The onset of Monsoons in India changes the mood of the country. There are smiles on everyone's faces despite all the clogged roads.  Piping hot chai (Indian tea) and pakodas (a fried snack) are the requests of the season. Grown-ups turn into children splashing water and making paper boats.

This is my favorite season....fills me with so much  happiness. Makes me want to write poetry again. Sigh

Meanwhile, here is an effort from the Ministry of Kerala  to capture the essence of how beautiful it is just not in Kerala but truly India. Gesture doesn't quiet work well for me though.

Is there more to Indian sports than Cricket? Apparently not
Great read on what happens to Indians who dare to dream beyond Cricket. Apparently the country knows and supports only one sport and all others be damned. 

+Gaurav Shinde is a personal friend and I've seen his battle to fulfill his dream. I've seen the struggle because of lack of funds. Seriously, might as well abolish all sports from the country. Why bother!

There are more vegetarians in India than the rest of the world combined. 

According to the Hindu-CNN-IBN State of the Nation Survey (few years ago), 31% of Indians are vegetarians, while another 9% consumes eggs.
Other surveys cited by FAO and USDA  estimate 20%–42% of the Indian population as being vegetarian. 

These surveys indicate that even Indians who do eat meat, do so infrequently, with less than 30% consuming it regularly, although the reasons are mainly cultural.

India has devised a system of marking edible products made from only vegetarian ingredients, with a green dot in a green square. A mark of a brown/red dot in a brown/red square conveys that some animal-based ingredients were used.

Indian student with a visual impairment cannot study in his own country

Some people don't need to have a visual impairment to be blind. JEE (Joint entrance exam) for several  premier schools in India doesn't make allowances for folks with accessibility issues.  Disgusting.

Small steps to solve big issues
I'm sure this was posted while I was gone, but it brought tears to my eyes. My family had to move during the partition and I would often hear my grandma tell me tales of Pakistan or Sindh at that time .. this ad /technology talks about so many possibilities. If something like this was around when my grandma was alive, I can just imagine her tearing up at seeing someone from the other side.
