|Drink and Click™ SYD||351||Hi all! It's rhino time in Sydney at the moment so let's go on a little safari in this concrete jungle :) There are many colourful sculptures of rhinos around the CBD, which will make for interesting photography subjects. See here for more information: http://taronga.org.au/wild-rhinos We'll meet this *Sunday 23rd Feb at 4pm at the Edingburgh Castle Hotel Pub* (294 Pitt St, http://goo.gl/maps/0lMVb) for a couple of drinks. I have never been to this pub before but it looks good in Google maps and we can explore it together :) Then at 5pm we'll start walking around the city down towards Circular Quay and we will finish of at my favourite pub on the Rocks: The Orient Hotel (89 George St, http://goo.gl/maps/H2aqe), where we will have more drinks and/or dinner. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday :) Cheers, @117952679558330801895 ----------------------------------- This month's Chaper Wide Challenge is Rule of Thirds. |Mykal Hall||522,860||+101145980349117737014 and +115105647022907007398 are here in Australia for a workshop in Port Stephens hosted by +111465359080289844494 on the 3-5 Jan 2014. I have twisted their arms to do a photowalk here in +104262770460851770269 on the 11 January 2014. So lets show our guest the welcome the Sydney Photo Community has to offer. We will meet on the steps in front of the Sydney Opera House at 6.30pm and slowly make our way to Hickson Rd Reserve for sunset and then to the end point at Observatory Hill by 9pm. I have plotted a few photo opportunity locations along the route as well as public toilets that I know of. https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zw_eAURDDMag.kLJfMBZmQ50o There are plenty of food outlets to grab a quick bite to eat at Circular Quay for the journey. I have walked the route in 1hr 40mins at a leisurely pace but you may want to stay at one location longer if you desire. That will be fine as long as we all get together at the start to greet Jay and Varina and then at the end point to say our goodbyes. Then afterwards if you still feel in the mood to chat over a drink we will be heading to The Hero of Waterloo (if there is only a small group) or the Harbour View Hotel (if there are more than the Hero can fit). I recommend catching public transport to Circular Quay or Town Hall but if you drive in there are a few parking stations within a short walk to the Opera House. I suggest downloading the "Cheap Parking App" from the Google playstore or iTunes. This will give you pricing options from closest or cheapest and links to get to them. I hope everyone has a great time during the walk socialising and remember you can approach Jay, Varina and myself at anytime to ask any questions. Please share this with anyone you may know who would want to join us. :))) Looking forward to see you all and don't forget the hash tag #PatelSydneyPhotowalk +107073852799630124249 ||Jay and Varina Patel Sydney Photowalk||2014-01-11 18:30:00||141|

