looks in good nick.
I check the lens before hand and it looks in good nik besides the scratch on the focus distance window.

Behind the ABC building, taken on my way to teach a class. So far I have never had a student ask me why I have a camera in my maths classes.

Smoky Sunset
This is why I always have a camera with me, taken on the train heading back home on Sunday afternoon. I saw there was some smoke earlier in this trip so I changed seats in preparation for this shot. I was lucky to find a window that did not have too many scratches on it. #australia

WorldWide Pin Hole day http://www.pinholeday.org/
Who needs glass when you can make a tiny hole in something and stick it infront of some film or a sensor.
The first few shots are from a pinhole attachment for a Nikon Mount. I use a Nikon 700 with a f128 pinhole.
The last two shots are of my big 6x12 film pinhole camera which is f250. Will have to get that developed tomorrow. #pinhole #pinholeday

Sunday Picnics
Had a lot of fun lounging around in the Sunday afternoon sun with fellow Sydney photographers (I am not going to tag you all). I did not take too many photos but I was just happy to be there chillin and assisting where needed.
Besides models, and circus performers +Keith McInnes was able to arrange some fire twirlers to come along. It was great to see how +Rodney Campbell goes about doing his light painting, some one worth following if you have not all ready. #WalkCentennialPark

The Story Behind the Shot
I have digging through the archives and I was moving some photos off the Samsung to my computer when I saw a couple that I was meaning to post the story behind the shot. #bondi2013 #seeaustralia
It would be great if every one could share a story behind a shot from that day #storybehindtheshot .
I was walking along with +Rodney Campbell trying to catch up to every one else and we walk past this couple kissing. In my head I am going that would be a cool shot, and the street photog in me was screaming that I should have been ready to grab the shot as I walked by. I keep on walking about 10 paces onwards thinking I just have to go back and get that shot. Of course when I get back there they have stopped kissing.
Not being perturbed, I just explained that I was a photographer and I would like to take a photo of them kissing, which the... more »

It is hard being a photogtapher some times. A long day working with some beautiful models, and a great stylist and makeup artist.
This is the only shot I took with the Samsung galaxy camera, I will share some more later after I download and process the rest of them with you all soon.

Blurb in Oz during May
+Blurb Books will be holding some events and workshops in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. I have been to one of their meetups before and it was a good way to see what all the different papers and book styles look and feel like in person.

Words in Photos
Generally advertising, or street signs are the bane of a street photographer as our brains are wired to look at that first (some times second) so it can distract from the photograph. However some times you can play with the sign to try and plant an idea into the viewers head. #streetphotography
Have you got any successful shots that use this idea?

The Highest Point of Australia
I finally got around to processing some IR film I shot a year ago from a trip to Mount Kosciusko. This is actually the at the top so what you see here are some people having lunch at the peak.
The shot on the left was shot with a R72 filter that only lets in IR, the other one on the left was with out the filter. I was usling Rollei IR film with a Nikon FM2.

Coogee Island Challenge
It is a tough 2.4km ocean swim out and around wedding cake island from Coogee beach. I would never even consider doing this as I think the furthest I have ever gone continuously (with no flippers) is 200m
What is the furthest you have ever swam?

Holi Festival in Sydney
Armed with my little waterproof point and shoot I headed down to Darling Harbour to try and get some awesome shots of Holi, in particular the colour. It was a little bit smaller then I was expecting but it was still fun.

Now this is street art! Right down on Coogee beach. It was interesting to watch him work, the painting is much like what us phitigtaphers would call a miniwirld but he shaped his more as a jelly bean. How much longer before us photographers get tired of the sphere and move onto other shapes.

Bondi Flash Mob
Last Thursday we headed out to Bondi with some fellow G+'s +Ana Andres, +Keith McInnes, +Jason Baker, +Steve Reddock, and insatiable +Natalie Ralston to take some photos at several an impromptu Fashion shoots stage in the hotel rooms.
These at my 4 favourite shots from the night, I have have this first one in my head for a while now, so happy I got the chance to take it.
