Fantastic interview on #Twist  with +Jason Calacanis  and Andy Rachleff. I love his 25 year analysis of successful founders and CEOs "You don't have to be a jerk to succeed just because many who have succeeded have acted like jerks". Sadly too many young founders are emulating young Steve Jobs who was mean as a snake early in his career before getting fired and changing his ways. 
In many ways, Jason has had a similar path. Some would say Jason was not the sweet, funny raconteur he is today early in his career (I thought he was an arrogant braggart before I started watching his shows and learned otherwise).

Really enjoyed having +PandoDaily's Sarah Lacy on the program. We became friendly when we had dinner at +Loic Le Meur and +Geraldine LeMeur's amazing  +LeWeb conference six or seven years ago, spending more time over the years when +michael arrington and I ran the @techcrunch conferences together. She's always been a great writer, and now she's becoming a fantastic entrepreneur. 

Very much suggest watching this great interview... anyone have a favorite moment?

I met with Neil at his ranch to hear the vision for the Pono player--it's awesome. He drove me around in his old Caddy and showed me the difference between Mp3, CD and higher-end formats. We're leaving a lot of texture in our music out because we're stuck with an old format that was made before the recent storage and bandwidth booms. I encouraged Neil to put the Pono player 1.0 on Kickstarter and sell 1,000 signature ones for $1,000 each with a ticket to a private show. Raise $1m and bring together 1,000 of the world best fans. Awesome vision from a legend. I hope it works.

Happy to report that Mahalo's Chord Master app, for learning how to play guitar chords, is in the top 50 for two game categories in day two! 

That basically gets you a 1k+ downloads in a day--which is nice--but it's not huge. I think you really have to get into the top 10.

Another major milestone: our Pride and Prejudice iBook has been featured on the top level in iTunes! this is the first time Apple has done this and we're just blown away by it.

Mahalo has been working hard to transition from our start in Human Powered Search (a fabulously, moderately successful venture that we've shuttered) to a educational company. As part of that we're making +YouTube videos, but we're also making complimentary apps.

The latest App is called Mahalo's Chord Master and it's very simple: it teachers you to play guitar chords. It's like Bejewled meets guitar instruction--and it works!

I was at a campfire last week and i picked up a friends guitar and i could play like 7 of the 10 +Bob Dylan songs we played! Of course, Dylan songs all use the same six chords. :-p

Really amazing that our partner Youtube has given us the ability to provide these workout five days a week.... for free! We've taken our video production to the next level by hiring a bunch of really amazingly talented video editors, directors, motion graphics and writers. While I admire +Sergey Brin's efforts with +Google Glass and self driving cars, I think that he and +Larry Page smartest project is the simplest: Google Fiber.

Google could afford to give Fiber and/or Wifi to 80% of America living in urban areas for about $100 each a year/$1,000 every ten.

That's $25,000,000,000 a year in costs, but Americans would gladly pay $10 a month each, so 100% of the cost would be covered. If only half paid and you throttled the rest to lower speeds you would get the same result. 

Apple, Microsoft and Google should be focused on this issue. The telcos are busted and need to be displaced.

Really happy for +Marissa Mayer and +Zachary Bogue on the announcement of their first child.... as well as M2 getting the Captain Chair over Yahoo! 

I've said for a long time the only thing that could save Yahoo was a passionate, hardworking, product or content (and content is a product) executive. 

I'm shocked that they actually took the bold step to hire a product genius in her prime. Normally the CEO slot goes to some MBA or Sales exec who lives in a spreadsheet.... Y! has a fighting chance now that someone can actually look at the homepage, email and search products and say "man, this sucks and we need to do X, Y and Z yesterday!"

Good look double M... you're going to rock it!!!!

What an amazing run at the World Series of Poker. 1,000 of 6,700, and my friend +Kevin Pollak is still in it with less than 400 players. Next year I'm going to crush it!

Having an awesome time at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. 

I made it through day one with $32k. peaked at $47k, low was $21k. 

Playing very strong, confident, aggressive but with patience. 

I love paling in this tournament... a flow experience for me.

Congrats to the Sequoia Capital on 40 years (!!!) of supporting founders.

What an amazing team! They've supported me through many ups and downs of being an entrepreneur and launched my angel investing career. If you're starting a company don't hesitate reaching out to the team. They have a very intimidating track record (Google, Apple, YouTube, etc), but they couldn't be more down to earth.

+Sebastian Thrun was one of the top 10 guests in the history of +ThisWeekinStartups according to fans.

Loved having him on the show..... can't believe how easily we are now getting the top Founders/CEOs/VCs on the show. Such a great feeling that after 270 episodes people are getting so much value from these converstations.

RANDOM THOUGHTS (day two... two in a row!) 

Building off of yesterday's post on "value," let's look at what's really annoying in our lives. 

Today let's look at "easy" 

Things that were HARD and are now EASY:

1. Having to wonder where my car service was at the airport (15-30 minutes of anxiety), paying the driver (wasted 10 minutes) and pleading with the driver to drive reasonably so I don't get car sick!

Uber solved all of that... for a 35-50% discount. 

2. Booking a cheap hotel room quickly.

HotelTonight and the Starwood App now makes this happen in a few short clicks. 

3. Letting my admin and/or wife know how long I would be.

Glympse has made that go away with two or three clicks.

I've been really thinking about "value" when it comes to products. 

Consumers today are getting absurd value for their dollar:

1. Angry Birds is .99 and it gives you at least hours of awesome. .10 per hour of awesome / That's just 1/6th of one penny per minute of joy!

2. Instagram and Pinterest are free and providing huge joy to tens of millions of folks. $0.00 per minute of joy.

3. The iPad is now $399 and people use it for a couple of hours a day. Let's say just one hour a day of iPad for two years. That's 730 hours of joy per hour. If you sell the device for $150 after two years (which is what the resale value would be two years in), your cost of ownership was $250-- or .34 cents an hour! 

4. Going to the movies for $14 in Los Angeles provides 120 minutes of joy (best case), or $7 an hour.more »