|Drink and Click™ SYD||351||EDIT: Notice the time change from Saturday to Sunday. Cheers! --------------------- Hi Sydney drinkandclickers! As some of you might know the *Art and About* festival is on in Sydney at the moment. As part of the festival there are *giant brightly coloured snails* scattered about the city. We'll go to see a few of the snails and stop in some pubs along the way, keep on reading for a more detailed itinerary: We'll meet on *Saturday* the *12th of October* at *4.30pm* at the *3 Wise Monkeys Pub* (http://goo.gl/maps/IEVQd) for a drink to start of a fantastic evening of photography. Then at 5.00pm we'll go past the _QVB orange snail,_ down the _Pitt St yellow snails_ on to the _Martin Place blue and yellow snails._ After that we will find another pub to have a couple of drinks. Perhaps Bar 333 or another one, I'm open to suggestions :) Also, October's worldwide Drink and Click challenge is *"Shadows"*. You can submit any images taking during this Drink and Click event to the event (hasn't been created yet) for a chance to win great prizes! I reckon there will be a lot of shadows to photograph around these giant snails :) Everyone is welcome to join us, wether you use a DSLR, iPhone, film or any kind of camera, come for some snaily action! However, it is compulsory to have a drink too (it can be beer, cider, coke, water or anything you like) :) I'm super excited about going to see the snails again with all you guys!! |Sydney||2,492,673||Art and About is Sydney's most public, collaborative art festival. It takes place from 20 September through 20 October in the streets and public spaces of Sydney and invites you to get involved . Commencing Friday, 20 September, Martin Place turns into an outdoor theatre with live music and performance. Then for the month following you'll find art, photography, performances, stories and installations all over the city. Make sure you head to Hyde Park North for a stroll through an avenue of photography in Sydney Life and Little Sydney Lives - large-scale photos of the city captured through the lenses of Sydneysiders, young and old. Snailovation - giant two-metre snails in eye-popping colours will be in the city's most public places and they will capture your hearts and imagination and much more! |Drink and Click™ SYD||351||Hi Drink and Clickers!! As per @116655665215197122412's request the next Drink and Click Sydney is finally here!! (sorry for the short notice). It has come to my attention (cheers to @113333047738251078279 for that) today that next sunday the 8th of September is the *Festival of the Winds at Bondi Beach.* http://www.waverley.nsw.gov.au/things_to_do/places_of_interest/bondi_pavilion/annual_attractions/festival_of_the_winds If to an aready awesome beach you add the hopefully nice -winter- spring weather (these Australians have weird notions of when the seasons change) and lots of colourful kites in the sky the result is bound to be magical!! :) To change things up a little bit from other events I've hosted in the past this is going to be a *lunchtime Drink and Click.* Let's meet up at *12pm* at the *Bondi Hotel* (http://goo.gl/maps/f4AxF) for a nice pub meal and a couple of drinks. This way it is easier for us all to group at the pub first and head to the beach all together instead of trying to find eachother amidst the drowds. If you are new or never tried Street Photography never fear I will help you get started with a small introductory workshop on how to get started. |Sydney on Fire||27||What? Fire twirling is a group of performance arts or disciplines that involve the manipulations of objects on fire. Equipment most commonly used includes staff, poi, fans, hoops, rope darts and skipping ropes to name a few. The current world record for the Most People Fire Twirling is currently set at 117 people. This event looks to SMASH that record by having 150+ participants manipulate objects on fire for a minimum of 3 minutes. Where? Miranda park on the corner of Sylvania Rd and The Kingsway will be our location for the World Record. Settled within the Shire, this location ties our World Record attempt to the people and the communities who loved and supported Talin and his family through devastating times. Who? Sydney on Fire is a group of volunteers united by Talin. This group of volunteers have worked tirelessly to make this event a success. From a small group of organisers this event has grown to include circus societies, baton twirling clubs, members of the fire twirling communities and members of the public keen on learning how to twirl so that they too can participate. Those interested in participating should head to the How You Can Help page and register their interest. All participants will be required to read and understand the safety rules and demonstrate their ability to twirl competently. When? Sunday 11th of November Why? Talin, as with all children, was far too young to be taken from this world. Bear Cottage supported Talin and his family through the difficult times they had to endure. By sponsoring this event and Bear Cottage you are doing your part to help an organistation that helps kids and their families through nthe hardships of terminal illnesses. Warmth, comfort, strength, a safe-guard, passion and risk are all associated with the element of Fire. It is through fire that we remember the strength and beauty of a young boy and fortify our position as a wider community who safe-guards those in need.||Fire Twirling Guinness World Record Attempt||2012-11-11 17:30:00||39|
|Drink and Click™ SYD||351||UPDATE (25/10/12) Hi Sydney Drink and Clickers!! The first photography pub crawl is just 2 days away!! These are the final details: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Meet at 5PM at FIRST FLEET PARK, at THE ROCKS. (http://goo.gl/Zje94) ----------------------------------------------------------------- From there we will walk to the Australian Heritage Hotel for a few drinks and dinner for whoever is hungry. At around 7 or 7.30pm we will head to the Walsh Bay Wharfs to shoot the sunset and afterwards the plan is to go to the Lord Nelson Brewery to continue the pub crawl. After that we will improvise! I haven't been able to book tables so there is a chance that the venues will change if we don't fit into the pubs. In any case I will keep posting on the event so everyone can find us :) Hope to see you all this weekend! @117952679558330801895 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (05/10/12) Hi everybody!! The first Drink and Click SYD is still a couple of weeks away but I want to get everything ready and organised ASAP so then we can just concentrate on having fun :) I was thinking we could go first to the Australian Heritage Hotel and then to the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel, is that ok with everyone? Also, since over 40 people have clicked attending so far I'm going to see if I can book tables for us to ensure we have room for a nice drink. This is why I wanted to ask you to check your calendar again and if you can't make it change your status to MAYBE or NOT GOING, that way I'll have a more accurate idea of how many people we will be. Cheers! @117952679558330801895 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- WELCOME TO THE FIRST DRINK AND CLICK IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA. I am @117952679558330801895 and I will be organising this event. The idea is to go on a pubcrawl (about 3 pubs) and take our cameras. I have yet to think of the exact places and I've set the start time to 5pm but this may change as the day gets closer. If this is a succesfull event we will have more pubcrawls in other areas of Sydney. If you are interested and can make it on the 27th of October please click "Attending" so I can get and idea of how many people we are going to be. So very tempted, shame the sensor is not a full 6x6, or even close to it. Though it is bigger than full frame at least.

Just started playing with a little app called timera. Let's you blend geotagged old images with ones you take with the app. It also has an overlay which is quite handy.

Some one died here today
Walking around Haymarket today and came across this. A bus had mounted the curb and crashed into the side of a restaurant killing a pedestrian. When I got there life was going on as normal around.
The busker that is always there was there on the other side of the tape doing what he normally does every afternoon.
People were stopping to look at the bus, taking a photo. Then moving on with there afternoon.
Today some one died here.

Queue, Light, Shadows and... Action
When you find a nice spot with some interesting light I like to hang around for as long as I can, sometimes the light goes, or the action fades. Even some times people will avoid the area as they noticed a crazy photographer there.

Gotta love 6400 ISO
Before doing some light painting with +Alexander Kesselaar or +Lightpaint Lab I took some shots of Bondi beach right on dusk. As you can imagine you are on a beach aftersun set a long way from any lighting source so it is quite liberating being able to shoot at such high ISO.

Come in Spinner
Today it is ANZAC day celebrating all the service men and women who have served Australia over the past 99 years.
The phrase come in spinner come from a shoulders gambling game call 2up which involves betting on the outcome of tossing two coins and can only be legally played in public on Anzac Day.

Is Journalistic Integrity demonising?
In short a UK paper used a stock image (from the US) of a girl crying that was linked to an article about how many are so poor they struggle to eat every day.
For me even though it has good intentions it is totally wrong for anyone to use an image so out of context.
What do you think?

Now that daylight saving is over I might have to go back to playing around with camera movement again. While the technique is simple trying to make is something 'more' is tricky.

Does it have to be in focus?
In short no. The longer answer is more complicated, it needs to be recognisable. This should would be worse off by her no looking at you but having her out of focus helps with the layering effect so the image has more depth.

Make your own story
I like making shots like this where you are not quite sure what is going on. You can make your own story out of them.
Tell me yours, but keep it clean enough that you would tell you children or mother.
