"Venice Wedding" a painting by Robin Griggs Wood for +First Friday Art Walk
Sometimes, in teaching myself to paint, I like to try and replicate a style. This is one of those; based on the mood and feel of some of the old masters and their use of light and suggestive brushstrokes over meticulous realism.
Emulation is a great method for honing your skills (in any artistic endeavor, including photography) and I recommend it to my students all the time. Emulation helps to train your eye and it fosters mere "doing", which is the key to growth in all creative undertakings.
You can do it, too. If you want to become better at your art, try emulating the work of another.
And I would add that, whatever your dreams and aspirations are, you are no different from any other human being on this planet, you have within you the capacity to succeed. I ... more »

+Google+ Help!! (or anyone that knows the answers ... ;o))
Two things:
1) Where the heck did the number of people we have in circles go?!! (it's not anywhere I can find on the "Your circles" page where it used to be.) Yes, I know there are workarounds to finding it (temporarily allowing all my circles being seen on my profile, extensions, etc.) but I don't want a workaround, I want to see them at a glance ... this data used to be available easily before the update. It's not in any of the dropdowns; is there something I am missing? (I'm going to do a big circle add soon for the hunt and want to make sure I won't go overlimit.)
2) We still have the option to "save this search", but where did the option to view them go? They used to show up in the right side panel of the "what's hot" stream, but there ... more »

Get Lucky & Loose Yourself to Dance on the Daft Train...
This image is a ode to the two tunes on the album Random Access Memories that I currently am playing over and over again and that I simply can not listen to without grooving on down. Even better than listening to the music, I like to watch it dubbed onto old episodes of Soul Train, an American TV show I didn't even know existed until a couple of weeks ago, but which now I can't get enough of: daft train and Daft Punk - Lose Yourself To Dance

This is dedicated to all of the women who have at one time or another doubted themselves, sold themselves short, let the desire for perfection get in the way, wanted to pack up their toys and go home at the first bump in the road. It's about embracing who you are and accepting the fact that mistakes will be made, people will doubt you and in the end it is those things that will make you better and stronger.
I was invited to join this project a few years ago where you had to take a self portrait with these words integrated. It was hard for me but also a great process. Is anyone else having trouble with uploading photos? I keep getting this message when I try to add an image to an album: "Sorry! We could not import your photos. Please try again later." But when I refresh the album page, the image is there after I get the message, I just can't share it immediately. I don't want to "reshare" it, I want to post my text immediately so I don't have that image in the "Photos from posts" album and lose the option to have any interaction for my original upload.
Help or advice, anyone?

Germany Road Trip // Hamburg 03 - Speicherstadt again
and here we go: The last image from this trip. After that we left Hamburg and drove back home.
The Photo Road Trip
We did about 2500km in 5 1/2 days. I'll post some impressions within the next days and weeks.
So you might be able to get a virtual trip as well. ;-) You can expect some b&w long exposures, architecture, seascapes, nightshots and might be able to see some varieties of German Landscapes.
We started in Tirol / Austria and stopped in Nürnberg - Berlin - drove along the Baltic Sea coast and stopped in Hamburg.

PRAIA PEQUENA, SINTRA, PORTUGAL
This one was shot at Praia Pequena, in Sintra, Portugal. This is my favorite beach for surfing, in the summer. Surf is my other passion, next to photography. Any suggestions of great BW Landscape photographers around here?

Yellow, yellow everywhere!
Last week, I finally gathered enough will to extract myself from our comfortable sofa. I jumped into my car and drove toward an area where I expected to find some rapeseed fields.
I only could enjoy 2 hours, but couldn't get rid of those wearisome speed limits! So, I was lucky I could find a spot where no human presence was observable. I parked my car on the road side, avoiding ditches, and unpacked my camera and tripod. With the ambient luminosity, I could have let the tripod in the car. At 1/2000s, there is much less risk of getting a blurry image than at 1/20s ;)
Ultimately, I just shot a couple of photos in this field, because I wasn't that satisfied with the overall light at this time. So, it ended up quite untimely. Hopefully, a quarter of an hour after, I found another... more »

It's thursday? Oh dear, where does the week go. I know I've been working too hard and alone when I start telling my cat to shut up - and when I think it's monday when it's thursday...

Taken in the Philippines on the island of Palawan. Was tricky to get the boat sharp but the waves soft, as it was rolling around a bit on the shore, but this one looks alright to me. I swear, I barely touched the saturation levels.
