When she opens her folds to the light,
Some see what is revealed as an invitation,
Others only see her inevitable, impending rejection of them;
Some see what they know they can never have and desire her all the more,
Others see only what they will try again and again to take for themselves (even in the face of failures),
But ... some ... see ... her ... glory ...
And settle their eyes on the illumination of the wonder that she even is.

Looks like a dog spitting ... don't ya think?
I came across a blog today that was showcasing some of my photos. They titled the post, Cute Nathan Wirth Photography. Hmmm ... does that mean that I am cute? Or does it mean that my photography is cute? Or, maybe, that both my photography and me are cute? Ahhhh ... the true mysteries of life ...
Any Bay Area photographers want to guess where I took this image?

On October 6th, 2010, Juno award winning, Canadian Jazz greats David Braid (piano) and Phil Nimmons (clarinet) improvised some wonderful, spontaneously-realized jazz compositions in front of an audience at Petro-Canada Hall in Newfoundland, Canada. David asked me to provide some images for the CD booklet, seven of which appear at the beginning of this video. The rest of the images also fit the overall theme of the sea that resonates throughout this wonderful recording of that evening's music.
David and Phil will be releasing the CD to the public soon (and it includes a small book of my eight images-- all printed on high quality paper); meanwhile, you can view some of my long exposure seascapes (quite a few that I have kept on my hard drive until now) while you listen to this wonderful, improvised interview between David's piano and Phil's clarinet.

Title: self & mandolin
So ... every once in a while I pull out my Gibson mandolin, which, rather remarkably, was made in 1916, and I diddle a tune or two. I should, however, confess that I am an undisciplined, unpracticed and messy picker. And before you go and say that I am just being humble, let me just say that I am most definitely an unimpressive musician. I am ... I just am. I am willing to admit that from time to time I can take a picture or two worth looking at, and, as a writer, I can turn a phrase or two when necessary, but the musical genes were not infused into my personage ... that said, I was playing this tune when I took this shot ...

I hope you all enjoy reading the interview as much as I did giving it-- and feel free to share this post with your friends and contacts.

Title: Rosenberg Library Study Number 1
So ... yup ... this is the Louise & Claude Rosenberg, Jr. Library, which resides on the Ocean Campus of the City College of San Francisco, where I happen to teach English composition. It really is not much to look at ... but I have tried to create a series of infrared images that highlight its features in such a way that it seems at least somewhat interesting.
So ... yes ... this is yet another one of my series ... yadda yadda yadda ... zzzzzzzzz ... I personally like the fluffy clouds ... I wish I could eat them. Yup ...
Thanks for looking!
PS I have tried to upload this in a timely fashion so that +Sandra Parlow can feel free to go to sleep early enough to harness all the regenerative powers of a good night's rest ...

Hi everybody. Happy Tuesday to you all. I just got back from an amazing 5 day trip to San Fran to attend the +A Slice of Time - SF Bay Photowalk 2013. I met so many cool people and shot at so many great locations.
A massive thanks must go to my dear friend +Nathan Wirth who organized the Photowalk...it was a ginormous success!!
Nathan mentioned that as the Photowalk was largely geared towards Long Exposure photography, it would be a good time to re-share my "best of the best" Long Exposure photography circle, which includes some of the folks that attended the Photowalk.
Here are a few examples of the amazing photogs in this circle;
+Nathan Wirth
+Steve-Maxx landeros
+Marc Koegel
+Athena Carey
+Joel Tjintjelaar
+Cole Thompson
Please re-share this circle and spread the LE love.
Many thanks.

black II - abstract black
New Acropolis Museum, Athens – Architect Bernard Tschumi (shot during Athens Architectural Workshop, Nov 2012)
“I’ve been forty years discovering that the queen of all colors was black.”- Auguste Renoir
I've always had a strong affinity for the color black. When I was little and someone would ask us the kids what color we like I never knew what to answer because I was thinking: I like black, but black is not a color (that's what I kept hearing for years in a row) so I would every time answer something different: blue, green, orange and so on, just to say something that was considered “right”. And even now, every other color that I like and impresses me comes after black.
Black is the absence of light, they say. I say black is the hidden light, it's the absorbed mysterious light, it's a promise and a question at the same tim... more »
