Nicolas Amelio-Ortiz47060 CINEMATOGRAPHERSEverybody in the film business, low or high-budget, knows that cinematographers are a key piece for a film to be shot. Without them, most of films wouldn't have the amazing colors, tones and camera movements that inspire us every time we go to the movies. To all of them, thank you very much. Here's my tribute to you: a circle of 60 great cinematographers from around the world. Since I did the cinematography for my first feature film The Flaying (https://plus.google.com/102488003500638702528/posts), I also included myself there. If you are a cinematographer, please let me know so I can add you here!2012-04-07 14:44:02611001CC G+

I've always used Reddit is Fun. It hasn't really done me wrong, I like the simpleness of it and how it packs a lot of info on the screen. Can anyone give me any reason to look into these other apps?

A short film that I had shot finally released online, coincidentally very close after the trailer for The Call staring Halle Barry. Both films deal with police dispatchers but in very different ways. We'd love some feed back on our short.

Since Google+ has now approved pages for business, I have set up one for my site, The Black and Blue. Right now, I'm not sure how it will play into how I use Google+ personally as myself, but we will see going forward. If you want to join me on that journey, please add The Black and Blue to your circles

It's interesting to read this article from a filmmaker point of view. I still want to create a video game before I die, I wonder if I can somehow use my cinematography background to my advantage in that medium.

A great way to start you day, reading about the history of lens design and how all modern lenses are basically built from the same 6 designs.

Personal pet peeve of mine, when people give me undeserved congratulations on projects that I've done that I think (key were I) weren't that great. I guess I'm just in that slump, but I'd rather be there than think I can't do any wrong.

Silly rigs. Downtime on this San Fran shoot, I just had to try this. AF 100 with 35mm CCTV C Mount lens. The image isn't bad at all, just looks so silly. But 12-100 Cooke on the same camera and it looks just as silly.

I am drawn to projects where people treat visuals in a non traditional way. Everyone has seen skate videos on youtube shot with low tech cameras and shaky handheld, but this takes the sports we think we've seen to a completely different level. You'll see extreme weather that makes difficult performance/shooting conditions, check this out if you have the time.

Yeah, it is also a Nike ad but put that aside for a minute.

Sometimes you forget that we get to see some awesome places because we make films. This part of a short I gaffed was 6 stories up on the north side of downtown. We had a great sunset to say the least.

What would you do if you had 250 dollars to spend on Sony products? I've never bought much from Sony besides a PS2 so I'm not familiar with their line of products. Right now I'm contemplating a PSP of some sort to finally play some of the games I've always wanted like the remake of Final Fantasy Tactics and a few other great RPGs that didn't make it to the DS. The Google TV they have is cool but I don't think I'd watch a lot of TV (even if it's on the internet) to warrant me spending another 150 with my gift cards. Any thoughts?

I had to light this location for a night exterior the other day. Without giving too much away of the story, it's basically a fight scene. The biggest issue was power, we had a genny ready to go but I wanted to stick to available power for sound's purposes and to keep voltage lose to a minimum. I don't have any photo's really of how it looked but I'm happy how I utilized the building and environment to our advantage. We didn't have the greatest G&E package but we got the job done.

The oddest thing about G+ is that my twitter account is totally public so I'm used to have anything being looked at by anyone. It's weird now having the ability to choose what not (possibly) for people to see. I think I might not use that option as much as I thought I would. Time will tell I guess. If this does become my new facebook I think I'd want to control who see's stuff I share just to save them the hassle of dealing with the weird range of stuff I might post.

Fun fact for the mobile app. You can go into the instant picture upload settings and have it upload all the video/pictures on your phone to a private album on google+. Right now I'm syncing all the photos off my phone via wifi.
